Simply an amazing dinner. Great service. Great food. Love the ambiance. We will be back ASAP. Thank you !!!
This is the best restaurant in San Francisco!!!!!!!!! Probably my 20th time here and the staff and food is amazing always!
This place is almost exclusively locals from the Castro to the Haight and french people who live in or are visiting SF. It's not California French....it's French. Enjoy!
This neighborhood gem was simply wonderful. French bistro food at its best. We will come back many times again
La verdadera comida francesa!
We love this restaurant for excellent food and great service. However, the restaurant is a small space and over packed with dinner tables and it’s very crowded with almost no privacy since the next table is within one feet or less from our table. It’s difficult to even walk inside the restaurant without bumping into a table or a chair. It’s not possible to have a good romantic dinner without listening to people in the next table with their offensive political views. The restaurant should consider not having so many tables cramped in such a small space
Once again, outstanding all around! Excellent service/food/wine.
A grand experience in fine french bistro dining. We ate almost everything on the menu, and shared most of that. Every dish was divine.
Loved it! Thanks for a great dining experience
Intimate setting, delicious meal. Would highly recommend
Our dinner at l'Ardoise bistro was just perfect for us! Parked car very close on street parking. Just two of us dining for a birthday din-din.
Seated at a very nice table, with pleasant view across the dining room. With seemed like a fairly busy evening, though restaurant was pleasantly rather quiet-ish.
Once we ordered we relaxed and soon our appetizers arrived and we commenced - butter lettuce for me, and ravioli filled with white meat seafood, in a broth. Both were very satisfying, delicious. Paring our wine, a Sancerre, white, chilled just right.
Entrees came only when both of us finished first course...no rush. We ordered the white fish, rather "floating" on a quantity of risotto, so I never ran out to finish with my fish entrée. Our fish was vey tender, being just underdone to perfection...pleasant fish based broth adding just enough "wet" to let flavors marry, as I gladly loosened another section of the fish...ready to devour. Risotto was just right, with little firmness, adding texture to accompany the fish. Um um.
Always feeling welcomed by staff, the selection of wine, port, even Amaro for after dinner.
Try l"Ardoise - busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, guests fo come in after 9:00 PM to partake of their meal at the small bar...if I close my eyes and dream, sorta like being in Paris' Left Bank, though our smalldog wasn't nearby, waiting for a tender morsel....we give l' Ardoise a recommended Yes... !
Delicious food, great service.
Overall, it's an amazing spot and the food is delicious. I will say that the restaurant is quite cozy so it felt like we were sitting elbow to elbow with our neighbors, but it's laid back so it was ok. The chocolate fondant cake is also delicious, highly recommend!
tres bien - lovely evening dinner date spot. All French staff, extensive wine list, I had the filet mignon and my partner had the duck confit - French diner approved!
This restaurant is Exceptional in every way, from the time you step into the restaurant you are greeted right away and you are seated on time, always. The food is so deliciously prepared and the service is amazing, they pay attention to everything along the way from what you liked before on another visit to noticing your napkin falling on the ground and replacing it to just an overall warm and friendly and exceptional establishment. I eat out a lot and I know when I have found a gem, shhhhh don't tell anyone!
As always thank you kindly! Mona
L'Ardoise is a well hidden little bistro. I'd say that mostly locals dine there. The ambience is low key and warm, the staff always friendly and attentive. The food is wonderful in a homey, traditional manner, it doesn't try to overreach. The chef knows what he's doing. I had a perfect, melts in your mouth pork tenderloin. I'd stick with the mashed potatoes that it come with, rather than substituting the potatoes Landaises, which were dry and not as good as a potato gratin. The apple tart is perfect. Prices are reasonable and inoffensive, unlike so many "hip" and Instagrammable places.
Excellent, professional on point service, just like in France. The food is authentic French. The crowd is sophisticated and a bit older than millennials (which is a plus). Great value for the money.
Loved the Place! The best dessert ever! Just a bit of a cab ride.
The best little French Bistro this side of Paris! Food, service, and ambiance are outstanding. The entrees are memorably well prepared and presented, especially the Coq au Vin. But the Pommes Landaises? Exquisite!
As usual, we were treated well and had a fantastic dinner. This is the best French restaurant in the Bay area. We have gone there for 10 years and the quality stays excellent
Outstanding service, delicious food - creme brulee was amazing.....fab wine list. Have already booked a return reso.
The food was excellent overall, couldn't have improved that in any way. I found the space to be a bit small and not as dim and romantic as I'd have liked but the value was exceptional. Top level French cuisine. Waiter could have been somewhat more helpful and I would have liked a bit more quiet but we were very pleased at the value/ambiance ratio. We will be back for more casual occasions. Good date night place. You're paying for the chefs skill not the decor. We had the duck confit and rack of lamb. Highly recommend both. Did not care for the escargot preparation but just personal taste and it was an interesting sauce. I also did not like the lighting but I believe they were trying to evoke a casual Parisian cafe with outdoor Street lamp lighting. Might be different later in the evening and/or they may dim the lights for mid shift and beyond. Place was very full, glad we had early reservations.
Very nice food excellent
Excellent. I wish i coild remember our waiter's name. A gentleman and very knowledgeable and attentive. We split rack of lamb. I had escargot and girlfriend had goat cheese salad. Salad superb. Escargot not like what i had before. It was not piping hot but good. I ordered Kir cocktail. She had sancerre.both great choices. Can't wait to go back!!!!!
Celebrating 3 months since open heart surgery, his first restaurant choice was L’Ardoise. The 4 of us had an excellent evening. Warm welcome, comfortable seating, and a wonderful menu, with specials on blackboards. Great soup, amazing snails, delicious duck, fabulous cod special, and superb wines. Heavenly desserts. It’s a bistro, so it’s busy and buzzy.
Thanks to the staff for an unforgettable experience.
Came here for my birthday dinner. Overall is good service and plus delicious food. Duck confit is recommended. Perfect texture. Taste like having duck confit in Paris. Good chef!!!
Great food and attentive service. Shrimp ravioli was delicious. The menu is somewhat limited but more options than other French restaurants in SF. Also had the hanger steak and rock cod. Both were very good. Good wine list at reasonable price levels. Will come back.
Excellent dinner. Had escargot and cauliflower soup for starters, duck confit for main and a chocolate tart for dessert. Paired with a 2018 Sancerre. Service food and ambiance excellent. Only get to San Francisco once per year and always try to book a table at L’Ardoise. Well worth it. Highly revommended
I couldn’t imagine better food or service.
As usual, a stellar meal. From the warm and welcoming greeting to the perfect blend of professional service, a balance of care, concern and respect for your desires without being intrusive or overbearing.
The food is all-star as well. Tonight we began with an endive salad tossed with bits of Roquefort and walnuts. Then escargot cupped in a potato with a green sauce that had essence of parsley and garlic. The entrees followed with Alaskan Halibut over a creamy risotto with a ring of a lobster reduction sauce. Ann had the seafood cassoulet, served over mashed potatoes. The finale has been the Floating Island meringue with strawberries and a cream anglaise to rest on lately A glass of Viognier, and a surprise offering of a desert wine finished the night off perfectly. We feel reinvigorated and relaxed. Just the way it should be.
Well thought out tastes and delicious sauces.
Great service, above and beyond. The food never disappoints. Highly recommended!
It’s our second time coming here in and we absolutely love it. We are from Sacramento and we definitely will recommend this place hands down. Their service is wonderful from the moment you get there to the moment you leave. Their food is outstanding, so much flavor.
It was a great neighborhood dining experience
We had a great time here. The best French food in San Francisco.
Perfect neighborhood French spot. The filet mignon was one of the best I’ve had!
Excellent comfort food and warm welcoming service. Don’t forget to try the ravioli as a starter! I will go back.
We always love l'ardoise
Excellent food, excellent service. Made another reservation to go back already!
