L'Appart Resto Ratings and Reviews
I've given this restaurant FIVE second chances, because I like the owner and I want him to do well. I've been going since its inception, several years ago.
But he's not watching the kitchen. A few days ago I went & ordered the special: duck breast with chestnuts & foie gras, with cabbage & mushrooms. The duck was stone cold, barely any chestnuts and certainly no detectable foie gras. Not much cabbage - mostly apples.
The last five times I've been, with four of us, at least one meal comes later than the other 3, and there's something not right with one of the entrees (a fish appetizer with barely detectable fish, meat not cooked as ordered...). The chef is cheap and Olivier is not paying attention to the kitchen.
We had the prix fix Thanksgiving menu which started with the beef cheeks confit. This is a rich, delicious beef in sauce on toast, and it is a wonderful and delicious treat! They should keep that on the menu year round!
Second course was Turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. This was moist and delicious turkey, and the combination was great. Nice sized portion too.
The chocolate dessert was very satisfying, and the service was good. The heated outdoor area was perfect, very charming and not noisy at all. The total price was reasonable.
This is a solid choice in a neighborhood, family restaurant. I think you will like it!
This is a great restaurant for French country meals. My husband is notoriously picky about trying new foods. At L'Appart Resto the chef's skill, thorough menu descriptions & relaxed atmosphere has him trying items I've never seen him eat before. Plus, when the weather is warm, the patio has several dog-friendly tables.
I've reviewed L'Apart many times, we always have a great meal here. So glad that fall is here and Cassoulet is back on the menu. Usually hubs and I split it and another entree. This time he informed me that he wasn't going to share, I'd have to get my own. I'm glad I did! L'Appart has downsized the the portion size (not a bad thing) but the flavors remain the same, absolutely wonderful.
We went for our anniversary and had a great time. The food was very good. I ordered stuffed mini pumpkins because I'd never seen that on a menu and it so flavorful, and such a cute presentation! I had started with the creamy cauliflower soup, and they put good bread on the table, so I was stuffed by the end. My husband's tagliatelles au lapin was also delicious. Good wine choices and courteous staff.
The food was incredible...such attention to detail on the subtle blending of flavors. I would definitely go back to try more. It was so nice not to have to drive into the City to find cuisine at this level. No hassle with parking, and the restaurant wasn't at all crowded. It made for a relaxing and enjoyable evening.
The evening was pleasant so we ate on the patio starting with sharing the endive & blue cheese salad, followed by mussels & the hanger steak cooked to perfection with Wonderful french fries. Ice tea & sparkling pinot noir were our drinks of choice during our meal. We finished with 2 decaf coffees & a wonderful warm chocolate cake stuffed with a raspberry ganache served with whipped cream. We certainly did consider their prix fix 3 course menu for $35 which was a bargain. Would love to return soon.
When we arrived the fire alarm was on. The staff we calm as it was an accidental pull of the alarm. We took a walk around San Anselmo for 10 min while the fire dept disabled the alarm. Upon returning the staff sat us down and started the ordering process though they had no computers to take the orders. Food was not delayed and the staff had things under control. Hanger steak and scallops were fantastic. A real test of a restaurant is to measure what they do when things go wrong and this staff did right.
Having stumbled on this little gem last year, L'Appart has become one of our favourite restaurants in Marin. Sinfully good appetizers like the seafood cassoulet, squash blossoms, and fresh salads are perfectly sized and prepared, and lead you into some fantastic main courses. If the rabbit tagliatelle is on the menu, GET IT! The hangar steak frites with shallot gastrique, plenty of fresh seasonal seafood... and perfect moules frites.
We always love L'Appart Resto when we visit Marin County. Their wine list is reasonably priced with local and French wines. The menu changes based on local food availability. We like to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the weather. We recently enjoyed the lobster risotto w/chanterelle mushrooms and fresh peas, seared ahi tuna, Petaluma chicken, and Le burger. We always order the mussels avec frites et aioli for an appetizer. The service is always attentive, but at an easy pace. Just a great place to enjoy local food prepared elegantly with a French flair.
The last few times we've eaten here the food and service have been poor, which is a shame since the outside seating is wonderful. Both my wife's and my food was overcooked and cold. If it wasn't the first time we'd try it again. We know the owners of this restaurant have a couple of other cafes in Sausalito which have great food, but we've crossed this one off our list.
Sitting outside on a sunny day is a real bonus and I like the fact that there is a low wall between the restaurant and the sidewalk. The food is delicious and beautifully presented on the plate. Service is good. I hosted four of us and the price was quite fair for us all.
We've eaten here several times before and always find it to be charming, fun, excellent food with a varied menu, and good for parties of two to six. On this last visit, everyone just wanted to order their fantastic cheeseburger (French bistro style) with fries. Unfortunately, our food was delivered a little later than it should have been and had obviously been "sitting" waiting for pick-up. This was the first time I've ever had the slightest problem with service or "food temperature" at L'Appart, so am willing to overlook it, given the full house they had on this warm Friday evening. We dined outside on the patio, which was lovely and very comfortable. We started off with our usual order of steamed mussels which come in the most delicious sauce that you wind up eating like soup when all the shells and meat are gone! A real treat at $15. We also brought our own bottle of wine and gladly paid the $20 corkage fee, although their wine list is also very nice. Our out-of-town guests (first-timers) really liked the entire experience, which we topped off by strolling down San Anselmo Ave. window shopping at then visiting George Lucas' Imagination Park (a block away) where we took photos with the statue of Indiana Jones. Lovely night featuring great food.
L'Appart's kitchen does a great job on everything!
We had never been before, we are really pleased of our discovery.
Squash blossoms were fantastic, Creoles mussels are so interesting and tasty, and the gnocchi dish is phenomenal.
They have a nice wine selection by the glass, not too expensive and pretty eclectic.
The highs: seared albacore tuna was flavorful; beet soup was a delightful surprise of flavors with a subtle garlicky finish; casual atmosphere.
The lows: Carmel flan came out with no sweetness or flavor whatsoever, the "Carmel sauce" tasted like bark... Someone was asleep in the kitchen; charged for a bottle of wine, when I ordered a glass (obviously corrected when I pointed it out); Slow, service ... 15 mins from seating to return to take our order ... 2+ hours for a prix fixe meal. Nice not to be rushed, but nice to leave when you want, too.
We had a delicious dinner last week at L'Appart Resto. We sat at an outside table which was well shielded from any breeze and the direct sun. The kale salad special was wonderful and the stuffed peppers quite good. My husband had the lobster risotto which he devoured. Our server was very attentive and took good care of us. We will definitely be back.
Bastille day was the perfect occasion to discover this French restaurant in San Anselmo!
Their special was great, 1 plate, steak, chicken and ribs! Perfect!
Service was not perfect they were really busy and the server was really nice and attentive.
The scallops dish was yummy, figs and celery purée, really tasty.
Dear Open Table ,
Dinner tonight was a complete disaster !
Distracted and inexperienced. First Bottle of Frank Family Chardonnay served warm.
Second bottle poured without tasting in the same glasses.
Server had no knowledge of real French or Belgian cooking, let alone proper serving etiquette.
Olives: Delicious ! ($8.00)
Tartare de Bouef: Watery ( as if frozen ) terrible seasoning ( I think missing most of those ingredients listed on the menu) and toasts so over cooked they could break a tooth.
Salade de Homard: Tiny lobster bits that were bitter and deserving of a fast food taco. No seasoning and a bland dressing, resulting in a nothing salad.
Noix de Saint Jaques: The Coulis of corn was wonderful. My wife is shy, but she said the Scallops she made were so much better. Scallops were bitter, the scallions inedible. We never understood what the big smear of something was.
Moules Martinieres: These are served better from most road side stand in Europe. There was nothing even remotely pleasing. Poor quality mussels, poor seasoning, it tasted like fishy dishwater.
Dessert (to Go ) : We were told it would take additional time t wait for the specially baked Tarte Tatin which when we got home was still frozen, in their original freezer containers.
This is my first review and I must say I am really, really beginning to wonder how trustworthy Open Table Reviews can be. You can see that I travel a lot ( much more than you track ) and have been an epicurean my entire life.
