Everything was excellent. Our waiter, Mel, was very attentive, but not disruotive as he kept our glasses full.
Excellent, attentive service. Enticing menu with food tastily prepared. Good jazz background music.
Was told about how awesome this place was and that I needed to go here for my first date night after getting home from an overseas tour. Unfortunately we sat at our table for 15 mins before we finally flagged someone down...after other tables were seated around us and served with drinks. When we finally got the attention of a server they were pleasant, but seemed irritated. During this time we received some drinks, but continued to be ignored or forgotten. After being there for 35mins we finally pulled the plug and decided to go elsewhere. When leaving it seemed to have upset the server we had, but didn’t make a difference in our opinion...thus leaving. I am hoping this was a one off bad experience.
Special was excellent and the service was attentive without being annoying. I particularly enjoyed the jazz music in the dining room. I hope to go back soon.
I have been going to Laporta's Restaurant for over 30 years. It remains one of my favorite restaurants in the DC area. Great food, great service and great music. And it is still run by the Laporta brothers, Phil, Ralph and Doug, and their sister, Mary. Great place.
We love Laportas and it never disappoints. Great special Easter brunch with jazz combo. Couldn’t beat it. Great food service and atmosphere as always. One of our favorites. We were here New Years Eve as well. Great time. The steak special was perfect and my wife’s Chicken Tuscany awesome. Highly recommend to all.
Waiter was very nice
Food was good
Overall had a lovely evening
Great jazz and outstanding food & drinks on a Saturday night. Definitely a must-visit when in Alexandria. Great if you have well-behaved teenagers or with friends!
We had a wonderful birthday dinner for five people. The salads were fresh and tasty as was the asparagus starter. My special fish entree for the evening was excellent and two of our diners that had the salmon pasta were very pleased as well. Try to save room for some of the lovely homemade desserts, as the carrot cake, apple cobbler and lemon tart are excellent.
The service while very good, was not quiet up to the usual very high standard that we are used to a Laportas, as I believe our server was new.
The jazz trio was a very nice touch.
We took advantage of the Monday special which gave us 2 entrees and a bottle of wine for 29.95. Both the ravioli and the chicken and sausage over pasta were delicious. The house salad was very fresh and tasty. The mocha cheesecake was to die for.
Our server, Frankie, was very congenial and did his job well.
EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!!!!!!! THE SERVICE, FOOD AND ENVIORMENT
Food was good. They had live music when we were there on a Friday night. Old school piano lounge music. They were good and it was nice during dinner. Easy walk from the Embassy Suites in Old Town. Service was slow but he was friendly. Not fancy in anyway but a good meal.
Consistently delicious food and service. Enjoyed our dinner and the music. Celebrated my Brother’s birthday.
LaPorta's is one of my regional dining favorites. I commute from Annapolis to introduce friends visiting from out of town to this very special dining venue. I have NEVER taken a guest who was not "over-the-top" pleased with the food, the venue, the ambiance and especially the nightly live music.
One of our favorite restaurants. We come heard quite often. Love the live jazz every evening. Adds a great ambiance you don’t get at many restaurants. When you include the excellent food, great service, and reasonable prices, it’s a value we find hard to beat.
Nice! Good food, good friendly service. Perfect for our after-church meal with our granddaughter and great granddaughter (8 months). Lovely live music which stopped about 3:00. Downside: They charge $6.00 for a basket of bread. Good for my diet though.
LOVE the complimentary parking!
Reliable restaurant over many years -- very good food and service at a reasonable price. And the live music is always a real plus!
Great food and service. The ambience is very intimate and comfy
Excellent restaurant - the service was impeccable and the food fantastic! A jazz trio started playing around 7:00 p.m. Not terribly loud -we were right in front of them and still managed to have a conversation without shouting. Weird issue - apparently there's free parking in the back, with no signage to tell you where it is or how to get there. Also, I did not see any way to get into the restaurant without climbing steps - only 4 of them, but still. Otherwise, great experience! We will be back!
Our power was out at home, so we had to book a hotel and this restaurant was the closest one with a kids menu. We went there with our two toddlers and had a great time. We were blown away by the customer service and food quality.
I've been to this restaurant before for dinner and it was great, the food and service very good, and the music/piano player very entertaining. This time we went on a night for a two dinners for $29 and a bottle of wine. It was okay, not too much food, but as expected for the price. However, I would recommend this restaurant, I has a lovely atmosphere. Our waiter Robert was fantastic, super helpful and with a great sense of humor.
LaPortas does such a great job in their friendly, attentive service, and always coming up with a few very creative specials, to supplement an already fabulous and diverse menu! My favorite "go to" for business lunch, and would be for dinner, if I only lived closer!
My party of six and I loved our first visit to Laporta! Drinks and food were delicious and we will be back. Great server on Saturday night and wonderful jazz trio! We had brunch the next day, Sunday, and all was just as great, but coffee was extremely bitter :( The lovely sever said they'd changed coffee brands and I hope they switch back to the previous coffee. Very satisfied.
The food was incredible. Chef Doug worked his magic in the kitchen and the service was incredible. The server knew the menu and wine list and took great care of us. We never had an empty glass and whenever we needed something, they were right there to help. Definitely coming back!
Was seated between two tables with louder conversations, hostess noted us looking at more secluded table and immediately offered us to move, we gladly accepted, server was very attentive and came outside after us with my forgotten glasses case.
LaPorta's had good food, good music, and was overall a great experience. My wife and I came here for our first wedding anniversary and loved the music, our server Miana was wonderful, and the Monday/Tuesday deal (even though we didn't get it) can't be beat! Can't recommend it highly enough.
Got the special and food wasn’t great but not horrible. Live piano was nice. Service was mediocre.
Had yellow fin tuna which was chefs special. Very good. Nice traditional jazz live music for ambiance. Seafood pasta was also excellent.
Nice atmosphere, great food!
The live jazz is a plus. Make sure you try the onion tart appetizer. I was pleasantly surprised.
The ambiance is extremely dated without being hip. On a Saturday night at 8, there's an old man playing cello, another old man playing piano, and a middle-aged man crooning old-man classics like "Lady from Ipanema." Yet, they don't play up the oldster theme very well. The cocktail menu, which is small, does not contain a single classic. Instead, there are poorly-thought-out and poorly-made variants on the Old Fashioned, Manhattan, margarita, etc. The service is slow. The food is ordinary. The wine is by-the-glass and not very good. The pricing isn't over-the-top and, if you happen to be staying at that hotel or can't get the mile or so to the walkable part of Old Town for some reason, it's not a terrible experience. But, with so many great options so close, there's no other good reason to eat at Laporta's.
We love this restaurant and always go when we’re in town. We’ve introduced many friends to it and they are always pleased with the food, the service, and the live music which still permits conversation.
One of our favorite restaurants in Alexandria. We love the food, the service and the live music.
We were there for Valentines day they had a jazz band that was really good ]. Our seating was a little close to the band so it was hard to talk and enjoy the food. The food was good. I had the hanger steak and macaroni and cheese very tasty. Overall great time and ambiance.
Great setting
Excellent atmosphere for brunch meal with great piano playing in the background. Service and decorum superb. Wait staff was very friendly and accommodating when we had to postpone our reservation for an hour. I recommend LaPorta as a great spot for casual and evening dining.
Enjoyed a nice dinner with friends who I see once per year; the venue was very nice provided a menu varied enough and the service was attentive. I was concerned about the jazz duo being located in the dining room, but it was not an issue from a noise perspective and provided a delightful ambiance. I am not a desert person, but recommend not missing one of the homemade creations. I was impressed by the few bites I tried. Also the salad entrees are large.
We went there the Saturday before Valentine's day and loved the Live Jazz music. We sat right next to the band and they were the perfect volume. Sangria was excellent as was the food. Will make a trip there again soon.
LaPorta's has become one of my new favorite places to eat. I love listening to the jazz music on Saturday evenings. The food is always terrific. I highly recommend this restaurant.
What a great evening!
This was our first time and will be back again
