Laporta's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Went there while visiting the National Harbor for my Birthday- The live music was the reason I went and it did not disappoint. There were several people with Birthday's and the singer did a great job getting to everyone to make them feel special. The food was just OK- I had lobster soup was just OK salad was fine, my friend has pasta Laporta it was just OK. I had the lemon tart for dessert and it was THE BEST I have ever had, will return just to try another dessert.
Laportas is one of my favorite places for happy hour. But on this occasion I went there for Thanksgiving dinner. The food was good, but not outstanding. And I thought the price of $60 a plate which included dessert was way too high. Dessert was included in the price, there were several choices, and my pecan pumpkin cheesecake was fantastic. We were seated in the bar area, albeit with a tablecloth, but still not as nice as had we’ve been seated in the dining room. We did make reservations for this event and not all tables were full in the dining room. Oddly enough, Laportas charges for the bread basket. This item is usually included at almost every other restaurant I’ve ever been to. Of course the outstanding feature for Laportas is is the free parking garage behind it—A real treat in old town Alexandria.
My GF and I were visiting DC for the weekend from Philly and staying at a hotel in Pentagon City. LaPorta's hit our radar when looking for a local place to dine on Saturday night. We enjoyed our food and thought the prices were very reasonable and the portion sizes just right. Our table was in a good location but we both said afterwards that we wished they dimmed the lights lower the whole time like they did when the 3 piece jazz band started. We felt like we were under a spotlight with the brighter lights. Our server was pleasant but didn't seem that informed about the menu. After dinner, we walked around town to enjoy the beauty of Alexandria. Overall, this was an enjoyable meal and we will definitely consider dining here again when our travels bring us back to the DC area.
This restaurant is very conducive to relaxation. Four of the 6 in our party had the French toast and found it very delicious and filling! I had the wonderful Mesclun chicken salad; it was loaded with dates which made it even better. The 6th person enjoyed her dish as much as the rest of us did ours.
Service was excellent and not at all obtrusive. Water glasses and coffee cups were kept full almost without our noticing it.
The best part was the lemon tarts which are made using the late Mrs. LaPorta's recipe. They remind me of my grandmother's!
My spouse and I first came to LaPorta's in 1985 shortly after it opened. The decor is always fresh and the food excellent.
We LOVED our food (both had the lobster bisque with a side of fettuccine), and appreciated how attentive our wait staff was despite a very busy evening.
That said: we sat outdoors, and there were a LOT of cobwebs next to our table, which is already pretty gross, but then we noticed the giant honkin' spider. That wasn't so cool.
La Parota's is one of the best kept secrets in Old Town. Nowhere else in town can you enjoy a great meal, listen to live music and still enjoy a private conversation with your dinning companion. I have never been disappointed by the food. The servers are friendly, know their menu, and give solid recommendations. The Satin Doll trio that plays at 7pm on Friday evening offers a great selection of 'torch' songs that give the restaurant a romantic flare. Makes you wish there was a small dance floor so you could dance cheek to cheek. Parking is easy and free. Strongly recommend that you give is a try!
Was not satisfied with my visit. Tuesday is Wine Tuesday, we got there at 4:30 and we were told it does not start until 5:30. Nowhere on the listing does it show a time. Also, we had a coupon for buy one dinner get one free on the patio, that didn't start until 5:30 also. It was not stated anywhere.
We were a group of six, four from out of town. Found on Open Table while looking for an Alexandria restaurant with a menu balanced between seafood and non-seafood because one person had seafood allergy. Noticed from reviews there was live jazz and thought there might be a little ambiance-and there was! Food was delicious, well presented and professionally served. The place looks pretty ordinary perhaps even Spartan. Don't let the looks fool you. This is a top-notch restaurant. It is right next to the residence inn. You won't be disappointed.
The waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food (special of the day was swordfish and the cod) were fantastic. (Note - My mother got the cod - it would have been much too sweet for me.) The wine was good. The music was wonderful and didn't keep us from being able to have a conversation. My only complaint is that the very delicious tirimisu was outrageously expensive (nearly $12!!!) It wasn't on a menu, so we didn't see the price. Other than that, a wonderful experience. I'll certainly go again, but next time I'll skip the dessert.
Excellent as always. We enjoy Laportas and they have never disappointed us. The salmon and linguine was awesome and my wife's shrimp with mushrooms encroute was incredible. And as always Margaret's desserts are to die for save room. Then the jazz combo adds to the overall 5 star evening. Thank you Laportas. Highly recommend to all.
