Chopped mushrooms sauted in herbed lemon cream served with toasted buttered rounds
3 cheese stuffed ravioli plated over marinara with sauteed roma tomatoes, fresh oyster mushrooms and button mushrooms
great local restaurant. Loved the live music on Saturday night!
Laporta’s Restaurant is always a wonderful experience.
The food is consistently and expertly prepared.
The entertainment, in this case Jazz vocalist Sharon Clark accompanied by Vince Evans on keys and Eric Glaser on bass, was perfection!
Just an overall lovely evening!
Friday night “Satin Doll Trio” smooth jazz while dining really makes the experience perfect. The food and service are excellent, too. Can’t go wrong any night of the week at Laporta’s.
Excellent special on Monday night. Staff was attentive, the food was incredible, and the Jazz very good as well.
Food was good, entertainment was great; however, Martini at $17 was outrageous -- higher than most DC/NY Prices.
A good experience with caveats. Online food--and especially wine menus bear no semblance to reality. To avoid the appearance of deception, these menus need to be either updated or eliminated. Friday night singer arrived an hour late, which, we were told, happens regularly. Music was pleasant but the crowd too chatty to make it an enjoyable events. Main entrees were average; desserts exceptional. Service was excellent.
The only question I have is that when I made the reservation I was asked if it was a birthday, which I answered yes. Why was the question asked if there was no recognition for my wife's birthday?
Love Laporta's Restaurant. The food is excellent and the beverage selection is great, particularly the specialty cocktails. Met with friends for an early dinner on Sunday night. The jazz trio began playing about midway through our meal and they were quite enjoyable. The rule of thumb at Laporta's is to always save room for dessert which is made fresh daily. You must try the Carrot cake which is served warm and like nothing you've ever had before. This trip, we tried the special dessert which was a chocolate cake extravaganza served with coffee ice cream. So delicious. Service was very good and we will return soon.
Our food was delicious! Our server was very attentive.
Wonderful place next to our hotel. Great food, great service from Franki, and fun live music. They pride themselves in many years of good dining and well deserved. We will definitely be back with friends even though it’s not on the main stop.
Wonderful ambiance with talented musicians playing live in the background, but not so loud you have to shout to be heard. Delicious food and great service!
Always wonderful food and fabulous music! We love Laporta’s!
The food was very delicious, made with the freshest ingredients and cooked to order. We went for Valentine's Day dinner and the ambience was perfect with live jazz music. The service was excellent an our waiter was very attentive and helpful in making food suggestions.
Run by the LaPorta family for over 20 years, this establishment never ceases to provide the finest in dining. The menu always delights and varies often.
Service is also great as is the ambiance - especially with the nightly jazz ensembles.
Can't ask for more.
Pros: Food was excellent. Ambiance and live music was outstanding.
Cons: Service was sub par. Food temperature was right on the line of it being sent back. Too expensive for portion size.
Restaurant was very nice, better than I expected! I went for Valentine's Day dinner the ambiance was beautiful and the live music was amazing. I would definitely recommend this spot, and would eat there again.
As always, the food and ambiance were phenomenal. We were there on Valentine’s day. Our waiter, Luis I think he’s called was horrible and unattentive. Minus Luis, we will definitely be back.
It was Valentine’s Day so I know it was busy for the server. But he was definitely kind of all over the place and it took him a while to being our leftovers back after he boxed them. I wanted to have them the next day and it was the wrong food. I was pretty bummed because it was an expensive meal too.
Great place-- Mon/Tues is a great deal with double entree and some wine! We were early - before music, but a nice quiet place. Thanks!
I went there after looking up reviews online. I was very disappointed. I ordered a charcuterie and cheese plate. It ended up costing me around $20 and the plate came with 4 pieces of salami, 2 pieces of coppa (delicious), 3 very thin slices of cheese, and relish and jams, most of which were useless (I have no interest in eating a pickled hot pepper with mild cheese, or olives, or orange marmelade). Then, I ordered the wild mushroom and spinach pasta. The sauces was simple olive oil but it didn't have much of a taste at all. The veggies were very good, but the penne pasta didn't have much of a taste. I don't think the pasta was cooked with the veggies, so the flavors didn't blend. I had to ask for a basket of bread, the meal didn't automatically come with it. The bread I was served wasn't toasted nor warm, it was just cold sliced bread. The whole experience was very underwhelming and the check was way expensive. My dining companion ordered ravioli, and was served four pieces of ravioli. Service was very good though.
We ordered pork belly, Virginia trout, stuffed chicken, and chocolate mousse cake with coffee. All tasted amazing! Waiter was polite and friendly. Love jazz trio was enjoyable.
LaPorta’s delivers consistently excellent food in a lovely atmosphere! The chef even prepared a dish that was not on the menu! Lovely place!
Lovely food and elegant service. Curated wine list. High quality, serious live jazz trio performs at an intimate ambient volume to accompany your meal and conversation like old Bradley's in Manhattan, circa 1987. Dining room has a warm and mellow grand piano. Great location in a highly walkable town that sparkles in opulence each evening with tasteful lighting everywhere.
We decided to try Laporta's during restaurant week. The options for the entree & dessert were impressive. However, three of us ordered the halibut, but they had only 1 filet left. REALLY? We replaced it with salmon with much disappointment.
There was a nice jazz trio playing which we enjoyed. However, the restaurant had their piped in music playing while the trio was playing. It took 3 different individuals to correct that issue. The bartender did not know how to make two of the requested drinks. One was a Rob Roy. A good restaurant will not clear plates while others at the table have finished that course. That did not occur. At least, ask if it is OK to clear the plates. This was our first time at Laporta & our last.
Service was slow. Food not prepared as requested. Broccoli and asparagus had no flavor. Steak was tough. Carrot cake was delicious.
The food was less than average. The service was inattentive. Was very disappointed. Will not be back
The Creamy Potato & Bacon soup was amazing and so too was the Chocolate Godiva Mousse cake. The roast pepper fritata was a let down as it was just an omelette and not really a fritata. Overall, food was tasty.
Laporta's is our Go-To Place in Alexandria for a good menu; well-prepared Italian food; reasonable prices for what you get; attentive and friendly service; and especially, very enjoyable music from a good, revolving cast of local players and singers. Highly recommended!
Great place for a date night out. Food was very good for the price and music was great!!!
The deserts were the star here, right next to the excellent and attentive service. Some dishes fell flat, like the mushy Schnitzel, paired with an overly acidic tomato mess. The filet was spot on, as was the lobster bisque. We didn’t want to be so close to the live music, and the host was able to accommodate us with an excellent table in the lounge. We’d come back for desert and drinks, but might need to research our entree options for the downtown DC prices here. Restaurant week menu was a good value.
The halibut was delicious. Chickenevolotine was also very good. It’s a bit on the pricey side but good for a special occasion
When we are in the Alexandria/Old Town area, Laporta's is always on our list! This time we happened to hit Restaurant Week and it was truly amazing. Where many restaurants have a special RW menu, we were told to pick our entrée right off the menu as well as the salad/soup and the dessert! We all got something different in all three categories and we all were convinced ours was the best! The Pecan pie was to die for! I highly recommend this be one of your go to restaurants!
Great music! Great food! Good ambience!
The meal was excellent, the service was attentive, and it was a relaxed experience. I would definitely recommend LaPortas and will return.
If you only had time for one Restaurant Week lunch, Laporta's should be your choice. The best value in town. Great food and service.
Our Ladies Luncheon out day was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and our waitress was very attentive. We had a great time.
Monday & Tuesday night special for two for $35 is a great deal, and it includes a bottle of house wine (we splurged for a half-price bottle from the wine list).
Service was very nice, although the food from the Monday/Tuesday specials menu was average. The regular menu looked better. We'll give that a try the next time we visit.
Appreciate all the efforts Ralph Laporta and staff made to accommodate our group of 6 with varied seating and culinary requirements during busy restaurant week. Ian was personable and a terrific server [give this guy a raise! :) ] He explained all the (many!) options available, made great suggestions, was attentive without being intrusive and merited high praise from the hosts. Laporta's Monday night "2 Entrees + a bottle of house wine" list is a bargain and the a la carte menu has enough choices to satisfy even the pickiest eater.
Hostess had zero personality. Live jazz music was very nice, but the rest of the dinning room’s ambiance was not nothing special and somewhat cold. The server was just fine. The food was underwhelming and/or mediocre at best - rather overpriced too.
The restaurant’s parking was unclear: free parking at the parking garage next door on the weekends, or only street parking?
One of the best meals I have had in old town. The steak was cooked to perfection and the flavor was outstanding. Even the broccoli as a side was superb. The wine is a bit pricey. Service was great, even refilled our wine glasses when they got low.
