Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa Ratings and Reviews
Honestly I was so looking forward to my lunch at Langdon Hall but was very disappointed. I found that the menu did not accurately describe the dish. I had smoked salmon appetizer and was expecting thin slices but got a (slightly fishy) slab. Pork for main course and was expecting tenderloin but got a tough fatty "steak". Dessert ordered apple pie concoction but is was NOTHING like apple pie and the custardy part was not very appetizing. My companion however ordered differently and was very pleased with her meal (veal tartare, beef rib which looked and smelled delcious and chocolate hazelnut eclaire which also looked excellent). The ambiance is lovely and the service excellent. Prices are very expensive.
We go to dine in Langdon Hall on special occasions, celebrations, meeting friends, etc., as it is not very far drive for us. This time we dined over lunch on Tuesday. The place was quiet and we were served in the smaller dining hall. Thus it stayed charming and intimate. Food was good, as always. Service was impeccable. We also liked the selection of backgrounds music, although it could have been tuned down.
We had Sunday brunch to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. Everything was really wonderful: the food, the service, the ambiance. And we will definitely go back. I was, however, disappointed by the $40 charged for my picky two-year-old grandaughter's meal. Maybe for children that young, the restaurant could provide a complimentary meal. It just spoiled the day a bit.
Overall, an outstanding experience and worth the trip from Toronto, on occasion. I’d call it one of the top restaurants in Southern Ontario. We opted for the tasting menu to make the most of the trip and experience the best of what the kitchen had to offer. Portions were appropriate for the length of the meal. Each course was outstanding, with the caviar particularly memorable. Only shortcoming was the length of the meal which took about 4.5hrs, and maybe to-be-expected for the tasting menu but we were not anticipating that length. Otherwise: 5-star all the way.
We went for a New Year’s Eve brunch.
The food was ok, not excellent as we were expecting. It’s disappointing considering you’re paying $72/person. The whiskey pudding - I do not recommend. The gnocchetti main dish - is mediocre.
I think LH should include coffee & tea in their brunch menu price.
The service was great.
I’ve had better brunches and paid far less. I don’t think the meal was worth the $$$ price, but perhaps you’re paying for the ambience.
What started out as a problem became an example of great customer service. I booked through OpenTable for 2 p.m. which was within the time for the Afternoon Tea service, however the reservation went through for a lunch reservation. When my friend and I arrived, we were told that the hostess would have to check to see if there was room for us for Afternoon Tea. After checking with the staff and the chef, they made space for us in the lovely, light-filled room where we enjoyed a most delicious assortment of food and some of the finest teas available. We were quite impressed with the fine service we received.
Perhaps the reservation system could be updated to allow for the choice of sfternoon tea when applicable.
We celebrated a friend’s 80th birthday party there recently. Though there was another very large event going on in another building and a full dining room, we were still treated with such care and attention and my friend, who had never been, said it was the best dining experience in all ways she’d ever had. Everything was so outstanding - just can’t recommend it highly enough! Such a gem - love Langdon.
A friend and I had brunch here. The food was amazing and Langdon Hall is such a beautiful establishment. The service was great but felt a bit robotic. This could be due to the fact that it is fine dining but overall, a great experience. Would certainly recommend.
Lovely grounds. I would recommend a drink in the sun rooms or on the sun porch. Pricey but great food. Limited lunch menu so I would recommend checking it before booking. You may have to call to find out whats on menu as it was not on line when I booked. I found dining room very very formal and cold as opposed to cozy so I liked the sun room and bar areas better. I would suggest the brochure with the trail info to be put on all tables to increase the experience. I would provide more history to guests maybe in the menus or in the wine list as one of the main reason for attending this venue is the the grounds and historical nature of this lovely setting.
A beautiful setting but alas, the food was subpar. The meat dish was tough and the vegetables were overcooked. I was dreaming of the eclair but it was chewy with a bland cream filling. Our server was most pleasant. The problem is in the kitchen. Lovely cocktails.
I have frequented Langdon Hall for the past several years and have always found it excellent. I have hosted many parties and taken many friends for an excellent dining experience.
My recent visit however left me feeling underwhelmed. Service in the dining room was not friendly at all. Always used to be.
The food was cold and portions were very, very small.
I had informed the staff that I was celebrating my brothers 50th birthday. I was expecting a bit more than happy birthday scribbled on a plate for an important milestone such as this.
On a bright note the sommelier was very personable and made the evening from being a complete disaster.
I hope that my next trip will be different as I don't want to see such a previously great establishment fall into mediocrity.
It was our first visit to Langdon Hall and we enjoyed it. The service and atmosphere were great. We're both vegetarian and although vegetarian food is obviously not Langdon Hall's target market, they did have a veggie appetizer and main. The food was good but it didn't really meet our expectations, given the price-point. Overall a nice experience, but likely not something we'd do again.
We enjoyed our lunch very much. The service was exceptional. Unfortunately, one person in our party was very ill a few hours later and through the night after consuming beef tartar followed by salmon and clams. We don't know if it had anything to do with the food but it does make us wonder.
Three ladies enjoyed a birthday lunch in the garden. The food and service were superb. The ability to relax and have a great time together was priceless. We are so lucky to have A world class establishment in our area. Thank you Langdon Hall for your high standards.
Was a great dinner. It cost 255$ including tip for two. They accommodated my gluten allergies and served us complementary prosecco, amuse bouche, and anniversary desert. Great service, offered me a blanket as we were dining outside. It felt like we were at a resort out of town, nice mini get away.
The food at Langdon Hall is incredible and very creative. Most if it comes right from the expansive garden right on the grounds so it's as fresh as it gets and it make a huge difference in the taste. The whole meal is an experience and Chef Jason has created dishes that create so many unique flavours.
