With a passion for family and food the Lujan sisters came together to open Agave Azul Kitchen & Tequila Bar in 2012. Their goal was to bring together a gathering of authentic Mexican home cooking that stuck to their roots. Their family originated from Zacatecas, Mexico and then came to Hughson, California to begin farming. With this heritage came recipes passed down from generation to generation. Food was the center of their life and growing up on a local farm allowed their family to cook at home with food grown on their land. Sandra and Gabby originally had the thought of opening Taqueria El Agave, but it quickly transformed into a full kitchen serving some of their favorite dishes such as pollo con crema y rajas. The unique thing about Agave Azul is their attention and focus to the quality of each of the ingredients that goes into their recipes and their commitment to never sacrificing on quality home grown ingredients.

Just bring in the dining room is the point, a national treasure . The breakfast is good, lots of choices. Hoping when they get the kitchen renovation done, they’ll be able to offer a la carte again, the buffet is very pricey and it would be nice to get a smaller breakfast. Kudos to the wait staff, they were so friendly and always there for a refill of coffee or whatever was needed.

Our rooms were just fine. The quality of the food in the Mountain Room seems to have declined in recent years while prices have climbed. We went to the cafeteria instead on our last day, and only two kiosks were actually operational. In the middle of the afternoon there was a line of people and each family tried to figure out the kiosks so they could order their meals. We paid for soft drinks, but the machine was broken and there was no ice. I called it to the attention of two separate workers, who shrugged and said "Yeah, they haven't worked all day." When I asked if he could tell a supervisor, the first one said "They're not around." The second one said "They aren't going to do anything." The good news: the food tasted fine and the price was reasonable. But we shouldn't have been charged for the non-existent drinks.

Hubby are vacationing in Yosemite area and he found this little gem when searching for a place for us to have dinner. We drove from El Portal to try it out. We were not disappointed at all! The variety of the food was amazing. You would expect the food to be at a 5 star sit down restaurant but this was more of a cafeteria style. It was different but in a really cool and unique way! Would highly recommend!!

Michelin star worthy food at midscale prices - an extraordinary find at this contemporary but charming and characterful French style "chateau" on the edges of Oakhurst. Exemplary service and superb wine list too. Highly recommend as the best food to b easily found near Yosemite.
