Sammie’s is a little taste of old Italy in downtown Austin. It celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by old school, legendary Italian-American restaurants. The menu offers classic dishes in a casual but sophisticated, retro-designed space that is both lively and comfortable, capturing the essence of a night out at your favorite neighborhood joint. The space consists of a central dining room overlooking Shoal Creek and 6th Street, polished wood bar, Mildred’s Room (a private dining/wine room), and wraparound patio dining area. The menu offers riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, and Linguine Vongole; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti.

Food was great, portions were incredibly generous which makes the price worth it. Ambiance was cute and service was good, very European where after they deliver your food they really only come back over when you ask, which is completely fine. It was a bit loud for brunch with the DJ and large parties. But overall my group and I enjoyed our visit and will be back!

We love to dine at J. Carver’s any chance we get. The staff is always so friendly and knowledgeable, the food is FANTASTIC- from start to finish. Some favorites are the escargot, the loaded potato Gnocchi, and the Dover Sole. Upon arriving, we waiting approximately 1-2 minutes to be seated by the friendly hosts, Gina was our server this time and she was fantastic. I will say the time between ordering and receiving our martinis was a little longer than expected, but that was not enough to bring down the rest of our 5 star service.
