Standing high above the city on the 10th floor of the City Club Apartments, at 309 Vine Street; resurrected from the history that has stood here before our time, Shires' Rooftop is inspired by the first amusement resort in this part of the country, Shires' Garden. Though the original Shires' Gardens burned to the ground, "in a most picturesque fire," the legacy that was left behind is everlasting and an integral part of the Queen City's history. The creation of the Matinee Performance, the regal guests Shires' hosted, an unsolved murder and other noteworthy events that took place at the original Shires' Gardens, are an inspiration to our program that we look forward to sharing with you.

The history of McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants began when Bill McCormick purchased Jake's Famous Crawfish Restaurant located in Portland, Oregon, and brought the more than 100-year-old landmark back to life. When asked the secret of how he revitalized a restaurant on the brink of closing, McCormick says, "I like nothing better than being a good host." Part of the managerial talent McCormick tapped was Doug Schmick, a management trainee. The two formed a partnership in 1974, creating Traditional Concepts, a precursor to today's McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants. In 1979, they opened the original McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant in Portland, Oregon. The combination of an open imagination and a respect for tradition are what makes McCormick & Schmick's the classic and successful business that it is today.

As always everything was absolutely perfect. Amiah (I hope I spelled that correctly) was the best host you could possibly ask for.

An outstanding Restaurant Week meal. Every dish was a "buy again" and portions were full-size - not smaller for this bargain meal. The pasta course was a full entree in itself. such that we split one main dish and took the other home - doggie bags are a rarity for us. Service by Pricilla was top notch, and the GM Andrea was a constant presence on the floor checking on us and the other diners.

Food is consistently good as usual. Service was slow overall. Host indicated they were short staffed so we could not sit outside as requested on our reservation. He did seat us by open window.

This is my second visit to The Davidson and it won’t be my last. This time, a group of seven women gathered for a happy hour toast to a friend’s new job with bottles of a delicious cremant. We tried both the fondue and the roasted eggplant and both were outstanding. As others have written, the tableside preparation of the eggplant is entertaining, and the bartender was right to encourage us to scrape up every last bite. I’d reserved a table for four for those who might want dinner and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating when it turned out six decided to stay. Everyone enjoyed their order whether it was a bowl of Palomino’s mushroom bisque or a full entree. We enjoyed a very drinkable house red wine. The only disappointment was with the scallops: the butter overpowered the dish and ruined the balance of flavors. We look forward to returning to sit outside on this busy downtown corner!
