Johnny’s Downtown, opened in 1993, is similar to the original Johnny’s Bar on Fulton Road, featuring pasta, veal and fish. The setting, a refurbished 1860’s Warehouse District building, formerly a general store, is the drinking and dining spot of locals and business people alike. Joseph Fall, the executive chef, oversees the food operations and is responsible for our crafting our signature dishes and creating daily specials. There are several wines by the glass to choose from and the wine list has nabbed an Award of Excellence from the Wine Spectator.     I loved the place. I used to go to the restaurant that was located where Oliva is located. This is 100% better. We were immediately greeted at the door and send to our table. The ambience is great and with more lighting and an open kitchen. We had the Shrimp for an appetizer, soup and salad (both very authentic Italian. I had the rabbit ragu with a rabbit leg on top, my husband had the Ribeye with the red wind and butter sauce. I am very impressed and was not expecting the food, service and experience. We will both be back to try some other dishes such as the fennel salad, pasta with veal and blueberries. It is a hidden place but if you like Florentine food I would definitely recommend it

    Special evening for us. Quite busy for a Wednesday. Mitch was our server. Very personable and saw to all our requests. Started with lobster bisque. Delicious and warm. Perfect portion. Then to seafood tower. All quite good, especially the shrimp and seafood salad. Finished with waygu meatballs which were quite tasty. Glad they have a wide selection of gins!!
