Walk-in's always welcome! Screen Door is a restaurant that presents itself as a love letter to the American South and the revival of regional cooking. Each day, the restaurant receives natural, local organic meats and produce from nearby vendors. The inclusion of regional Pacific Northwest ingredients into a menu of dishes developed in the south has created a unique flavor profile in Screen Door's menu. Many of Screen Doors dishes draw their inspiration from Louisiana and the Cajun cooking that's found there. These include our world-famous Fried Chicken, Lowcountry shrimp and grits, smoked andouille chicken gumbo and fried okra. Other items, like the house-smoked beef brisket and braised pork shoulder, come straight from the state of Texas. The rest of the South is well represented as well with a Carolina pulled pork sandwich, chicken and waffles, crispy fried oysters and a pimiento cheese & sausage biscuit sandwich with a fried egg and cheddar grits.

Oma's Hideaway is a vibrant, maximalist restaurant inspired by the life and spirit of Chef Thomas Pisha Duffly's grandmother, Kiong Tien “Tina” Vandenberg. Her ability to adapt, to make the most out of limited resources, and to stay creative while projecting warmth and brightness is the guiding force behind Oma’s Hideaway.Born during the pandemic as a pop-up in the Gado Gado parking lot, Oma’s became a permanent beacon of iridescent light in Portland’s Richmond neighborhood in 2021. The menu draws from Tina’s life story, taking influence from the craveable, soul-satisfying hawker food of Singapore and Malaysia and “turning up the volume” with exaggerated yet balanced flavors in Chef Tom’s signature style. Oma’s serves dinner accompanied by a seasonal list of hand-crafted cocktails and zero-proof drinks.

Outstanding food. Friendly and attentive service. Extensive bottled wine list and adequate by the glass. We had beef and pork Gigli and crab fettucini plus a nice mixed green salad and the seasonal fruit crisp. Despite a torrential downpour, the awning over the front patio kept us dry and the weather was not cold, so it was a pleasant al fresco experience. The inside dining room was humming and full. One of the best restaurants in Portland. Get reservations early, especially for weekend nights.

Wife, son, and me - decades of dining out. First time to LM. Shared appetizers: deviled eggs with sweet meat (bacon?) were excellent; four halves to an order. Crispy Mitake mushrooms breaded, deep fried, with green goddess type dip. Mushrooms had little flavor and dip ok but not great. Wedge salad was solid, about as good as it can be given the standard ingredients. Cucumber and melon (cantaloupe) salad with cranberries and a somewhat salty dressing was very good, though I would reduce the saltiness of the dressing just a touch in favor of a more cucumber favoring flavor. And maybe just a touch of black pepper. But still very good and creative. Wife's duck breast was a touch chewy but flavorful. The accompanying broccoli rabe excellent. Son's ribeye steak, cooked to his medium preference, received a two thumbs up for tenderness and flavor. My LM burger, cooked well done per request, was the best hamburger I have ever had outside of the Bay Area where we had a similar burger artist. Juicy, sweet, cheesy - a perfect mix for the mouth and stomach but no doubt a new layer of plaque for the arteries. I have never felt good about paying a high price for a hamburger, but for $22 this one was worth it - especially considering the large side of very tasty fries that came with it. Dessert: Son's olive oil fruit cake was moist and tasty, though olive oil cake is a bit of an acquired taste for those trained on more sugary fare. Still, very nicely prepared and flavorful. Wife's Tiramisu was as good as it gets. My Sweet Corn Semifreddo was a very creative offering. The carmel cream main body was positively wonderful, light, cool, just the right sweetness. The bottom was a very think chocolate slab, tasty but I would substitute either graham cracker or oreo type crust for a bit more substance. The carmel corn w/b better as nuts. 2 thin peach slices not fully ripe. One cocktail each - average. Perfect service. $338 including tip. Overall a rare 5*
