Tonari is our Wafu Italian restaurant. WAFU means Japanese-style, so our menu is a Japanese take on Italian food. It originated in Japan through the love that the Japanese had for Italian food but wanted to incorporate some of their cultural flavors and ingredients to them. We at Daikaya Group and chef & owner, Katsuya Fukushima, are bringing this experience to you here in DC.Looking for some fun Japanese antipasti bites, one of a kind pasta dishes, or pizza that you won't find anywhere else in the city? The izakaya experience is perfect for after work, before a big night out, as a full supper, or for late-night bites with friends. The cuisine is freestyle and adaptive in nature. The appetizers were really delicious especially the red lentil soup, butter, shrimp, roasted eggplant – in cold meze. The entrees were not that as compared to the appetizers but lamb chops were good. They charge 20% of the check as the service fee which came as a surprise to us as it was not counted as gratuity. So we ended up paying 40% on top of the check .

First time there and glad discovered this beautiful restaurant. The decor was simple yet authentic. The service was just enough to not make us wait too long. We attended the brunch service where the chef brings out food to your table-what a treat! Every plate was more delicious than the last. The ambiance was energetic, great place for an event or to have a great time with friends. dlena is not on my top 3 for fave places to dine in DC.

This was my first time at this location, and we dined at Tyson Corner and Foggy bottom. Each location is unique, but all offers good eats. We had a 9am Brunch reservation, no waiting or lines. I highly recommend making a reservation it'll save time getting a seat, but walk-ins are welcome. This  location is spacious, clean, and opened, the staff is very courteous and helpful and our waitress was very warm and attentive. The food options were spot on, and my family and I enjoyed our experience at this restaurant. Overall, dining at this restaurant was delightful from the moment we walked in. I definitely recommend this founding Farmers location.

The cocktails were perfectly crafted. Wish there were a few more vodka and tequila crafted cocktails on the menu, but the ones offered were good. The dumplings were delicious. I ordered the garlic noodles; the cheese should be used lightly and may be more than 3 shrimp. Overall, great experience, our waiter was helpful in giving suggestions, and we appreciated the manager asking us for feedback on the garlic noodles. Great value across the board!
