New York City restaurateurs Pietro and Kelly Molendini took over the classic St. James farmhouse turned restaurant. The former co-owners of Vite Vinosteria in Astoria, Queens, who had moved from the city to Centerport, spent the summer renovating the dining room to a modern, clean look with neutral tones and contemporary artwork from Pietro Molendini's native Rome. They also expanded the bar from about four to 11 seats.Pietro Molendini has spent 30 years in the food industry, with a decade of that at Cipriani and stints at both Bar Pitti and Da Silvano. Along the way, he met chef Fabian Garcia Manca, who eventually headed the kitchen at Vito Vinosteria and now joins the Molendini’s in St. James. Kelly Molendini said Manca and her husband scour the tristate area and beyond for ingredients. "They are never home," she joked, and said that the pair source some of their meat from the Bronx, burrata from New Jersey and dried pasta from Italy and Sicily.Closed 11/17/2022 for private party

This place is easily the most luxurious Italian dining experience that truly respects the culture and the cuisine and is worth every penny. I've been here a handful of times (I live far otherwise I'd be here a lot more) and every single time they blew me away with the quality of food, drink and overall atmosphere. Mark and Anthony were very attentive and personable. They made the night very fun and it almost felt like a personalized experience with how well we all got along. I cannot recommend this place enough for anyone who really enjoys top notch food. Chef Marco and his wife Sabrina really sculpt a slice of Umbria in Smithtown and serve it on the most polished platter they can find. Osteria Umbra is a treasure that I will never tire of. Thank you to all for a splendid night!

What a lovely dinner! My friends and I dined at Insignia tonight for a birthday celebration. We had the pleasure of having Erin and Christian as our wait staff. They were fantastic and very attentive to our needs. The food was excellent as was the ambiance and service. Will most definitely be back!

Went there for our anniversary and they made it special… even brought out a cake with a candle in it as a surprise rotation sec to both of us., meal was perfect and the service was impeccable. It’s our favorite restaurant.
