This was one of the best dining experiences we have had in a while. The front of the house staff delightfully balanced being welcoming without being over intrusive. The service was flawless. And, then, there is the food. Even on a too hot evening in July, the food was not at all overbearing. Summer was condensed into intense but yet ethereal flavors. The shrimp with heads are a secret delight for those of us who know the heads and grilled shells can be a lovely contrast to the flesh of these crustaceans. They have so much flavor. The crab cake was a superb meeting of sea and land. I worked many years ago in the kitchen of one of Maine’s finest inn restaurants. Even so, without a doubt, tonight I had one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted - the cherry mousse. How the pastry chef managed to make a light and crisp chocolate pastry base for the dessert can only be explained through magic. Though the mirror glaze was without a single flaw, the pastry, though not as glamorous, was the true gem. Making a chocolate pastry dough is notoriously difficult. The Linzer torte, served as a treat to celebrate my husband’s birthday, had us both wanting to lick the plate. My husband told me I kept making “m” sounds during dinner - always a sign of contentment. You must eat here. You will be happy.

Lovely venue with pleasant and attentive staff. Limited menu options and more fish/seafood was fine for us but would be limiting for our friends with seafood allergies. The fresh produce was great and well prepared. The beef was a bit tough, tasty but not worth the high price point. Appetizers were delicious. We were too stuffed to have dessert.

We had a wonderful experience at Hunter’s Tavern. I enjoyed the crab cakes which were phenomenal paired with a delicious summer succotash. My husband, who is vegan, raved about the sweet potato “steak” dish that he said was the best vegan dish he’s ever had while dining out. The atmosphere was sophisticated but casual and our server, Dexter, made the evening super special with his attentive and friendly service. Highly recommend and we will be back!
