Legal Sea Foods began in 1950 as a fish market in the Inman Square neighborhood of Cambridge, Massachusetts. It's here that the "Legal" name became synonymous with quality and freshness. In 1968, our first seafood restaurant opened, right next to the fish market. The fish was simply prepared, either broiled or fried, and served on paper plates at communal picnic tables. Despite the low-key trappings, the food was second to none and word spread quickly. This early success led to further expansion and now, six decades later with restaurants along the Eastern Seaboard, the commitment to freshness and quality endures: "If it isn't fresh, it isn't Legal!" Inspired by the urban setting of its neighborhood, Legal Sea Foods Downtown Crossing is slick, dark and modern with glossy, black brick paired with glowing amber glass. Our lounge comprised half the restaurant while our dining room overlooks the open kitchen. In warmer months, we open our patio along Avenue de Lafayette.

Food was delicious. We had dinner on Monday and returned on Thursday. Johnny was our waiter and he was fantastic. We feel like we made a good friend. The restaurant should be grateful he is their employee. 5 stars all day long.

The service and food were excellent! This was my third time dining there and it is consistently excellent. The nice wine menu and popovers are an added benefit to the overall dining experience. I ordered the salmon and it was perfectly cooked with a nice crisp exterior. The side of spinach was very tasty too. Looking forward to my next visit.

Came after a show at the Boston Opera on a Wednesday and this was one of the few places open for dinner and we’re so glad we came! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the host and our server was lovely. We had the burger and oxtail Rasta pasta, which were reasonably priced for Downtown Boston and they were delicious! The oxtail was so tender and well-proportioned. Not a single crumb was left! Loved the mix of 90s/00s r&b and the volume was perfect- loud enough to vibe and sing along but still able to have a conversation and not have to shout like at other places. Highly recommend!
