- RRichVIPGreater Boston •47 reviews5.0Dined 2 days agoEstella is always excellent - we've been here many times. Tonight was my birthday, and we invited some good friends to join us - was their first visit. Everything was perfect, from a hassle-free adjustment to our reservation time when our friends were stuck in traffic, to seating us where we wanted, to exceptional service for the whole meal. Food was terrific, from appetizers to delicious entrees and desserts - mine with a candle and staff joining in for Happy Birthday. And excellent cocktails! One of our favorite places to eat downtown, and we will be back!More infoEstellaPrice: Expensive• American• Downtown Crossing•4.3

From the moment we were seated, our server and the whole floor team made us feel like regulars. Water glasses never dipped below half-full, plates landed the instant we wondered where they were, and every check-in felt sincere rather than scripted. That kind of attentiveness is easy to advertise, hard to deliver; you made it look effortless. We came for the seafood, and the kitchen delivered works of art: A tide-fresh oyster and prawn tower chilled on pebble ice, flanked by house-made cocktail and mignonette. Silky beef carpaccio sprinkled with shaved Parmesan, tiny herbs, and dots of egg yolk emulsion—a painter’s palette on porcelain. Feather-light calamari—crispy on the outside, tender inside—served in a little silver pot that kept every ring hot to the last bite. The star: a whole charcoal-grilled Mediterranean sea bream, filleted tableside and glossed with lemon-oregano oil. Every bite was sweet, smoky, and perfectly seasoned. Finally, that whimsical birthday dessert—raspberries and basil syrup under a cloud of spun sugar—brought the table to an appreciative hush before the candle was blown out. Each dish was balanced and confidently simple, letting pristine ingredients speak for themselves. If Boston ever gets a Michelin guide, I’d expect Ostra to earn a place immediately. White-linen tables, soft candlelight, and those sculptural shell-like pendants overhead create a space that feels sophisticated but never stuffy. Watching the open kitchen, rows of pans gleaming, fish resting on crushed ice, added a bit of theatre without distracting from our conversation. Most importantly, you helped make my girlfriend’s birthday feel truly special. The discreet candle, the handwritten “Happy Birthday” on the plate, and the staff’s warm wishes turned a great meal into a memory.More infoOstraPrice: Moderate• Seafood• Back Bay•4.9
