The Merchantman Pub in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island is located on the corner of Queen and Water Street right near the waterfront. This restaurant is newly renovated and offers a dazzling display of great menu items, along with a welcoming and friendly team of staff. The Merchantman Pub is open for both lunch and dinner and offers a casual and fun environment no matter when you decide to dine. Donald McIsaac erected this beautiful three storey brick building in 1862-1864 on Sims Corner, so called because the property had been in the possession of Thomas and Charlotte Alchorn Sims from 1806. The most colourful owner and occupant of the building was Mr. P.P. Gillis, who ran the “Red Pharmacy” between 1895 and 1910. A drug-store in the front half of the building and a reputed conviviality shop in the rear, proved very popular with local businessmen while prohibition was in effect. This location has also been a large family home, apartments and a barber shop. In the fall of 2005 local restaurateur Murphy's purchased the building and began the process of renovating to create what you are experiencing today. Murphy Hospitality Group is proud to present you with Prince Edward Island’s first authentic Steakhouse, and “Atlantic Canada’s Premier Steakhouse Experience”.

    The ambience and the service were phenomenal! Our server was extremely diligent, knowledgeable and helpful. The Gouda-crusted tenderloin was beautifully done and extremely tender! Unfortunately the 10oz striploin Oscar-style (rare) was quite tough - server quality checked and we didn’t mention, as we still cleaned our plates! The flavour was fantastic, everything was seasoned exceptionally well. We’re from out of province and would likely return but opt for the tenderloin or a ribeye over a striploin

    Delicious from the bread starter to the Tiramisu finish. Pasta was wonderful with flavourful sauces and generous portions. The evening started quiet but ended full and lively with a large helping of locals.

    The server was friendly and welcoming, love the ambience. We enjoyed the food - ordered pork belly? Tuna tartare and seared duck orzo and mussels and they were all good. Would recommend this place!

    Enjoyed a lovely meal celebrating my wife’s birthday. She had their chicken tacos (part of PEI “Taco Battle” promotion) and loved them. I had brown bag fish and chips which were great. Portions are very generous. Also had a flight of Gahan beers (called Training Wheels) and enjoyed them all. A lovely (complementary) birthday brownie to top off the evening.
