Restaurants near Base Camp Tasmania

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Old Wharf Restaurant. We tried the filet, bone in pork chop, broccoli, dinner salad and fig pudding. We found each prepared perfectly and presented beautifully. If we didn’t live over 8000 miles away, we would definitely come back again.

Always a wonderful dining experience, service is impeccable

If you’re looking for a lunch that’s innovative but not too left-field, with very nicely matched wines and a lovely outlook, Derwent Estate is a wonderful choice. It’s our favourite spring, summer and autumn venue but we’ve never tried it in winter. The dining area is an open sided shed, with drop-down clear plastic sides, built on the site of an original farm building. It’s been built to maximise the views over the Derwent River and is positioned to take in the sun. The menu show-cases local produce and is beautifully prepared, the service is excellent and the wines - especially the Pinot Gris and Riesling - are first class. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy any special occasion or an unplanned, off the cuff meal.

One of my favourites but tonight it didn’t hit the mark. The fish was very overcooked.
