Grotta di Fuoco, which translates to Fire Cave, is an industrial, rustic space with subtle lighting, raw steel, reclaimed wood, and concrete finishes. In 1688, Joseph Haviland built a tidewater gristmill that provided the locally-grown grains to a nearby bakery that supplied farmers and tradesmen with bread. It was the first public oven in New York State. Haviland’s Old Grist Mill and the public bakery were community gathering places for two centuries. Inspired by Joseph Haviland’s noble efforts, the Haviland Kitchen & Bar has been established for our neighbors.     Yummy brussels sprouts. A great neighborhood place. Food ranges from good to very good. No big fan of music which was loud, but that was on us, as we came on a Thursday. Overall two thumbs up.

    Fabulous as always! We ordered a bunch of appetizers. One was more delicious than the next. I especially loved the grilled oysters, and I have never tasted a better crab cake. Huge pieces of lump crab meat! I usually avoid crab cakes because of the breading. I ate here with some friends last week and one of them ordered the crab cakes, she said no breading (!) so I wanted to try them. I was not disappointed. My son is a foodie as well as being a personal chef so it’s a challenge to take him somewhere special. Aura fit the bill. He loved everything. And the music is just the right volume for a pleasant background with the ability to still have a conversation.
