Landini Brothers Ratings and Reviews
It's been many, many years since we'd been to the Old Town stalwart, Landini Brothers, it had been stodgy & very smoky
We were given a gift certificate here, of course, went back to use it
We were quite pleasantly surprised by both the ambiance & the food. The list of specials was extensive & varied...we were a table of 7 & each one of us thought our meal was exceptional
Service was attentive & our table was comfortable with a comfortable noise level
Not advertised-valet parking for $5-fabulous option on very busy lower King St!
Because Landini Brothers is normally an awesome place we chose to celebrate a birthday there. We ended up being served by the waiter from hell, Ronald A. We were one of 3 tables in the dining room so you would expect great service with business being slow but not tonight. Ronald would disappear for crazy amounts of time. It took 20 min to order or meal as he went into hiding. When the food came out my steak was not cooked right but I ended up eating it as Ronald never showed up until very long after we ate. Normally the waiter shows up after the food has been served to see if the food is OK but not Ronald he was in hiding again. One we were done and wanted our check it took another 15 minutes for Ronald to show up. I know waiting tables is hard and people can be demanding so I make allowances for that but when there are 3 tables service should no be so horrible.
Landini's is an excellent Italian restaurant in the heart of Alexandria.
The dining area is pleasant and the tables are spaced well apart. Since the rooms are broken up, the noise level is not too high unless you have a real loud mouth in your room.
The menu is varied and imaginative. Good variety of appetizers, soups, salads and en-trees. Something for everyone. If they don't have it made to your liking they can vary it. The sign of a real chef in the kitchen (great to have if you have food allergies).
Alfredo has been working there for many years. He really knows the various food and drink options and what ingredients are in each en-tree and what can be changed if desired. A real pro.
Try Landinis. It never fails to please.
The restaurant was beautiful to start. They had a great variety of Italian food. I got the shrimp scampi and it came with vegetables and potatoes. The entire plate was delicious. The wine was tasty as well. The service was great and everyone there was very attentive to our needs and constantly refilled our waters. Overall I was happy with the service and food. I loved the location as well. I had a reservation at 8 and showed up a few minutes late but our table was still ready and they were quick to seat us.
Ordered the lobster pasta special which 2 of us heard as $29 and the other heard $39. Bill came and it was $41... It was a highly disappointing entree even if it had been $39. Very little lobster, even with it split open and on the plate. The other seafood pasta entree was just OK, and while the chicken with Bolognese was very good, it was a bit salty and I didn't realize that it did not come with a side of pasta - my fault not theirs. The upper dining room was quite dark and we had to use our phone lights to read the menu. Service was good and atmosphere charming, but overall was just an average experience particularly because of the lobster entree.
Outstanding dinner. Loved the ambience, extensive menu selection and creative specials to choose from; extensive wine list too. We enjoyed veal scallopini - 2 variations and shrimp scampi my husband declared the best he had ever had. Home made pasta was perfectly al dente, and the heirloom tomatoes with cucumber made for a wonderful summer salad appetizer.
The Lobster Ravioli "special" was overcooked and watery. It tasted like canned food. I was shocked when I saw the bill and it was $45. It was also extremely loud where we were seated, which was by the bar. People should only be seated there when they request it. It was a weeknight and there were plenty of other tables. Lastly, our meals took FOREVER to come to the table and my husband and I were left bored with barely enough water while we waited. We will be eating at the Warf the next time we are in town.
First visit to Landini Brothers was wonderful. Our server Alfredo was attentive and the food was excellent. I had the Rockfish Piccata (a special that evening) and my wife had shrimp/scallops. I highly recommend each. We sat in the "wine room" upstairs which, I would guess, is normally quieter than the downstairs areas. Aside from the couple having an uncomfortable argument the evening was perfect.
Had loved this place when my children were young because food was good and the waiters always made our visits a special occasion for our children. Had not been back in a number of
years and was glad to see the it has not lost its charm and that it has maintained the quality of
We visited in mid June. We sat outside because the weather was fair. Got a table without a problem. The food was ok. The service was bizarre. Our waiter kept pulling up his pants and looked seemingly disinterested ...looking up instead of at us and kept pulling up his pants in a comical exaggerated way. Wished we had eaten inside with a different waiter, we might have felt differently about the experience.
Always consistently great food. A little pricey but such a great ambiance and environment to dine and service is excellent. Fresh Rockfish special and the grilled veal chop simply can not be beat and the Spinach Angiolotti is still to die for! Been coming here for nearly 30 years and always love returning.
We eat hear often and love it. Trusted good dinner with great wait staff! My only complaint, and this was the first time ever, was a long wait for our food to be served has never happened before. The wait staff even noticed it and gave us a free desert. Again outstanding trusted good food. Best place to eat in old town.
The best part of the evening was the beautiful ambiance and quiet atmosphere. The food was pretty good, notably both of our fish options were great. The tuna tartar app was fantastic (however the presentation was lacking, but overall flavor was superb) and my husband's main entree of rockfish was out of this world!
The menu was rather conventional and narrow, although the wine list had a broad range of options, both regionally (within Italy), and w/r/t price. Each of us enjoyed our meal, although the general flow of the conversation was along the lines of "I thought that the (fill in the menu item) was much better at (fill in another DC/NoVA restaurant)". Nothing stood out, except for the warm bread and soft butter that was brought to the table with our drink orders.
The service was sluggish and unprofessional - Heaven forfend that I ever hear another server respond to my expression of gratitude with, "No problem"! It is my default assumption/expectation that bringing me my appetizer (or refilling my water, or seasoning my salad with freshly ground black pepper, etc.) will not present the wait staff with "problems" - so, I have no need to be told that executing such services was indeed not problematic. A murmured, "Certainly", or "Of course", or (is this too much to ask?) "My pleasure, sir" would be most welcome.
Although the food was good, we ordered seafood, my wife had muscles and I had the seafood mix in both the appetizers and entree. Unfortunately, we both experienced improperly cleaned muscles with sand still in some of the muscles. Initially, my wife received the wrong entree dish, but to be fair, my wife and I have both had authentic Italian in Italy and it is always compared to that experience. Server was good and responsive to our requests. Food quality for US standard was above average, but as mentioned, we have had authentic Italian and its difficult to compare to American Italian. Overall, I thought for the price, the quality was lacking but just could have been an off night for the preparer.
