Lanai City Bar & Grille Ratings and Reviews
We stayed at the Hotel Lanai for a few nights and were very impressed with the quality of the food and service. The prices were very reasonable and the portions good. While we did not sit near the entertainment we were able to easily converse without being overwhelmed by loud background nouse and others conversations. That is my hallmark for a great restaurant. Would definitely recommend it to anyone going to Lanai. I only wished they were open for lunch!
We stayed at the Hotel Lanai, where the Lanai City Bar and Grille is located. The dinner menu had a number of offerings that sounded delicious. The food was excellent and the waiter was friendly. I would recommend the venison (from Lanai), which was nicely prepared and not very gamey. We enjoyed a Bananas Foster Bread pudding dessert that was large enough to share, and would be worth ordering again if we get a chance to return to the island.
Chef Jimmy made a traditional Thanksgiving dinnner that was delicious. Tomato bisque to begin was hearty and spot on! Stuffing with sage was delicious. The plate was heaped with perfectly prepared turkey and ham and extraordinary sweet potatoes. Thank you for a great thanksgiving! Always great food in a beautiful setting.
Firstly, if you are on the island you will have little choice for "fine dining" than this pleasant place. Alt is the Four Seasons, a fair distance away and quite pricey indeed --- though they do, uncharacteristically for 4Seasons, give you a big plate of food.
The food here is also a 'big plate' particularly on the modest items (e.g. pasta with red sauce). The fish is very good indeed. But in general beware the sauces, which can be a bit heavy handed. The chef , who is quite a good fellow, also likes to use a liberal amount of hot pepper which is not always well blended, so you can get a 'blast' of heat this is not so wonderful.
We expected a new menu but there were only a few additions. We got the one waitress we dread due to too much small talk and not enough service, also her sense of humor is a little too flirtatious. We had an average time and will probably not dine here for a while.
We had a very good dining experience at Lanai Bar & Grill and we highly recommend this establishment to those visiting Lanai City. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful in describing the various menu options. Kudos to Jimi, Arnell and Shanette for their outstanding service.
The restaurant was very nice with excellent food. As for the hotel, it's too bad the clerk at the front desk was very unfriendly and not attentive to locals visiting the island and paying a nice price tag for the rooms. He made us feel like we were back in the plantation days while paying over $200 per room per night. It's unfortunate this still goes on in Hawaii let alone the United States of America. Need to clean up your act Lanai and show some Aloha to the locals.
Outstanding meal! The chef has an impressive pedigree that include Chez Panisse. Gets two local deer every week to make his venison dishes. Fresh island fish was also outstanding! The dessert was a bananas foster/layered ice cream creation that was over the top! Amazing quality for the little town of Lanai City!
We had a wonderful evening at Lana'i City Grill, with a meal that easily rivaled the other island's hotel dining options, minus the water views. The new chef has recently come to Lana'i from mainland California, serving up a creative, delicious and exemplary menu of fresh farm to table options from fresh salads to local ahi to venison. We were very impressed with his talents, and highly recommend the ahi and ono options. The outdoor terrace is ringed with tall pines and twinkling lights. We wish that we had had more time on Lana'i to sample a second night! Local music on weekends.
My wife has a wheat or gluten allergy: Our waitresses were diligent in going over the menu with her in detail and returning to the kitchen to sort out any questions. Ultimately the chef came our table to put her at ease, and he really knows his stuff. The food was excellent, bartender great. Some of the dishes might have a bit of a more european influence: complex sauces (which isn't for everyone) This remains a wonderful place to eat and relax.
