Lana Restaurant & Bar - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I visited Lana on an impromptu trip to Charleston last weekend. Love the cozy neighborhood feel. Service was outstanding. I ordered the Risotto of the day and it was just OK; others at the table ordered the Basque Chicken, Steak and they were pleased. I would go back for a second chance.
Ate at Lanas for New Years Eve! Food was superb. Festive atmosphere which was somewhat loud but feel that it was because of the holiday. My sons steak was a bit overdone and he returned it. The follow up was quick and the second one was perfect. The pasta dishes were delicious and the service was excellent. Can't wait to go back!
Quiet neighborhood type restaurant. Comfortable booths with seat and back cushions. Laid back dining. Paparadelli Bolognese quite good but the Pork scallopini was incredible, adding almonds, capers and lemon which all arrived piping hot. Delicious seafood tomato based soup. A nice tray of two fresh pâtés completed our experience.
My wife and I joined another couple for the first time. The dumplings with broccoli and the dumplings with mushrooms were very very good. The bolognaise was the best I have ever tasted but the one poor dish was the scallops that were cooked beautifully but were over salted when cooked or when plated. The re-cook was pretty but still a little salt for our taste.
We also very much enjoyed our salads to start the meal as they were unique and lightly dresses. Our waiter was very knowledgeable on both the food and wine.
Great effort was made to correct our one poor dish. We will go back for sure when back in Charleston
I reluctantly give this a 2 for service since our waitstaff was fabulous. But there were apparently staffing issues both in the back and in front and it was out of her control. We waited what seemed like forever (finished two cocktails waiting). I will go again, hopefully it was just an off night during the holidays.
This was our third visit to Lana and it's become one of our favorites, though this visit was a little uneven. The service as always was fabulous, but some of the food was not as good as it has been in the past. The soup du jour (curried carrot) and the vegetable platter were outstanding and well worth going back for. The fish and the risotto of the day were both bland and under-seasoned. Still, we love the neighborhood feel of Lana, and we expect the food will be back up to its usual standards on our next visit!
Lana's was just a couple of blocks from where I was saying in Charleston. It's a great quaint restaurant in the neighborhood. They only had two waiters working and they were kept busy but our waiter was very attentive to the tables he was working. I had their steak frittes and wasn't disappointed.
Visiting Charleston, restaurant an easy walk from our B&B. Wife and I found the entire experience excellent. Great food, nice atmosphere and not too noisy. Great service by Sarah. We did the $40 price fix meal where one doesn't know what one will get until served. As Sarah promised, it was fun. The restaurant is fairly pricey and hence the 4 stars on value, but certainly other restaurants of this quality are pricier yet.
We reserved a table for two based on reviews and the location, which was a few minutes walk from our apartment. It was a great experience from start to finish. The wine list was very nice, the entrees were every bit as good as we expected (you have to try the Duck Confit - nice local twist on a classic dish) and the house made lemon tart was excellent. Good selection of after dinner drinks as well. We would go back, and in fact did go back the next night for a last drink at the end of the night.
I have always been a Lana fan but had not been in quite some time. On the waitress' recommendation, I ordered the Basque-style chicken...it was not good. The seasonings tasted like a taco seasoning mix. It was not a good meal.
Our service was spotty...starting with arriving and no one there to greet me for a few minutes, although I saw wait staff there. We had to ask that our waitress return to our table so we could order. They were not busy, so I don't know why the service was so spotty. She did check drinks regularly.
I've always used Lana as a great "go to" spot that the tourists don't know about...and I've sent many out of town guests there. I'll reconsider now. Hope it was just an off night, and maybe it's just the chicken recipe.
We have dined at Lana's a number of times and the food and service area always outstanding. Because it is away from the major tourist spots, there is a more local clientele, many who seem to be regulars. Great diversity off selections and a nicely assembled wine list that has less frequently seen wines (particularly the Spanish wines) at fair prices.
We eat at Lana's quite frequently. I can honestly say, we have never had a bad meal here. The house salad is terrific. I often eat it as an entree. This past visit, I had a snapper special that was excellent. Another member of our party had the Putenesca pasta. It is consistently tasty and well made. Our third member of our party had the chicken- which she raved about. The potato croquettes that come with the chicken were irresistible. If I had one issue, it would be that sometimes things get a bit spicy but they are very willing to lower the heat if you ask.
Service is always excellent. It appears they have a staff that is stable- not a lot of coming and going. Excellent choice for lunch or dinner.
Visited Lana on 9/17. Made reservations and was glad we did, as Lana was verybusy. We had a party of four, and our table was ready for when we arrived. It was Restaurant Week and they had a special Menu in addition to the regular choices. We all selected from the Specials and all enjoyed our meals. Service was excellent and we were impressed that the Chef assisted in serving each dish prepared. Lana is located in a neighborhood setting outside the main historic district, but was easy to find and worth the trip!
I agree with the majority of the reviews, Good food, good service, an adequate wine list, and overall a very pleasant dinning experience. We have been to Lana's 3 or 4 times and have never had a bad meal. And a big plus, free parking after 6:00 PM across the street.
The duck is what I ordered. It was had a peach sauce. You could not taste peach. The confit was a little more greasy than normal with not as much flavor as usual. I normally would rate the Lana duck very high just no this time. My brother ordered it as well. The breast portion of his duck was overcooked.
