About Lala Rokh

Lala Rokh, established in 1995, is located in the heart of the historic Beacon Hill, and is the namesake of Thomas Moore's 1817 romance novel. We feature Persian cuisine lovingly prepared and garnished with fragrant herbs and spices that we import directly. The recipes have been handed down from generation to generation to us from our mother who still tastes everything for quality. The restaurant is decorated with our family's one of a kind museum quality artwork. Our staff will do everything in their power to welcome you as we would to our home and provide impeccable service. Our specialty cocktails and wines have been created and picked specifically matched to our cuisine. Winner of numerous national and local awards by Gourmet, Zagat and Boston Magazine.

Some of the most delicious food I've had in a while! We got a bunch of small plates to share and everything was totally delightful. I'll definitely be back.

Delicious Persian food with variety of options for vegetarians, plenty of options for carnivores and fish lovers. Attentive wait staff and excellent service. Great location on Beacon Hill. Very good wine options by the glass and bottle.

Our experience at Lala Rokh was great from start to finish. We were welcomed warmly and seated promptly. Our waiter gave a very thorough rundown of the menu and provided great recommendations of what to try as it was our first time dining with them. The Persian Rose cocktail and various dishes surpassed my expectations. Nestled in the heart of Beacon Hill this spot is perfect for a date night and for the opportunity to explore Persian cuisine in a welcoming and family environment.

Excellent seasonings in beef, lamb, chicken and vegetable dishes as we introduced visiting 20 somethings to one of our favorite restaurants.

My boyfriend and I tried exploring Lala Rokh for a date, and we're so glad we did! Our server was amazing (very attentive, enthusiastic) and the food was great as well. The eggplant and shrimp for appetizers were delicious, as well as the two entrees (lamb and chicken). My boyfriend grew up in the Middle East and he said the lamb dish took him back to his mother's cooking.

First timers. Liked the low-key, relatively quiet atmosphere (we were in the back, but even the front part of the restaurant -- which is a little nicer in terms of decor -- maintained a low hum. Food was great, from the special zucchini soup to the beef kubideh to the duck leg. Desserts were OK, but noteworthy. Service was friendly and timely. Will try again!

Went to Lala Rokh to celebrate some friends visiting from Dublin and to show them the holiday lights on the Common just steps away. Couldn't have asked for a better meal, more charming service, and a more delightful locale. Everyone was raving about the choice of restaurant later, and I'll definitely be back.

We ate at Lala Rokh the night of the Beacon Hill Holiday Stroll - the ambiance was flat, staff was standoffish, food was salty -- we eat out a lot and rarely give this low of a rating - it just wasn't a great experience.

We were a group of 6 work friends/colleagues and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Lala Rokh. The food is really outstanding. Very fresh and tasty. The waitress was very nice and explained all the options to us.

One thing which is excellent too is that the restaurant is not noisy at all so you can actually have a conversation even with a group of 6.

The restaurant is very stylish and nicely decorated. Maybe not as cosy as some other restaurants on Beacon Hill. More modern.

Used to love this place and this place has been there forever. however, this time the experience is diff. I ordered the Cornish hen dish, which I did not realize they cut into pieces...then it tasted dry. I don't think the value is worth it. will not be back there again.

This is a beautiful restaurant in the Beacon Hill neighborhood - from the art on the wall to the comfortable dining areas it is a great spot to enjoy delicious persian food. We enjoyed the small plates - the borani esfanage (spinach) and the zeytoun (olive, walnut, pomegranate) dips. The meygoo (shrimp in garlic lemon), dolmeh (stuffed zucchini) and the lamb shish kabobs, mirza ghasemi (smoked eggplant) were all delicious.

We made a reservation but still had to wait over an half hour for a table. We saw our waitress three times: once to take our order, once to give us our food, and once to pay the bill. Their menu is a mix of tapas and all of the food was brought out at once and we were left holding one of the dishes because there was no room left on the table. As a whole, the food was very tasty, but given how poor the service was we do not plan on returning-it was not worth it.

While the food is fantastic, the service at Lala Rokh is getting worse by the month. I in fact had to warn my date of that fact, otherwise there were many inconveniences caused by the service that she would not have expected. The wine, for example, did not arrive well after the appetizers. The server forgot one of the appetizers altogether. We were abandoned for most of the experience and had to seek the help of various people (and there are enough people working at the restaurant to make this kind of negligence avoidable). The check then came late, a good 10 minutes after we had asked for it. And there was no attempt to compensate us for the mistakes regarding the wine, the appetizers and the check itself.

I love the food at Lala Rokh; but something has to be done about the service. I have had similarly bad experiences the last three times I have been there.

Off the main path on Beacon Hill. As soon as you walk into the restaurant you smell the flavors that will provide a very tasty meal to come. Very friendly staff. Lots of options and decision to eat appetizers tapas style as the meal or with a full entree.

The food was excellent, even if the portions were a little smaller than expected. The service was, however, extremely slow. Our server was always pleasant, but it took forever to catch her attention, and it often took her multiple turns to get quite simple tasks done. We waited with empty plates on our table for about half an hour before we could tell her that we were interested in desserts. Then she went away, came back, took our plates, disappeared for a while again, before coming back with dessert menus. A more efficient way would have been to simply to hand us the dessert menus and then take our plates, in one turn. The same thing happened when we asked for the check. We sat around with our empty dessert plates, until she eventually came by to take the plates, and asked us whether everything had been to our liking. When we said yes, she immediately smiled and left, and didn't give us time to ask for the check. We hoped that she would simply bring us the check, since she didn't ask us whether we wanted anything else, or offer us anything else. But no! We waited around for another 10 minutes or so before we could catch her and ask her for the check. The dining room was not full by this time, so all the waiting felt a bit unreasonable.

We live in Back Bay, close the the Public Gardens, and LaLa Rokh is our favorite restaurant in the Back Bay and Beacon Hill area, quiet enough to have a conversation, tasty and authentic Persian cuisine (don't miss the eggplant, lamb's liver and poached pear), and excellent service.

Some food was sublime (roasted eggplant with mint oil) but most of the dishes were only good. They should up their game with the meat: more subtle spicing. Iranian food is one of the finest cuisines in the world.

I don't think we'll be back.
On the plus side, the food was tasty and reasonably priced. The waiter was helpful and pleasant. And the kitchen produced the food very quickly.
But we had 3 service failures: 1) our requested "birthday candle" in our dessert didn't happen, 2) we didn't get a beer that we ordered before the meal, and 3) the noise level in the back room made conversation really difficult.

All in all, it was only a fair experience and we know we can do better elsewhere.

Lala Rokh is the most delightful neiborhood restaurant you will ever visit. The food is very unique and is prepared with great care, and the Service is very personable. As a bonus, they have one of the best single malt offerings outside of Scotland! Very cozy, family friendly restaurant, can't wait to go back!
