The Restaurant is beautiful and quaint. Food was not as good as I thought it should be for the price!
Thank you for the wonderful Mother's Day Brunch! The food and service were wonderful!
About a C- in food, but great ambiance and hotel!!
Nice setting with indoor and outdoor seating. A nice drink menu and exceptional food made for a very enjoyable experience.
always enjoy LRH-always enjoy LRH-always enjoy LRH-
It happened to be our 40th anniversary and we invited another couple who also has a home on Lake Burton. We enjoyed our dinner and the service was great. Unfortunately we never received a bottle of champagne our sons had ordered as a surprise. No huge issue, but...
We always enjoy LRH, and will continue dining there several times every season...
Bill, our sincerest apologies for not delivering the champagne to your table! An unfortunate oversight that most certainly will be reimbursed. Happy to hear the food and service was great, and we hope to continue serving you with nothing but top notch experiences! Thank you!
Amateur hour service .. food ok but not worth the price
We are always looking for ways to improve and better serve the community, thanks for your feedback! Feel free to email me with more details if you wish: Tiffany@Lakerabunhotel
Chef was unable to make any adjustments, would not recommend and will be on the “ if no where else to go “ list.
The staff is very warm and friendly and the hotel is beautiful. They sat us at our table outside (screened porch with gas heat lamps) and they had the temperature at the perfect temp. to take off our layers and sit comfortably. We were told that the hotel had a new chef! Well hats off to Chef Donnie Simmons for bringing a new flair to the hotel! The presentation of the food was delectable art, almost so beautiful you
did not want to eat it. The flavors that he uses are tasted not all at once but come at different intervals, bursting with nostalgia. The first night we had dinner, I had the Brussels sprouts app. to start which were cooked to perfection! The bitterness was extinguished with the perfect level of sweetness that ginger added. The plate was all but licked clean by my table. For my entree I ordered chicken and waffles. The waffles were actually cornbread waffles (which I can only assume how hard it is to make those) especially to that level of only what can be referred to as “heaven” by my table. The chicken was juicy and the whiskey honey drizzle was to die for! The portion seemed large at first but it was so damn good I ate every bit of it and wanted more! Chef Donnie came out to our table and we congratulated him on the best meal we have had in a long time! We actually came back 2 nights later and tried something by different. We were met with the same ambience and professionalism as the first night. The shrimp and grits with andouille were something to write home about! Best I have ever had hands down! Also try the collard greens! You wont find better anywhere! I love the new twist and the menu changes every week! Go try it and you can’t be disappointed!
Thank you for the great review! Look forward to serving you again soon!
Character of 1922 hotel has been retained without bringing in the kitsch and cliche . Pastoral setting next to lake is the cherry on top of the sundae .
Restaurant has great service for dinner and breakfast . Great cocktails ... surprisingly good wine list . Food was inconsistent with a range of so so to adequate. Sounds good in the menu but does not deliver at the table . Keep trying ... we'll definitely be back and look forward to seeing how things have progressed.
Thanks for the review and honest feedback! We will most certainly relay these comments to the chef and look forward to doing better for your next visit!
Beautiful setting, outstanding food & professional service!!! Look forward to going again soon!
We look forward to serving you again soon! Thank you for the review!
Lake Rabun Hotel is a great place to eat and to stay. I would recommended it to everyone.
We're so glad to hear that! Thank you for the review. See you again soon!
For $32 I got 1 side of a small trout. I opted for potatoes instead of collard greens and I got a plate full of dried up plain potatoes. Previously, I have had dinners here with trout prepared differently and it was far better. They also used to have some creative salads which are no longer offered. My husband ordered the scallops and he said they were quite good. We have eaten here many times in the past and it was so much better. This time it was small servings and less than anticipated quality. We were disappointed. Not sure why the changes.
Thank you for taking your time to provide us with your honest feedback. I apologize that your dining experience was not what you expected from prior visits. If you wouldn't mind, please send me an email at Tiffany@lakerabunhotel so that I can get a little more information from you. I am the dining room supervisor and would love the opportunity to make things right.
I wish I could say something good about the food bc I love this venue, but it was really bad. Pork was burned, fillet was over cooked and minuscule, trout also overdone. Peach cobbler was like airline food and the only ice cream in house was strawberry. We requested whipped cream and puzzlingly it came topped with popcorn.?? AND the bill was $160. This area has a serious dearth of restaurant employees so I hope this is what’s going on there. Sadly it’ll be awhile bf I return.
Harley, I am truly sorry about your subpar dining experience. Would you mind sending an email to Tiffany@lakerabunhotel so that I can get a little bit more information from you? I am the dining room supervisor and would love the opportunity to make things right! Thank you for taking the time to provide your honest feedback.
Wonderful Inn and restaurant. Intimate yet private, excellent service, and mouth-watering dishes! We had a marvelous time, and hope to return again!
Thank you for the review! We are so glad you enjoyed your experience and look forward to the opportunity to host you again soon!
The food and atmosphere were excellent
Thank you for the rating! We are so glad you enjoyed your dining experience with us!
Gorgeous hotel and restaurant with such a cozy feel! The staff was so nice and very helpful and the food was delicious. Love that the menu is seasonal and local!!
Thank you for the rating! We look forward to serving you again soon!
Finally got to go to LRHR; we’ve heard all good things. Covid kept us away but now fully vaccinated. We were very pleased. Shrimp and grits was excellent; my wife enjoyed the trout.
We loved the ambiance and mountain/lake feel. Our table was well attended but not overly so. Staff was warm and friendly. Prices were up there but but we expected that.
I’d highly recommend LRHR.
On behalf of our staff here at Lake Rabun Hotel, thank you for the positive feedback!
Food, wait staff and bartender (Cody) were friendly and attentive. Outstanding cocktail list. I enjoyed several on the list. Rustic 1920s building was very nice. Stayed at the hotel two nights, charming, romantic rooms.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to the opportunity to serve you again soon! Thank you!
Always love our trips to Lake Rabun Hotel and Restaurant! Superb food, service, and a great atmosphere.
Thank you for the rating and review! We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Cody, the bartender-mixologist, made some killer cocktails! The host staff was friendly and they helped us out with a detail on a future reservation. The wait staff was friendly but perhaps not wholly knowledgably about the menu. We were offered a fish special, but when we tried to order it, they were out even though the restaurant had only been open less than an hour. We were told they started out with only six portions. We enjoyed the corn bread biscuit and butter offered at the beginning of the meal, but was given a very small portion and was only offered one each. We loved the oyster appetizer - very fresh and perfectly fried. The scallop entrée, though highly recommended, proved to be disappointing. Scallop needs a good sear and all but one or two didn't, so the texture was pretty off putting in the mouth. We ate most of what we could, but left a few that had NO sear. We asked the server to let the chef know that the scallops were mostly under seared. We heard nothing back from management or the kitchen. We shared dessert, a cheesecake, which hadn't set properly and lacked flavor, although it had some tasty dots of lemon and rhubarb on top. I don't mind a high price point on a dinner plate but I do mind when the meal is not executed properly. The dining rooms and tables that were not being used were not set and the spaces overall looked shabby - I know it's a very old Inn but the spaces looked shabby because the management isn't taking care to present it in a beautiful way. Most of this is easily fixed, and I hope they do because I've promised to bring some out of town guests here next week.
Thank you for your honest feedback! Rest assured, this information will be passed along to our Executive Chef so that we may improve, we never want to provide anything less than a top notch experience for all of our guests! So glad you enjoyed your cocktails! Looking forward to serving you again soon and "wow"ing you with our stellar performance! :-)
Location service and ambience was great. Menu was limited.
Thank you for the positive review!
The menu looked great and I had high expectations but they fell short. It started well with a friendly waiter and the most delicious savory scones. I had the Brussels sprouts appetizer and scallop dinner. The scallops were cooked perfectly but extremely over seasoned. I had to scrap the seasoning off to eat them. The scallops came with a pimento gnocchi which I was excited about. The gnocchi were excellent but smothered in bacon jam which I usually love but it was so sweet and overpowering. Removing it though gave a very tasty gnocchi. The Brussels were charred perfectly but also smothered in the overpowering bacon jam. Service started out great but was never checked on and had to wait forever to get the check. The dining room is beautiful and breakfast was great and generous with flaky biscuits, peppered bacon, eggs to order and yogurt parfait. Breakfast service was speedy and friendly. The hotel and staff are amazing if thinking of staying, dinner just fell short
We appreciate your honest feedback and apologize for falling short on our dinner service! This is certainly not the type of standard we here at Lake Rabun Hotel want to set for our guests. This feedback will be passed along and we do hope you will return soon so that we may have the opportunity to provide nothing less than a top notch dining experience for you!
We went for our anniversary. Food and cocktails were excellent, as was the service.
Thank you for the positive feedback!
Very nice place with nice atmophere. The food was very good.
Thank you for the great review!
From cocktails to dessert, it was a beautiful experience!!
Great service and nice wine selection! Food is overpriced for what you get and it came out cold. Atmosphere was cool.
Great experience, not crowded, well run. Food was excellent!
Excellent atmosphere and meal. If ever in area again, would definitely go back. We had the rack of lamb and filet mignon presentation of it was so unique and it was so delicious.
Jade a great dinner. Adam our server was excellent.
Chef’s wagyu beef special was outstanding! Our dinner rivaled any 5 star restaurant in the city.
The pimento cheese fritters are wonderful, as were the scallops. Service was top notch, very cozy & comfortable atmosphere.
Thank you for your Glowing review! We are so glad you enjoyed everything and that Adam did such a fabulous job. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Real a pleasant meal and a great little get away.
Amazing dinner and service!
We dined at LRH frequently this past winter and into spring. One of our favorite fine dining restaurants. Always raved about the ambiance, excellent service, accommodating staff, and exceptional FOOD. Fabulous kitchen - great menu, specials, beautiful presentation and always imaginative delicious sides locally sourced.
However our first experience with the new CHEF DONNIE SIMMONS Thursday evening 4/29/21 was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. We both ordered the wild caught salmon special, and to Chef Simmons’s credit, it was grilled and seasoned perfectly. However the pile of crunchy (crunchy?) white rice, and a few florets of roasted broccoli was completely unimaginative (I’ve had better at Longhorn!) simply lackluster. Chef seemingly has no understanding of the affect presentation has on the diner. In fact when we ordered, we asked to change the sides, and were told Chef Simmons would tolerate no substitutions. We were appalled by his “take it or leave it attitude.”
We had planned to treat our mothers next weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day. But have cancelled the reservation. Sadly, until we hear that Chef Simmons can deliver what we have come to expect of a good dining experience, we will not return to LRH.

I took my husband for Valentines Day thinking he would love it. I have been to Lake Rabun Hotel before and just loved the ambiance and food. For Valentine’s the ambiance was completely lacking! The lights in the restaurant were on full bore (my previous visits had always had dimmed lights and string lights to add to the mood/ambiance) and the music was set to a pop station that honestly was just not setting the mood for Valentine’s. The food was completely subpar regardless of how good I wanted it to be. My husbands lobster bisque was very watered down and fishy- no depth like a true bisque should have. My husband ordered a mushroom pasta dish that had absolutely no flavor and no sauce on it! It was basically moistened mushroom tortellini that didn’t even have a mushroom flavor. I got the filet which although was tender was also very dry and served room temperature. Needless to say I was embarrassed that I built the food up to my husband so much. He will never go back. I will return with my mother and give it another try since we are local and I really have had great experiences here before.
We apologize that your experience was not what you had experienced in past visits. Feedback, good and bad, is always welcome. We at the Lake Rabun Hotel and Restaurant strive to make every experience a good one. Thank you for making us aware of what we need to improve. We hope to see you in the future and make your next memory with us exceptional.
Had reservations but probably an hour before we received our food some of which was cold
We are so sorry your food took so long. I, the dining room supervisor, was not aware of the situation or I would have loved to have expedited this. We were working with a fairly new staff and I thank you for you review. We are actively working on the cold food situation and will have this resolved promptly. Without your feedback we cannot improve. I do hope you will try us again in the future.
We have eaten at LRH before and it was good. Didn't like the very limited Valentine menu. Food was ok this time, service was great but hated our table in the bar area. This is a high traffic area for everyone entering and leaving the restaurant. Would go back on a 'non' holiday and request a different seating location purely based on prior experiences.
We had the best dinner with our out of town guests who had never been. Cody was as always amazing, as were the food, drinks and other staff. We always love to come for special occasions or just cause...never disappoints, and this time was no different. The Halibut special and mushroom soup were amazing! We had a variety of entrees and salads from the menu as well...all superb! Thank you again for making a special visit even more special!
We were warm and toasty in the enclosed / outdoor seating area. Food was very good. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly.
