Laili Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant seems to always leave me extremely satisfied. The food is awesome every time. The servers/bussers are on top of their game and very fast too. The food comes out when it's supposed to. Over all this is a good place to eat something different and authentic. The chai here is hands down the best I've ever had! You won't be disspointed with this restaurant! Go!!!!
This is our go to place for a wonderful meal and vibrant atmosphere. Great service and food. This is where we take guests from out of town. From meat to vegetarian options this place will please all. Nice wine list and the outdoor space is lovely if you can snag a spot.
Given that I was just here for lunch, dinner and lunch again the next day, I thought it was time to leave a review. I've also been here previously.
It's rhapsodic dining in the garden, with friends or solo. The indoors is lovely too- candlelit, and well placed tables. The food is absolutely delicious- I generally get the salmon fettuccine or the creative flatbreads. The service is focused and committed.
I recommend this restaurant! You can probably tell:-)))
We celebrated a birthday and found the restaurant to have a festive atmosphere without it being too loud for conversation. The menu was varied and wasn't too expensive. The service was fast, friendly, and attentive. The food was very good. I highly recommend!
I moved to Santa Cruz 3+ years ago and was initially abysmally disappointed with the food scene -- until my first positive brush with Laili's when I dined with a future employer in the stunning patio during a perfect warm afternoon. I've been bringing clients, colleagues, family and friends here ever since. The Truly rare combination of creativity, fresh delicious cuisine, beautiful setting AND impeccable service is unparalleled in this wonderful and unique oasis called Santa Cruz!
You complete us Laili! Hint; the amazing pomegranate eggplant!
Went there to celebrate a birthday! Made reservation on Open Table for 5:30pm and we were 10 min early. Our waitstaff was great, food was great. We had a 5:30pm reservation and the hostess would not seat us in the garden, even tho there were plenty of empty tables because "people arriving at 7pm had reserved them". Inside is one of those all concrete interiors and VERY noisy. I would never go here again if I had to sit indoors.
Again, food was fabulous but with the noise level and screaming children running around, I would not be seated inside again.
I live in Santa Cruz and love the food at laili. However, on this visit, for a business lunch, the service, from check-in to table to getting the coffee and check, reached a new low! Despite the fact that I had a reservation and the restaurant and courtyard were less than half full, it took 25 minutes to be seated! (for real). The table service was so slow that my cient/companion, who had told the server that she would want coffee at the end of the meal, was not able to order it timely and then it arrived so late she took it in a to go cup.
I will think twice before going back.
The outdoor seating at Lailas is beautiful; they turned on the heaters when it got a little cool. The tall walls on both side with vines crawling up them, fountains , etc.-enchanting. The food is delicious. We both had the lamb flanks which was done perfectly. They also let us choose a desert for our anniversary, and it was relish. The indoor is equally beautiful. All in all a lovely night.
The food was scrumptious. My D-I-L and I had lamb dishes, my husband had the chicken, and my son had the lamb linguine. Even my 5-year-old grandchildren loved their kid dinners. I always love the squash appetizer and the beet salad. The wait staff are friendly and courteous, and boy do they work hard. The only thing that I would wish would be desserts that have no wheat or sugar. Like fruit? Berries? Peaches in season?
We decided to eat an entirely vegetarian meal this evening, and it was so easy and enjoyable at Laila.
We started with two appetizers, the butternut squash, garlic, qurut yogurt, mint and pared it with the leek dumplings. They also provide a soft flatbread with oil & spices so this was a substantial start. The Kadoo boranee (butternut squash) was wonderful and sweet. We probably could have chosen a little spicier second dish to pare with it, but thoroughly enjoyed the dumplings.
We selected their flatbread special that was a roasted pare with soft cheese and other ingredients. To me, this was the most flavorful dish of the evening. I loved it.
We then had two main dishes we shared. The pomegranate eggplant was very flavorful and fruity and pared it with the arugula pesto which had very strong flavored olives. Both with very good dishes, but again we did not make the best pairing of flavors.
We had selected a syrah blend and our waiter suggested that we sample three wines and choose. He had thought that another wine might work better and he was absolutely correct. We very much appreciated his guidance and offer to taste. Our meal was better for this.
(And we hope that he passed his test the next day so he can pursue the career he desires--Go NIck!)
In general, we rely on Laili for a delicious, semi-regular date night, but the service this time around was unsatisfactory (errors in a simple order and an unsatisfactory response). We feel hesitant about returning: was the problem a one-off or a sign of the way things are headed?
We were fortunate enough to have reserved a table on the patio, which is typically booked solid. It's a beautiful courtyard surrounded on all four sides by building but doesn't feel small of claustrophobic because of the array of trees and plants growing in the space. The food and service were excellent, as always.
