Laili Ratings and Reviews
We've been to Laili a handful of times over the years and it continues to impress. The food is always flavorful and complex. Tonight we started with the Mediterranean sampler which featured yogurt, hummus, tabouleh, and a yummy eggplant concoction that had us asking for more flatbread.
For the entrée I got the lamb ragu fettuccine, very rich and lots of Mediterranean flavors. He ordered the special salad (baby spinach, strawberries, pomegranate, fennel, and garlic cheese) and flat bread (prosciutto and pear), both which were very tasty and did not disappoint. Accompanying all of this was a delicious Spanish Temperanillo.
We finished with dessert, of course. He enjoyed the cardamom pistachio ice cream with baklava...yes all of that goodness in one dish! I ordered the flourless chocolate torte which was light and on the dry side, not too sweet, and great with the wine.
The service good and attentive, and we're looking forward to going again.
Love going to Laili. My SO and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary here last weekend. The food is always great, as is the service. The Aushak leek dumplings were out of this world! One qualm: the chard that came with the dumplings was absolutely delicious, but the chard that came with my pomegranate eggplant entree was too salty - I couldn't finish it. Other than that, everything was great! The non-alcoholic ginger-mint-lime soda was so delicious and refreshing. Overall, a great date night!
I was visiting my son and his girlfriend and they were excited to take me to Laili . We had a reservation but the restaurant was so understaffed we waiting almost 30 min , with many tables sitting empty or not cleared ? This is one of the more expensive restaurants so this was surprising. The hostess seemed to be so stressed she never even greeted us or trued to explain the situation. When I finally complained she was rude and patronizing thanking me for my patience
After all this finally sat down and waited another 15min to place our order ? To make matters worse our food arrived cold but at this point it was so late and we had already missed the music across the street , I just paid the bill and left
Not the Saturday night out I hoped for . There was no visible manager that seemed to address the issue .... I guess the frazzled hostess was in charge that night ?
My first time to Laili will not be my last. The ambiance is lovely, especially the patio, beautiful garden extremely well-tended and lush. Heat lamps at night worked well, we never felt chilly. The service was very good, the prices reasonable, especially considering the food is yummmmy.
The Mediterranean dishes had something for everyone, including my vegan daughter. Everything made from fresh, organic, high-quality ingredients with well-seasoned choices that were delicious. Dishes made with chicken, lamb, veggies, vegan, potatoes, salads, appetizers - I can't wait to go back to try more! Highly recommend.
Their Kabobs are very good and I enjoyed their chicken Kabob. The ambiance is very nice and the restaurant has a good level of energy.
We ordered their medetranian platter for appetizer. I was unable to eat their babganosh because it was sweetened as they must have added sugar to it!!! I think their homus also had sugar.
We drove from Campbell into Santa Cruz and it was worth the time. They kindly honored our request to be seated outside where there is so much ambiance. It is an atmosphere that both caters to an intimate date or a larger gathering for a group. The location is perfect, right across from Abbott Square and great for walking around downtown after .
I had the sautéed eggplant with a pomegranate sauce which was just divine. It was highly recommended by our server and it was a very unique taste combination. For starters, we had the empanadas and a small greek salad, all very delicious.
Looking forward to returning again soon.
Bought a bottle of wine. Server did not offer customary wine service (smell the cork and taste the wine) he just poured 2 full glasses. Server checked on our food after expediter dropped the entrées. Then did not return for about 45 minutes. I watched him check on his other tables numerous times to the point where I started keeping count on how many times he checked other tables. We had waited so long we stacked our dishes and still waited another five minutes for someone to come around. By that point I just had my credit card ready and wanted the check. I'm a huge dessert fan but I had no desire to stay. Food was AMAZING, unfortunately I felt very disrespected.
Great food with unique tastes -- really recommend the apricot chicken flatbread as a main course and the Mediterranean plate as an appetizer. The food is very fresh and farm-to-table, interesting, different and carefully done -- not too much, not too expensive, but tasty and imaginative. Our server -- Jennifer -- was terrific: efficient, knowledgeable, happy, open and friendly, sincere. We really recommend this place -- we make sure to take all our out-of-town guests here for at least one meal while they are in town. We recommend asking for a table out in the walled patio garden, even in the cold weather (they have heaters there!), as it really enhances the experience, especially after dark.
I have been in Santa Cruz on business for 10 days and have had dinner here twice! Remarkable meals both times....lamb shank and filet Mignon shish kabob. The spices used for both represented the best of Mediterranean-Middle Eastern flavors! I Love to eat and love to cook...for me to highly rate a restaurant, it must provide amazing food that I typically do not make at home! Well done Laili....well done!!
