Great spot for CNY dim sum lunch. Very respective of OpenTable resos! Definitely book ahead - busy spot but no wait with reservation.
Chinese New Year
Good variety of real Chinese food. The place was busy and yet the service was done promptly with a smile!. A bit pricey but worth it.
My only beef: my tea cup was chipped and cracked; not what you would expect from a high end restaurant. When requested, the cup was quickly replaced. Staff should be more attentive to these "minor" detail before the guests arrive.
We were quite disapointed about this experience because the quality and service that we know about 5 years ago had gone down a lot.
For the price of the food , it is not valuable!

The dim sum dishes are perfectly prepared with delicate flavours and visual appeal. Chinese food comparable to some of the best restaurants in Hong Kong. Service is attentive without being intrusive. Excellent wine pairings--just ask for assistance. A true delight and a special oasis within the city of Toronto.
We’d been to this restaurant years ago when it first opened. It has radically changed.

Their food was pricy with a “just not bad” level. The most unbearable issue was their washrooms are so outdated, some of them were out of function which you would have never thought they belong to such a “so-called-upscale” restaurant!!
The washroom experience was so bad that I decided not to visit this restaurant again!I just couldn’t understand why the owner wouldn’t want to spend a little bit of money to renovate their washroom. I thought this restaurant would have been a good place for my family to enjoy a nice Xmas dinner. I was totally disappointed.
Great DimSum always. Great food and great service Many choices and food comes quickly.
Made reservations over lunch. Waited a while to have our order taken. Ordered the prix fixe---a couple of the courses were quite good, but nothing outstanding, and some rather bland. A large group came in and monopolized multiple servers' attention---we waited 35 minutes for our 'dessert' course, which truly wasn't worth the wait and nothing more than you would find (for much less) at a regular dim sum restaurant in Chinatown. Given this was during the business-lunch hour, and that the large group had made a reservation, service levels should have been better planned. The entire experience felt like a waste of money.
I’m fairly new to Toronto and had a fair share of dim sum in Chinatown. This place comes close to those weekend dim sum restaurants in Hong Kong that I frequent.
I was recommended by a website to celebrate my friend's birthday there. However, the waiter serving us was a bit unfriendly. They told me they would put a birthday candle for my friend but they totally forgot it! And Dongpo Pork was initially hard to eat and later we required a second cook. The food was not that delicious with expensive price. I don't think I'll go there again.
Fourteen years since the first Tim I ate there. Quite a feat to keep the quality of the food and the service at this level for so long. Bravo!
The food is not even comparable to a local restaurant although it should be a high end one. Service is so-so. Was there a few years ago and it was not like that.
We arrived late. It was 15:40 and the restaurant closed at 16:00. So that is on us and perhaps justifies what came next. There was a large amount of food brought up all at once (we ordered a prix-fixe 50 cad) and apart from the soup (which was great) the food was rather plain and tasteless. I had been there before for dinner and had a terrific experience so it was quite a disappointment this time.
Excellent dim sum! Excellent service! The food is fresh and generous. It costs a little more than other places, but the beautiful, elegant ambience, that is also very family friendly, makes a deep impression of smooth professionalism and care for details and some of the best dim sum to be found anywhere! Thank you, Lai Wah Heen and its outstanding staff at the entrance, service to the table, and most especially in the kitchen!
We heard that the chef is changed (actually most people in kitchen) therefore food quality is nothing compare to the standard that this restaurant serve few years ago. It is below par for this high class Chinese restaurant. Very disappointed!
I went to Toronto with a friend who once lived there and frequented Lai Wah Heen for Sunday brunch. The dim sum was incredible! The waiter was very helpful with suggestions of volume to order. All of the food was delicious and beautifully prepared. I highly recommend this restaurant...and there is free parking in the Doubletree's garage.
It's kind of pricey but everything is mediocre.
Unfortunately the premier spot for Dim Sum in Toronto has lost it’s appeal. The quality of the food has decreased quite dramatically
We went for the Peking Duck. The duck skin was not crispy, the waiter prepared each pancake away from the table where my guests could not see the procedure, the pancakes were too thick and heavy and not enough sauce was put on the pancake. I was disappointed. We should have been given the ingredients and allowed to prepare each pancake to our taste.
While waiting for the duck, a waitress placed three plates of dim sum in front of us, without comment. They seemed too large to be complimentary and were whisked away when I asked what they were. They were then delivered to another table of three.
For dessert we ordered ice cream. It was store-bought and took a long time to arrive.
For many years this has been our favourite place for Cantonese-style dim sum in Toronto, and it's always a pleasure to return. It's an elegant, upmarket space that manages to be relaxed and warm at the same time. The service is attentive and discreet, and helpful when help is needed. We ordered the prix fixe tasting menu ($100 for 2) and a couple of basic add-ons - har gao and some greens (kale) in oyster sauce. They do these basics perfectly, which is always a good sign in an expensive restaurant. Har gao, for instance, always seems to me to be the ideal test for a dim sum place at whatever level, and here both the wrapping (soft but also slightly chewy) and the filling (large firm pieces of prawn) were as good as you will find anywhere in Hong Kong. The prix fixe items are their show pieces and our responses were uneven. Some items were superb - the seafood bisque, the noodles with lobster in a delicious truffle broth, the crab claw, both the dessert items. Others were just a little disappointing; for instance, the mushrooms and vegetables wrapped in bean curd with grated truffles seemed strangely tasteless to both of us. Two other comments: their flagship items seem to have gotten larger and more difficult to handle with chopsticks (not quite little treasures any longer), and I think they could do away with the hokey animal shaped items - mice, crabs etc. When we return - which of course we shall - we'll choose the items we like best from the general menu rather than the prix fixe, but the prix fixe is a very good place to start for anyone coming here for the first time. The pu erh tea was excellent as always.
Excellent food and elegant serving of each dish on a separate plate. Most enjoyable Chinese dining as the food came one dish at a time so we could enjoy it gradually.
