Lago Ristorante and Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
We've been fans of Lago since they first opened and on one hand are happy to see them so busy. Unfortunately, it's also made saturday night dinners not feasible. 7:30 P.M.
and our table was absolutely waiting for us and our friends. But, with a packed room, the noise level made it difficult for any conversation. Also, the room temperature went from pleasant to freezing throughout the evening.
And the food- absolutely delicious, a great waiter and we were not rushed at all. We had the table for the evening.
Of course we will be back but will try and remember to pick another night.
The only thing I was disappointed about was that when I booked the reservation, the app asked if it was a special occasion which I said it was but no mention about it at the restaurant. I wasn't expecting the red carpet to be rolled out but why ask if nothing is done with the information. Secondly, my wife was brought the wrong dinner which meant having to wait about 10 minutes while I ate my dinner or it would have been cold. The waiter was very nice and extremely apologetic about it an even bought our dessert which was very nice of him to do, but wasn't expecting something like that at this type of pricey restaurant.
This was our first visit to Lago. The ambulance is cute and comfy, the food fabulous and the service is exceptional. Our waiter Marco made the experience top notch with his stories of Italy and Italian delicacy. The Lago papardelle was amazing! We will definitely return!
We had been to Lago once before and had a great meal and were looking forward to our second visit. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. We ordered a bottle of wine and it took twenty minutes to hear it was no longer available. During that time of waiting...... we had to ask for bread and water. Dinner took forever. Apparently, there are only two carts for the branzino presentation and too many were ordered for them to handle. Once we finally received our food, it was delicious. We will go back but never on a weekend.
Lago is an excellent restaurant. Everything we had from soup to dessert was authentic and delicious. The soups were not too salty, as in most restaurants. The vegetables were cooked to perfection. One in our group really enjoyed the seafood salad. Another was so happy with their spaghetti...a simple meal but cooked al dente and served with a delicious sauce. Another enjoyed the escarole very much.
Thank you to Anthony, our waiter, who was very attentive and recommended the excellent Nero d'avola wine which we liked very much. We would go back to Lago in an instant when visiting Purchase near West Harrison. Don't miss the cannoli and fruit plate for dessert along with some perfectly made cappuccino.
Amazing. One of the best pasta dishes I've ever had -- and I've eaten a lot of pasta at some very upscale famous restaurants. Their pappardelle with mushrooms made tableside in a bowl of cheese (which isn't on the menu) will have me going back regularly. The service and the atmosphere was great and it was definitely affordable considering how delicious it was -- I would have paid a lot more for that meal. Very delicious Italian restaurant and highly recommended.
Lago was excellent! Went for a birthday dinner and left a happy person. Charcuterie board was fantastic, caeser salad was table made as well as the pasta dish we ordered in a parmigiana cheese wheel. The osso buco was also delicious and great selection of Italian wines.
Whether you are dining with Louie at the bar or Andre (hope that's his name) in the back dining room, you will thoroughly enjoy your experience here. Lago is located in a quaint spot in Westchester yet EXUDES the Italian finesse that you expect in a family-owned neighborhood haunt that has tested the ages. I love. I love. Respect.
Food is very good. The service was slow and we weren't asked if we needed any cheese, pepper, etc. until we were almost done with our meals. Wine and cheese was cheap and bad quality. The website makes it look a lot nicer than it truly is inside. We were sat next to the bar and a party of 8 was placed near us. It was too loud. Prices do not match the decor.
Their food is very good, so I can't give it a bad rating.
I arrived on time, and told the person who came to seat me that I had a reservation. He seated me in a very busy bar area at a small two top next to a family with noisy children and facing the bar with televisions blaring. This wasn't what I had in mind for my birthday dinner. I asked the gentleman who took me to the table to be seated in the dining room instead. He walked me backed there, to a largely empty but much nicer room and said, "All these tables are reserved." I guess an Open Table reservation doesn't count at Lago. I said, "Ok, thanks, but I'm not sitting in the bar," and left. What a dismal experience.
We have dined at Lago several times and have never been disappointed in the food. The menu changes with the seasons. Salmon with pomegranate sauce was outstanding. My friend enjoyed seafood risotto and my other friend enjoyed grilled shrimp. We started with a wonderful salad with fresh strawberries. Italian cheesecake was disappointing, but Tartufo and Cannoli were delicious. Can't wait to go back to have pasta made in a wheel of parmesan cheese.
It was our first time there, having a dinner with friends. Our table was in the the centre ,seemed to be in the walking path. They could not change it as they were fully booked. The food and service was good. However it was too noisy and very overcrowded with strollers and people.
Fantastic meal from beginning to end! Lago was very accommodating for a out of town group work dinner. Service was impeccable, what you would expect to find at nice italian restaurant. We enjoyed the wine recommendations and everyone's food was wonderful! The table side filet of the branzino was some of the best we had ever had. The pasta was perfectly cooked. All around wonderful experience. HIGHLY recommend.
Went there on a Thursday evening. The dining room was full. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. (André was our server). The pasta appetizer prepared table side in a giant wheel of parmigiano reggiano is worth the trip. Deliciious. We had a large house salad they prepared family style for us which was well dressed and more than enough for four. The veal osso bucco and short ribs are standard menu items here and both were excellent. Sea bass was well prepared and glistening. Portions are not skimpy but not overwhelming either. We made the mistake of ordering wine by the glass and cocktails which, as in most places, inflates the price dramatically. Overall great leisurely dining experience.
Lago is a great restaurant with excellent food and service. My only negative comment is that when we arrived the hostess was on the phone speaking to someone who was trying to locate the restaurant and was lost. After standing there for several minutes she finally flagged someone else to show us to the table. In the future perhaps she could put the caller on hold.
