Lafayette Ratings and Reviews
Really underwhelmed by this place. The front desk staff sullen and aloof. The Waiter and Sommelier were great and even thought there were many bottles week over a hundred she suggested a delicious bottle well under that. The food was really uneven - the roast chicken was not cook bloody and rare and had to be returned. We ordered fries for the table to have with our dinner and they never came. When we inquired about them we were told there was an accident and they were coming out. 15 minutes later....I man really this huge place where everyone is eating fries and even after they mess up it takes this long. Basically they were dessert. Along with the free one they gave us because of the raw chicken leg and inept kitchen. The dessert was fine a tall puff pastry and cream tower with chocolate sauce. Hard to go wrong. No one seems to be watching the kitchen or for that fact managing the restaurant. The mens bathroom was a horror show. Dirty towels over flowing from the waste bin, broken locks on the stalls and filthy toilets so disgusting we waited to get to the theater to go. I wouldn't return. Of and make sure they don't give you the booth by the toilet. So much for making an advance reservation for a birthday. wouldn't recommend it or return. Go to Balthasar they know how to run a restaurant and it's basically where Lafayette got the idea.
Service was quite poor, the appetizer of tartare and French onion soups were good but the steaks and lobster pasta was terrible. They bring out a sparkly dessert tower as a show but literally take it away as soon as they put your actual dessert down, very strange.
I came here today with my niece for brunch. I had the oatmeal, which was good, and my niece had the lemon pancakes. The pancakes were fine but certainly not worth the $20 price tag. We shared a pain au chocolate which was fine. And I had a latte which was rather small but fine nonetheless. I am not going to rush back here and I wouldn't recommend this place to foodies, but I do think they do a solid brunch and the service was good.
We sat outside which was nice on a warm Fall night. The food was generally solid but the prices are a bit cringe-worthy, even for Manhattan. I don't mind paying up in some of the nicer restaurants but this place seems aggressive. French onion soup - $19 - which ends up be a ~$25 soup (including tax and tip). It was good bowl of soup but not worth 25 bucks! The desert was great.
Delicious.. service was excellent.. I did a good share w my girlfriend.. all dishes delivered were very tasty and perfect for sharing.. the purpose for the 4 stars was not being met at the check in w a knowledgeable staff member. He kept insisting he did not have my reservation.. when in fact Opentable followed up w all appropriate emails confirm my arrival time..
It’s tough when your first impression of a restaurant is the one that greets you first.. he was not someone I’d like to see Again when I return..
WE dined at Lafayette a few weeks earlier and wanted to try brunch, tried it , not impressed. We were greeted in a timely fashion and ordered water and drinks. Drinks came soon enough but champagne glass dirty and had to be returned. Over 20 minutes for the tap water, we had to turn around at the table and ask the bus person for the water ourselves. Ordered the Frissee salad to share for appetizer (first course) after 30 minutes still no app, waiter stopped by to inform us that the food was on way to which I reiterated the salad was first course, he agreed. A few minutes later everything arrive app and main course at same time! Mood killer! Still needs a lot of work on brunch, both menu and service! Better food, choices and service at BALTHAZAR!
The food was disappointing. I have been to Lafayette many times over the past 4+ years and I noticed a noticeable decline. Also, the restaurant was surprisingly not full. The leeks vinaigrette tasted as if they had been sitting dressed for a awhile and the spaghetti nicoise was largely tasteless and the fish didn’t seem fresh. Our hostess graciously took the spaghetti off our bill but obviously it would be far better to have enjoyed it in the first place. The wait staff were lovely.
