What Insiders Are Saying
Balthazar, you had a good 16-year run, but it’s time to step aside. Lafayette is now the quintessential French bistro of bustling downtown NYC.
Wonderful food and service
The room is beautiful and well laid out and very comfortable. The staff were very professional and on their game. I had the Risotto and it was amazing. I would definitely go back.
Great spit for everything. Casual yet great food and excellent service
It was so crowded that we waited an hour for our table. They were incredibly rude about it. We ended up leaving, which is a shame because I've eaten there before and the food is good--but not good enough to put up with a long wait and poor customer service.
Spend your time and money elsewhere. At $45 per person with no drinks that is a hefty price tag for an exceptionally mediocre experience. There are dozens of lovely brunch locations in NYC, Lafayette is no longer one of them.
Always amazing — from food to atmosphere to the exceptional service!
We had the most lovely experience at Lafayette this morning. The food was amazing, the service was tentative but not overwhelming. It is by far one of the best dining experiences I have had in New York.
Enjoyed everything profoundly!
Great food, nice atmosphere . Wonderful dessert , great for lunch or dinner
Miguel made us feel very welcome for Sunday brunch our last morning in the city. The soft scramble bowl was very large and filling.
The food was good but what set it apart was the service -- friendly, and frequeent but not disruptive!
Enjoy a special moment with my partner. The food was spectacular. Thank you very much for the request of the dessert. Thanks for everything.
Service was extremely slow..took about 10 minutes to even order bottle wine and another 10 + to get another bottle ..
Love the place, been here several time and we will be back❤️ Until next time
The food was incredibly authentic and the wait staff was so sweet
My experience was good but The food doesn’t was too good acording to the price that were expensive
Limited menu never changes. Too expensive. Not good value. $6 for a cup of tea?
Great brunch as always, prices aren't cheap but not terrible given what you get. Service is great and food is amazing
Best french toast and lemon pancakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a lovely place for lunch or dinner. This is a French bistro style place, with a very diverse menu that includes bistro standards but much more. Great wine by the glass, we didn't look at the bottles. At lunch they have some very interesting fruit-based drinks. Vegetarian and pescatarian options abound, but they also have a good burger! Staff are most welcoming and competent. They have their own bakery and bake their own bread, which is yummy. If you can't get to Paris go to Lafayette
Our go-to New Year's Day celebration spot - it sets a lovely note on which to start the year!
Always a great spot to have brunch! Love the pancakes and French toast! Eggs w/ leaks are a must!
This was my first time at Lafayette, we were there for brunch - the wait staff was friendly, the baked goods were beautiful to look at and the bread we ate was wonderful! The beet salad was fabulous - I had the eggs with chevre and they were great, my companion had the benedict and enjoyed them thoroughly. We also couldn't resist and shared 1 lemon pancake! Boy was it worth it! The people at the table next to us had the pancake foster - which looked beyond decadent. I also caught a glimpse of the burger which also looked incredible. I would absolutely go back.
Soft scrambled eggs with that horrible bread stick with truffle oil was not good at all. Outrageous at $23. My 3 other companions didn’t love their breakfast either. Bread basket was pretty boring. Hostess a bit surly and didn’t want to seat us until our whole party arrived- even though there were tons of empty tables and we really needed coffee. Although there were lots of tables, they sat a noisy family with little kids next to us and the kids were loud and annoying and throwing fruit all over the floor. Don’t know why they didn’t sit them elsewhere given all the room in the restaurant...
Food was great but waitress only took our order then we didn’t see her again until we asked for the check.
Pastries are awesome!!
Wonderful experience! Great food and service! French toast was incredible.
Very large and spacious restaurant. You don’t feel cramped like a lot of places in the city, and it never got so loud that my 5 friends and I couldn’t have a conversation. The service was great - never rushed, always attentive - and we all had a very enjoyable time.
This classic French bistro is magnificent on every level. Stylish atmosphere, great linens and tableware, perfect bread, delicious food and impeccable service that defies the stereotype of the snooty French server. The 3-course prix fixe lunch menu is a fantastic deal that will leave you happy and satisfied for the entire day. And no one does a bistro steak à point better than this!!
Love this place more each time I go. Consistently friendly & prompt service, very nice wines and delicious food. Looking for excuses to go again...
Starting with oysters, ending with perfectly cooked steaks-a wonderful family evening!
Omelette was tasteless, frites were soggy. Quite disappointing given the limited brunch menu that it really wasn’t very good. A nice space and good service, but the food was decidedly second rate.
Excellent brunch menu with good, tasty options. Ambiance is nice - it's a classic, brunch cafe with a French bistro vibe. We enjoyed comfy seating in a big, cozy, leather-seated booth. It is a large and busy place, and we enjoyed good, attentive service if somewhat impersonal.
Great family gathering!!!
Great food, excellent, friendly service. Accommodated extra people in the group. Would highly recommend it for brunch and dinner. An authentic French bistro with he best French fries in New York.
Came here to celebrate a family members graduation. The service was amazing and the food was great. The desserts were absolutely delightful.
Pre-dinner before the reading of “A Christmas Carol “ at the Merchant’s House
Wonderful food as always. The salad had the perfect vinaigrette. The dessert (Le Poire) was a work of art.
Gorgeous decor and tastefully decorated for the holidays. A gem.
Everything I have ever tried here has been superb. Really wonderful food and always amazing service!
