Balthazar, you had a good 16-year run, but it’s time to step aside. Lafayette is now the quintessential French bistro of bustling downtown NYC.
Excellent desserts!!! Worth every calorie!
Very comfortable; and very friendly staff, but the food is mediocre and the prices high.
A favorite for anytime of day, for a light meal, intimate conversation, or for a special occasion. Take friends and they love it and know they will return themselves. Delicious, beautiful, incredible service, friendly and knowledgable. There is not one item on the menu that isn't great. Incredible real French fries and Wow fresh bread and desserts from their own bakery near the front. We usually have lovely wines by the glass, but friends who treasure more wine went for a fine bottle and shared a rich spicy red with us. Great time.
Ridiculously expensive for the quality of the food.
Great ambiance with a very nice menu. A large and bright space suitable for groups as well as couples. I recommend Lafayette for brunch and dinner!
As always a wonderful experience! Food was great. Service was too.
this was our first visit, and we were all very pleasantly surprised. We had a 6 PM reservation, so it was not too noisy.... very pleasant place... food was imaginative and good... service was quite nice... would definitely go back.... my only caveat is that I bet it's noisy when it gets crowded..
Lafayette never fails to impress
Absolutely amazing! Both the lamb and duck were phenomenal
The place is beautiful. The food was delicious — the prix fixe menu is excellent. Loved the cauliflower risotto. No carbs and quite tasty. A completely lovely experience.
As always solid.
This was such a brilliant evening - Kevin looked after us beautifully and everything about our dinner at Lafayette tonight was perfect… NYC was hit by a snow storm, so the restaurant was so, so quiet, but it was perfect for us celebrating our anniversary! Thank you Lafayette!
If any potential guests read this, the French onion soup is to die for!
My favourite NY restaurant, coffee shop, bakery. It’s got it all
Expensive, loud, and mediocre. Nice ambiance but they were doing renovation work and it felt like I had a jackhammer in my ear. For the price, couldn't they pause during lunch hour? The chicken salad was banal. The service was superior but that is not quite enough.
Having dined previously at Lafayette, I will skip table service from now on and strictly go to the cafe henceforth (to which I frequent most every week).
While I understand brunch hours can be quite hectic, I was astounded by the poor service I received on Sunday, March 4, 2018 and by service, I mean my party had none.
After being seated promptly upon arrival, it took more than 20 minutes to be asked by a busser if our table would like water.
15 minutes later, the same busser (who was actually quite lovely) returned and inquired if my friend and I had been seen by a waiter yet. Answering no, she took our order instead.
After waiting close to another 30 minutes, our food arrived. Quickly finishing, I was incredibly dismayed when a tall male waiter (I believe to be named Sam) approached our table and asked how our meal was going.
Instead of exchanging any dissapointment, we asked for the check and got out of there immediately.
Again, while I completely empathize with waiters (I worked as one for years, along with bussing) there is simply no excuse for not greeting a table in your section and tending to a party (even if just two people) sporadically throughout their stay. Had our party had a waiter, I would have ordered more plates, coffee, juices and inquired more about particular menu items.
That said, this particular experience completely tainted my opinion of Lafayette and I will not dine again, nor recommend it as a go-to brunch spot to anyone.
Fabulous service and food!
I little bit of Paris in the middle of NYC. Perfect for weekday brunch but don't forget to booked a table.
Second time here. Food is fabulous. Service exceptional. Will return
It was awesome
My daughter and I got together. So much fun
We have patronized Lafayette's many times over the last several years. The food consistently is delicious and ample. Most recently we were a party of eight people; almost every person ordered a different menu item, many with materially different cooking times. Despite this, every dish arrives at the same time and all of them were the perfect temperature and consistency. The wine list if extensive with many reasonably priced bottles. The wait staff was attentive and accommodating. We will definitely return for dinners and brunches in the future.
Slow service, wonderful food! Would love to come again, but maybe on different circumstances.
Excellent food & service!
Celebrating my wife’s 50th....brunch at Lafayette made the day memorable!
Great staff make this a fine experience, and the food is excellent, too.
Our brunch at Lafayette was delightful and wonderfully delicious, with our neighboring booth sharing advice on their best-loved entrees. The pastries are fresh and the coconut, banana, chocolate croissant is scrumptious. Fresh juices, omelettes, scrambled eggs, bacon--it sounds pedestrian until you taste the blend of ingredients, such as the pepper jelly and vinegar in which the bacon is cooked. Lovely! And our server was absolutely lovely, too!
Mediocre, cold food. Brought check without asking. Wouldn’t go back.
Everything was great: impeccable service and delicious food.
Great food, great service and great ambiance. A special gem.
Was. Very nice!
By far, the worst restaurant booking I have ever booked on opentable. Very bad food, unbelievably hurrying service people, pouring tab water into already poured sparking without apologizing let alone offer replacement. I can’t say enough about how much of a bad experience it was. Horrific. It was embarrassing for me to have chosen this restaurant, an experience which I had to apologize to my guest for. Very bad and would never go back there again.
We shared the croque madame, lemon ricotta pancakes, croissants (super buttery and flakey) and omelette. Was ALL super yummy! This is one of those got to have for brunch places when in Manhattan! Don't forget to get some of their tasty baked goods for later!
It was so yummy!! Love their juices.
Great buzzy vibe and excellent food - could not be better!
It was amazing overall ~ the food was great . Ny friend ordered steak and found it as small portion. But it was amazing as always thanks
Overpriced and below ordinary. Food was bland and with so many great choices in NYC it was disappointing to be there. We had the mussels and the chicken, boring and dry... chicken doused in sauce.
Had the Omelette Provençale for breakfast - it was one the the best omelettes I have eaten. Delicious croissants, and great, tasty and spicy Bloody Maries that are not straight out of a bottle of commercial mix.
Really fantastic. Food, drinks, ambiance, service: everything was great
Friendly service. Excellent and novel food preparation. Pleasant surroundings.
Summary: asked for dressing on the side, salad came dressed; french fries were cold on the inside (does restaurant use frozen?); mussels were lukewarm even though the pot was hot; check showed extra wine glass not purchased, had to send waiter back to get it removed. For the price point of this restaurant, these types of issues really shouldn't be happening. Not worth returning.
