Staff was pleasant enough and professional . I took my niece for dinner after seeing the blue man group . The ambiance was satisfying . We were greeted at the door immediately by a pleasant young man . The restaurant was not busy . It was an early Sunday eve . The food came out very quickly . The presentation was blah . The food looked and tasted like it had been sitting awhile . Not fresh at all . The French onion soup had a rich flavor . The shank of beef was one bite of meat . I ordered the Brussels sprouts with smoked bacon . Nothing special and too salty .My niece ordered the black macaroni with seafood and tomato sauce . The cuttle fish was overly chewy and the sauce was very unbalanced with an overwhelming lemon flavor . I skipped on dessert because of the extravagant price and the uncertainty of freshness . They have an attached bakery and I felt the dessert may have been sitting for awhile .Overall I was disappointed . The price charged was not worth it .
I was looking forward to the French toast, but they ran out. This seems to be a popular dish, therefore it should be available until brunch is over.
I have always liked Lafayette. And I have recommended it to many folks including clients. But this time it was so disappointing.
Good food, but overpriced for what it is. Nice atmosphere and fairly quiet. Attentive service.
Great food. Quieter than the likes of Smith, so is pleasant to talk. Bit expensive - good for a treat.
My family and I have dined here multiple times over the last few years and have always had great experiences here. Warm and welcoming, the staff is friendly and attentive, the food always top notch. French standards plus specials always done to perfection. Prices are not inexpensive but for what you get they are totally worth it. Don’t forget desert. Fantastic pastries and specials. Have never had anything that wasn’t great.
Great service! From hostess to wait staff, everyone was so lovely. Food was delicious and casual French, great option for brunch with a friend or a larger group.
Never disappointed at Lafayette. Food is great and they are so accommodating! Baked goods are the best.
Food, wine and service were great. The place is a bit too noisy.
Stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday and was a bit more than what we were looking for. Initially we were looking for a quick bite, but we were so glad we stayed. The restaurant decor is very French feeling and the food was delicious. We had the lemon pancakes with fresh berries and Anson Mills oatmeal. Nothing fancy, but man were they scrumptious. The pancakes were substantial with the best berry compote on top. Didn't even need syrup. I love the oatmeal for it's simplicity, and the fruit stewed in cognac were superb! I would definitely go back and loved the location. Only fault was slow service for the check because they were having printer issues. Otherwise, a great choice!
Great meal, service was a bit lackluster.
Delish authentic French food - unexpected in the US. Very good service, beautiful room, great vibe. Loved it!
Nice place. What I was expecting as it was recommended by a trusted foody.
Excellent well prepared food in a sophisticated setting . Service pays great attention to details.
Service was excellent, especially given the crowd. The bacon was gooey and impossible to chew. The Virgin Mary crazy slaty. Yuck. Other food was good. The pancakes were drenched in fruit syrup though, which made them soggy on arrival. Scrambled eggs great.
Met old friends for brunch. We had the absolute nicest waiter! Simple orders - omelets and croque madame. All delicious. Good strong coffee - only complaint is that the milk or cream comes in tiny ramekins. Our lovely waiter was happy to bring more as requested however.
we went to Lafayette on New Years' Day for lunch and it was surprisingly busy, but we were well taken care of and out in plenty of time to get to our show. Food was great, service felt personal and attentive. Decor is ok, comfortable and not quite as cramped as a real French bistro. Overall very very good and will definitely go again
Delicious brunch as usual ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Delicious French food in a great space
We will gladly return
Incredible service. Amazing staff. I brought my mom to NYC after she brought me 30 years ago. This was her highlight.
Delicioso!!!!! Es garantía 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I ordered the squab with black truffles at $60 and they cooked the sauce with truffles so that the aroma was gone. The truffles should be fresh so they can add to the aroma of the dish not cooked with the sauce.
Christmas lunch! Such a wonderful restaurant, wonderful food and team members! Our waiters recommendations were terrific! Thank you so much for a memorable meal! Merry Christmas’
Christmas Eve. This was my third visit in the last six months. As always the wait staff is friendly , knowledgeable and courteous. I like the fact that the music is not too loud and overwhelming the conversation. This past visit, my guests and I ordered pasta dishes for our main course. Although good, we have found as on previous occasions that they were too salty. Salt can always be added if needed but never taken away. I cannot speak for other dishes on the menu at this time.
Great restaurant !
Amazing. Food is incredible. Dry aged duck was insane. Great service and somm knew his stuff.
Very few choices for vegetarian/vegan diners.....lots of dairy & butter.
Although not a good choice for me personally, I would certainly recommend to others.
Great food and ambiance
Food is always good. As is service, our waiter in particular was very good about addressing my pregnant wife's dietary restrictions. Black macaroni and dry aged duck are must haves. But the dessert menu could use some retooling. Unfortunately this visit the table next to us filled with 10 idiots who don't know how to speak except in very very loud expletives every other word, literally the whole restaurant paused for a moment at one point like one of those movie scenes. Was disappointed management didn't address the issue earlier in the evening or more strictly.
Great meal and vibe, lovely service. I'd go back. Loved that steak.
Overall Brunch food was just okay, and the service was a bit slow and inattentive. Would not be my first choice for my next brunch.
Disappointed. I know, I know, Layafette can be a great place. I've been there twice before there for breakfast and the experience has been very good. But this time, they had a total fail.
Seated right next to a bussing station, our morning was louder and busier than it should have been. I was greeted with water rather quickly, but that's when the service stopped. From more coffee to the check, I ALWAYS had to get our server's attention.
The food, yes overpriced, but often worth it for the entire ambiance, but cold, like the cold ground. The most expensive dish on the breakfast menu, the salmon benedict, arrived cold. I mean, cold. Luckily, my companion had the delicious pancakes, always a treat.
So, chalk this up to bad seating position and a not so "into" it server, maybe. It just feels like the experience was just phoned in this time. They have a great reputation, but everything seems to be slipping.
Time to reevaluate going here from now own. In fact, I think this was (sadly) my last time. I'm not interested in taking another chance. Time for an overhall, Lafayette. You used to be great...what happened?
We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation time. Very disappointing
This has been one of my favorite downtown restaurants for several years. Unfortunately no longer. The noise was so loud it was impossible to have a conversation. One of our guest’s pasta was cold by the time it arrived. The waiter disappeared and our guest was hungry and did not want to wait another 15 min for him to circle by our table. We ordered a martini with very specific directions which were not followed. Our tuna tartare appetizer looked like it had been thrown on the plate without any attention to presentation. The dessert which was urged as a great choice with much fanfare was underwhelming and not worth deconstructing for its flaws. All in all this place has lost its way. We won’t be coming back.
Lafayette never disappoints. Everything about it is perfect--the food is delicious, the waitstaff warm, lovely people, you are never rushed out, and the space itself invites the ancient art of leisurely dining.
I came here when they first opened and they’re very consistent in quality all around!
Service was terrible. Been here many times but this was absurd. Waiter didn’t get the orders correct. He forgot an order and never refilled our coffees. If this is his day job, he should quit it.
Such a delightful atmosphere and delicious food! Get yourself over there already! And enjoy!
Went for Sunday brunch, were seated right away. All the staff were very nice and helpful. Had special soft eggs with Italian white truffles-it was amazing. Food is wonderful at this place
