Lafayette Village Grill Ratings and Reviews
Third time visiting Village Grill and the food never disappoints. Our waiter could have been a bit more attentive but it doesn't take away from the great food this place offers. Nice place to hang out with or meet friends, a business lunch or just about any occasion. Atmosphere is lively and fun so if you are looking for a quiet , secluded spot this is not the place. However, if you are looking for a place that serves consistently great food with an upbeat vibe then you can't go wrong.
It was just we two for Thanksgiving dinner this year, so we took a chance on Lafayette Village Grill. We hadn't been there for at least 4 years, and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, and the lower-than-remembered noise level. The staff were friendly and attentive as well.
The only criticism I would mention is that it was odd, and a little awkward, that the buffet serving tables were set chest-high. I've never seen this before. It made it almost impossible NOT to breathe over the food, and I had some difficulty filling my plate at that height. Apart from this minor detail, a thoroughly enjoyable meal!
Food tasted like it came out of a can. If you just want food, and pretty big portions in a fun environment this is the place for you. No management here, so servers have no idea what they are doing, there are no systems and procedures and the attitude of unsupervised staff is what you might expect.
Too bad, good concept, good decor poor poor management
People were nice enough but the service wasn’t great. Place was not busy at all but it took way longer than expected to get food. Also, I had to keep clearing our table of used glasses & plates. Seems like there’s a lot of potential here but we left disappointed.
They were Not prepared for a busy night. Waitress was very nice even being overwhelmed and got the orders correct. We waited quite a while before ordering. Food was not great. Lettuce wraps were bland and lettuce was hardly big enough to fill. I've always had good experiences here but this night wasn't great.
The place is good looking and it's probably a good place to have a drink. The food was presented well. It was poor quality and either over or under cooked. The only person who finished was my 15 yr old son. However, he eats anything and everything.
I had lunch before doing some errands in town. The menu had a wide variety of choices and I intend to go back in the future to try some other dishes. I did the soup and sandwich combination with tuna melt and broccoli and cheese soup. There were a reasonable number of wines available by the glass but mostly widely available selections. The atmosphere is casual and sporty. It was a cool day so I did not eat on the patio but like that they offer outdoor seating.
We decided to eat outdoors. Unfortunately as a result we had to deal with too many flies. Otherwise the meal was excellent, the service attentive but not intrusive, and since it was a Thursday evening there was entertainment on the lawn. A very enjoyable evening with friends.
I had been there before so I thought it would be a good choice. The young woman who waited on us was not attentive. I specifically asked for just vinegar, NOT vinaigrette. I repeated it several times. I got vinaigrette & she said well this is what they gave me. Also, my friend order a beer twice & each time she wanted over 10 minutes. The second time, I went to the bar to get it & the bartender was not very friendly about it. Mind you, there were only two other parties in the place as it was about 3pm. Very disappointed & embarrassed.
The ahi tuna salad was divine! Will definitely be going back for more. The tuna was seared to perfection. My husband had a burger, which he enjoyed very much. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We like to dine here casually with friends or for special occasions. The cocktails are fantastic. Overall, a great place with exceptional dishes!
We requested outside dining because we had two little ones with us 8 & 5. They quickly made friends and played in the large courtyard area. The menu offered kids is excellent. It was our third time there and it's nice to watch the kids play as we casually had dinner and drinks.
It was Mother's Day so they were very busy and had been all day...We were told this more than once by the waitress and another waiter. None of our food came out at the same time and when it did most of it had to be sent back because it was cold. We were told we'd be getting a discount and that the chef and or manager would be over to talk to us and neither happened. Live and learn. $75 that could have been spent on a better experience someplace else...
Really just terrible. I want to like this restaurant. The location is great and the menu is so appealing, but it is just terribly managed. Had food spilled all over my table, asked repeatedly for napkins and clothes to clean up our table and clothes. Finally used my own wetwipes from the car. Manager never came to apologize or seem to notice. Went and asked the manager for silverware and he was totally annoyed to provide it, versus concerned that I had to physically come get it myself. Felt awful for the waitress. She was sweet, but dealing with a ton of management issues. 2 of 3 entrees came out completely incorrectly. Owner/operator needs to take a close look profit is going out the window.
This review is with a caveat that Lafayette Village Grill might be better on a normal occasion. We had reservations for 7 on Mother's Day for lunch. We were seated promptly. Waitress was attentive is getting order. However, when a member of our party ordered chips, she dashed off without seeing if there were any other appetizer orders. Later, when she came to take our orders, I ordered an appetizer soup along with an entree. She asked if I wanted the soup to come out ahead, I said "yes." However, she did not bring the soup for at least 20 minutes. The chips were exhausted twice while we waited for our meals. Much time was going by, and the waitress was giving us no updates. When my wife finally got her attention to ask about our food, she said that it was taking 30 - 40 minutes to get orders ready (our wait was at least 40 minutes after ordering). When the food finally arrived, at least two of the orders (my omelet included) had noticeably cooled. The food was otherwise OK, but no one was especially pleased. Our main complaint however is that the restaurant should have been prepared to handle the Mother's Day lunch crowd. They were most definitely not prepared.
Lunch for Mother's Day for 5. We sat inside (had reservation for 11:45am). We were seated promptly, took about 10 minutes for us to be acknowledged by our server. We had to ask for refills for our drinks if we happened to see her walk by. We had to ask if our food was ready after placing our order (30 mins had passed). Not sure I will go back for a "special" occasion.
The service was very slow. Also there was no air conditioning in the back half of the restaurant. We requested the manager. 20 minutes later a guy who claimed to be the manager came by. He seemed like he really didn't care. Never came back to check with us, it was very warm and humid outside and miserable inside. We have been to eat numerous times, they don't seem to want to spend the money to run the air conditioning. Won't be back any time soon.
Easter lunch with my college age kids that had an hour to eat . The Wait for our food was way too long. Waitress was nice and apologetic and said a large party was the reason. Then there was a long wait time to get my check picked up for payment. I was expecting to be there for an hour but it was an extra 30 min.
Food delicious !
We must have been at Village Grille on a REALLY bad night because although we made 6:30 reservations and were promptly seated, by almost 8pm we still had not received our food. We had hoped dining with two children at an earlier time, we would have an early night and good food.
The waiter did acknowledge the issue, maybe before we were even aware as he brought us something to nibble on while we waited. This should have been a red flag... but we have been to VG before and maybe were a bit more tolerant of hiccups. After over an hour after placing our order, we pleaded with the manager & server to just bring the kids food ASAP and we would continue to wait patiently for ours. The manager never returned to follow up and the server told us after 10 min of being scarce that it would be an additional 15 for the children's food. We left. It's our fault for holding out hope and giving them the benefit of the doubt for 1.5 hours, but to wait 90 plus min for food is a major fail on the restaurants side. As much as we have frequented VG in the past, it will be very hard to ever go back.
Love the warm goat cheese salad with steak. Burger was good too. Unseasonably warm weather made the patio fill up quickly so there were no outside seats unless you got there before 5:45. Service was slow since they were slammed so drinks went unfilled for a while. Disliked having to eat inside because then the younger kids couldn't run and play in the green space while we ate, socialized, and supervised. Overall decent though. We eat here once a month or so and will continue.
Very good food with great service. We went for dinner on a Friday night and while everything was really good, there were a lot of kids and parents who didn't really make sure they behaved. I watched one table have macaroni and cheese thrown all over the place by an infant who also broke several dishes by throwing them on the floor. However, the employees took care of things, but I felt sorry for them. We'll definitely return and the food was good.
