   Great place for a breakfast meeting. Staff was courteous and attentive. Food was delicous and expertly crafted, no messy bites here. Coffee and tea service were excellent, overall setting was high end and appealing. Recommend the salmon eggs benedict. Price point for quality was similar across DC. Will definitely be back soon.

   We made a reso thinking this was the buffet style sunday Brunch people rave about but once we sat and knew the menu was small and limited we asked for the check and left. All we had was orange juice but it was bad. Oranges must have been unripe when juiced so it was bitter. We went to The Four Seasons Brunch instead.

    Such a special place! Pedro is a fine server. Terrific food. Great drinks and wines. We took our time and enjoyed everything! Go and enjoy this one of a kind experience.

    We’ve been to Lafayette many times, it’s an old favorite, but last night, as we were out celebrating a special occasion, it seemed as if the staff were dialing it in, if that. We were seated promptly, and then after 20 minutes, a waiter came by and said white bean soup and left. That was it. No introduction, no asking us if we wanted drinks, just “white bean soup.” We then had to flag down a waiter to make a drink order. After another 10 minutes we had to ask the bus boy to send over our waiter so we could place our order. At that point, another waiter appeared who we hadn’t met before, and he seemed totally discombobulated. He wasn’t very familiar with menu, but he did take our order. In the mean time, another couple was seated at the table next to us (the first Maitre D’ had told us “we we’re holding this window for you” the second Maitre D’ didn’t seem to be in on the plan, even though the restaurant was basically empty save for a party that was emptying out). That couple had their drinks and order taken immediately - so at least someone was getting service. My wife had the beet salad and branzino which was nothing special. She asked for the mash potatoes to be substituted with a vegetable but they just omitted it. The Foie Gras and Lamb I must say were excellent. For dessert my wife had the chocolate Gateau which was more of a caramel chocolate brick. The passion fruit soufflé was delicious. For dessert they ignored our coffee order, it just never arrived and we weren’t charged. No explanation. The glass of port at the end was all sediment, definitely the dregs of what was left in the bottle. So bad service and inconsistent food. A shame for what has been a go to favorite over the years.

    This is our go to splurge breakfast place. The staff is over the top amazing, attentive, and professional. The dining room is beautiful, with views of the Lafayette Square and the White House. Oh, the food, always incredible!

    We have lunch here every New Year’s Eve and have been doing this for over a decade. What a beautiful restaurant and hotel. And what a fabulous way to begin to usher in the new year. Food is fabulous. Staff are superb!

    We had the duck, the Dover sole, foie gras, beets, and passion fruit soufflé. Outstanding! Also, we really enjoyed the pianist who played pieces from the American song book. The service fell down a bit, but that isn’t typical for this excellent restaurant. Friendly and helpful manager and hostess. Windows overlook Lafayette Park and The White House.

    My husband chose Lafayette because he wanted us to have a very special lunch as part of our 24 hour visit to DC (to tour the White House holiday decorations). Lafayette did not disappoint. From the moment we walked up the hotel stairs to the restaurant, we were enveloped by the old school elegance. The staff members were all friendly, professional, and accommodating. The menu selections are a bit limited and pricey ($6 for a coke), but we both thoroughly enjoyed our selections (gnocchi for me and branzino for my husband). The fresh bread was delicious too. The whole experience was a wonderful treat.

    This experience was amazing. My wife and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary and everything exceeded expectations. Jorge was our waiter and he was excellent. He allowed us to take our time and enjoy the night. We sat right by the pianist and the music was great, not too loud at all. We will be back.

    Excellent with one exception. Hostess with short blind hair was lovely and welcoming. The other hostess was off putting and did not make us feel valued. All servers Excellent. Sorry to share this. HR issue.

    Came here to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary with my family. I asked to be seated by the pianist and with a view and it was well delivered! Food and drinks were phenomenal! For starters we had soup and salads. Very crisp and light. For our entrees, we all ordered filet mignon. Very delicious with the side of fresh vegetables. We had desserts and as my daughter says “that was the best Crème Brûlée I’ve had” it wasn’t too sweet, it was just perfect sweet! We would definitely come back! Thank you La Fayette for making our anniversary dinner night memorable!

    Chef Nicolas Legret may very well be the best in DC. His food — presented artfully and exquisitely flavored — is not to be missed. The ambiance, heightened by an exceptional pianist, would only benefit from an evening wait staff that’s as cheerful and attentive as the morning team.
