This place never disappoints. It's our hands down favorite when we entertain out of town guests.
Overall we had an average experience. The decor and ambiance is elegant. However, as other reviewers have mentioned, the food was mediocre at best. We likely wouldn't return.
My husband's mother flew into DC from Little Rock. She's very particular, and I wanted to wow her. Score! She could not find one thing to complain about here. Service, ambience, valet parking, food all equisite. Our server recommended the specials: ginger carrot soup and sea bass. What a perfectly delightful lunch.
Mother-daughter trip to Washington to celebrate daughter’s 41st birthday. Elegant surroundings, attentive service and delicious food! The piano player even played “Happy Birthday” when the waiter brought out her special birthday dessert.
The Lafayette was spectacular. Food was amazing, ambiance was phenomenal (credit to the pianist), and service was incredible - shoutout to Anthony our waiter and the wonderful woman from Spain at the Concierge/Reception desk! This was a special dinner date and I could not have been happier. 10/10 would recommend!
Beautiful elegant dining room and perfect attentive service. The food however was a disappointment. Bland. Uninteresting and expensive. 4 diners. 4 different meals (appetizer, main and desert). That is 12 different items and not one rave review.
Lafayette was billed on reviews as a "view" restaurant. While on Lafayette Square, there is no view. It is a decent but not in any way special hotel restaurant. Good service and nice food but just not special. On a Friday night relatively few diners and our table was in middle of room next to room they were setting up for a buffet breakfast. Piano was a nice idea but way too loud. decor of restaurant needs updating. Restaurant probably very nice for breakfast but not for lunch or dinner unless you are staying at hotel and looking for convenience. But, service was excellent once we got to our table.
Excellent place for business lunches, quiet, great room, great food, great service !
Amazing location and outstanding food as well as service.
When I got my main dish, it was a little bit to cold but immediately they take it away and served a complete new main dish.
Fine dining at its best. Meal offerings were superb and the ambience was an absolute classic. Can’t wait to return to the DC area to experience The Lafayette again
I decided to take my mother to this establishment for her birthday because she requested brunch for her birthday and her birthday fell on a weekday this year. This restaurant was one of the very few that had brunch items she would actually eat. Upon entering the hotel, the establishment is absolutely breathtaking. Beautiful decor and the staff welcomes you from the time you get out of your vehicle. Upon entering the restaurant, we were seated near a window and I informed the staff that it was her birthday as listed in the reservation. They came and gave her extra items from bakery (complimentary) to start. We ordered our food and our dishes were exquisite. Beautifully plated and absolutely delicious. Towards the end of our meal, they brought her a birthday dessert and sung Happy Birthday to her (even called her Ms. America, absolutely adorable). My mother thoroughly enjoyed herself and she said she felt like a queen. She told her friends of her experience and now this restaurant in on their restaurant list of places to visit. Thank you so much for your stellar customer experience and I will definitely will attend again and let others know of this exceptional experience.
A superb choice for Sunday brunch. The Lafayette offers a classic and formal atmosphere with a diverse menu of very well prepared food. The bagel with smoked salmon (lox) was fresh and delicious and had all of the classic accompaniments. The corned beef hash was obviously housemade (not the run of the mill ground up diner fare) with perfectly poached eggs. Juices and coffee were fresh and delicious as well. Highly recommend the Lafayette.
Everything morsel, and everything else—from the pianist to to setting to the service—was absolutely wonderful!
It was a delightful experience in every way!
Really lovely place for breakfast with friends or business. Food is excellent and so is the staff. I love that they serve breakfast on Wedgwood china! A touch of luxury in the heart of the bustling city!
This is a fantastic restaurant for a social or business meeting. Piano quietly in background makes it elegant.
Simply exceptional. Elegant dining in a magnificent setting
I was there as a single person, celebrating a private anniversary, the waiter/server came over and
said he'd be a few minutes, it was 15 actually. When I did not order a cocktail or wine, that was the
first clue ($$). The food was delicious and promptly delivered. The waiter NEVER came back to check
on me or ask how things were. The busman was excellent & attentive. The piano player was terrific, as
I was seated by him. Other waiters were most attentive to their diners. I felt discriminated against.
(White senior gay male in coat & tie.) I finally had to ask the hostess to find my waiter (she corrected me "server"), as I'd like dessert. Which was a mistake, I should have asked for the check & left. --- Meanwhile
the others were turning over the tables for breakfast which was unpleasant. I had an 8 pm reservation on Saturday, September 7th. I shall be writing a letter to management. By the way, the restaurant was less than half full. It was a disappointing experience. I am from out of state. --- Thank you.
Delicious food; excellent presentation; professional and perceptive service and personable attention. The only drawback was annoying little bugs flying around - fruit flies?
Great food and service
Lafayette has been one of my favorite DC restaurants for many years. Through countless business breakfasts and lunches, I always feel welcomed by the staff and gratified by how the setting facilitates productive discussions and warm feelings among my guests. My wife and I also live the splendid Sunday champagne brunch (recommend especially the lobster omelet!). The staff is superb across the board — flawless professionalism combined with special personal touches.
Unbelievable staff and quality food. The best! Staff was great with the kids and corn beef hash, crab benedict, and pastries were just fabulous!
Wonderful breakfast! Enjoyed the food, the impeccable service, beautiful table setting and the view of The White House!
We had yet another great experience at Lafayette! Thanks! Eric, Jose and the wait staff were welcoming and awesome as always. Your concierge, Franziska (I think I botched the spelling.) was so kind and welcoming, as well. We entertain a good number of out of town guests, and we love watching their reaction to the food and hospitality at Lafayette and the Hay-Adams. Thanks, and we'll be back.....a lot;)
The atmosphere was very serene, the service and food amazing. It was my boyfriend's birthday and they gave us a complimentary dessert that was delicious. Definitely recommend for a nice evening out.
This level of elegance is hard to find. The meal, waiter and ambience were top notch. I could have stayed all day!
Wonderful in all ways!
Eli and Anthony never disappoint. Exceptional Service !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A prized Washington institution! The atmosphere harkens to another era.
I was very pleased with everything, there is no doubt Lafayette Restaurant is a five stars. I will definitely come back with other friends.
What a delicious lunch I enjoyed last week! My friend and I enjoyed every bite!
The food was so flavorful and the service and ambiance was impeccable. The hotel location was very convenient for us as we had an earlier appointment across the street.
We will definitely be back for another lunch experience.
Wonderful splurge for brunch. Would definitely go back.
This is my favorite Sunday brunch in the city, the pianist is the cherry on top of the fantastic service, great food, and classy atmosphere. I'll keep coming back!
It was amazing as always. Our server Clarence was outstanding!
Our server, Gregory, was especially attentive and the food was very good. Loved the atmosphere and how quickly we were seated.
First impression as one enters is classic Washington elegance, which I guess one should expect from the Hay-Adams. Service is charming, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Food was excellent (venison galantine to start, pappardelle with lamb ragu to follow), if a bit too abundant, but that's true in almost all Washington restaurants in my experience. Also, the sound level is perfect for conversation and, as we were visiting to see relatives we hadn't seen in a while, was just what we wanted. All in all, very satisfying.
Amazing as always. Emanuel made the experience special.
Exceptional experience. Piano player added to an outstanding evening. Food was very good. Highly recommend.
Amazing Amazing Amazing! The ambiance is spectacular and the service was beyond great. Food was even better
Absolutely no place to combine’s history, atmosphere, the Who’s Who, and quiet
