The crab cakes and scallops and chicken salad were exceptional. This is what I would consider a caring restaurant: they care for the quality of their product, how the diner feels and how all of that is delivered to the table -- a great experience all around. What could have been better is having your pianist play the silent Steinway as background music to add the treasure of his music along with such a delightful dining experience. Denis Casper is one of the top pianists in the District! Why not present him at such a beautiful lunch occasion. Bob Pajer
Great time close to the White House to start the trip off great!!
First class service by a professional wait staff. Attentive service with classically prepared food. Delicious. Highly recommended!
Lafayette has it all- fabulous food and ambiance with impeccable staff.
Very interesting and delicious food. Our waitress was very efficient, gracious, and friendly. The other staff were also very friendly.
Christmas Brunch after our White House tour was absolutely perfect at this iconic spot. The decadent menu had many great options and the deserts were amazing!
Crab cakes were excellent!
Wonderful evening! Delicious food.
What a wonderful dinner.Wonderful atmosphere.Definitely a special night.
Outstanding service. Caring staff. Plush accommodations. Will return.
Great service, good food, weak wine list for a restaurant of this caliber.
Absolutely wonderful dining experience...
Anthony was amazing....can’t wait to return....
We always love going to the Lafayette Restaurant. The quality of the food is guaranteed to be good and the atmosphere is elegant. Our server, Clarence, is now a friend. He makes every visit a special occasion.
Truly wonderful dining experience......great waiter....
Truly magical setting for our anniversary dinner. Beautiful place, amazing vegan-friendly dinner, and across the street from the White House!
Wonderful setting across from the park in a grand hotel. Outstanding service that is a forgotten art. Food was flavorful and nicely presented. I will certainly return!
We had a lovely time at this elegant restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was first-rate. Because the trees obscured the view of Lafayette Park and the White House, one of the staff escorted us to a balcony off the 9th floor after we finished our lunch. The view of the White House and the Executive Office Building with the Washington Monument in the background was a postcard perfect picture. Afterward she took us to the bar downstairs where the walls were covered with caricatures of Washington's elite. We left with a gift of coasters of some of the best drawings. It was a perfect day and I was very pleased that my out of town guest was able to share this experience with me. Yes, the lunch was expensive, but the memory was worth every cent.
Elegant setting at the Hay Adams Hotel. Wonderful prepared meals and great service.
Perfect for special occasion.
It is a great, quiet, romantic restaurant. It’s the type of place to go to impress a date, propose to someone, or celebrate an anniversary (why I was there).
There was a nice piano playing for ambience.
It was a beautiful and fancied appointed restaurant, with a view of the White House from certain tables.
The service was very nice and seemed to be willing to be silent or charming depending on the diners’ needs.
We had the best time! Ernesto was fabulous and couldn’t have been more helpful... one of the best nights in DC
Excellent food. Excellent service. Absolutely beautiful! Highly recommend for a romantic evening
Excellent restaurant, great experience, wait staff a pleasure, especially Geovanny.
Service was appropriately engaged, dover sole was well prepared.
We have been there many times and have always been more than satisfied
Staying at the Hay is always a joy, so is eating there. Dinner and breakfast wonderful. Not cheap, but very delightful. Cozy, quiet and elegant.
Underwhelming experience. We will not return. We had the beet salad which was good, the grilled octopus was ok, the rack of lamb was good. The highlight was the raspberry soufflé.
Great high-end breakfast meeting location.
The food and service were wonderful.
A bit overrated in terms of luxury and ambience but very good food. The waiter got me the bill without even asking for it, i’ve been only there for half an hour, I did finish my food, but I wasn’t ready to leave, guess that was the wait for him to ask me to leave for whatever reason.
We were staying at the Hay-Adams and decided to make a reservation for dinner here to avoid having to go out. We were certainly happy that we did. The food was all excellent and the service was superb. Well worth the visit.
Went for birthday with family.
1. Bread basket had a variety but it wasn’t warm and fresh. Bread was cold.
2. Octopus (appetizer) was very bland. Had no salt and spices.
3. Dover sole was really good...but overpriced.
4. Lamb rack was good and made to perfection.
Overall, a decent experience. Server was nice and friendly. Food was pricey. For the same amount, I have had much better food and Service.
Usually such places offer some token of appreciation for celebration, but I was surprised there was none offered.
The buffet of starters for the brunch was excellent. I could have stopped there and we should have. Our two year old granddaughter was not entertained by the waiters silently gliding bye. No excitement to entertain her. The service for the main course, which was also very good, was very slow. Be prepared to stay a while.
The service was spectacular! And the pianist was perfect. Great way to spend an evening.
Couldn’t be better
A perfect DC location for breakfast. A higher rating would have been given if the staff were more excited about the food on offer and talked it through more clearly with their international guests.
Dining as it should be. Elegant and refined with attentive, impeccable service.
Typical hotel breakfast though a very busy location.
The Lafayette Restaurant of the Hay-Adams House is my favorite place to celebrate special occasions and to entertain out-of-town guests. Its historic location, beautiful appointments, excellent service, elegant ambiance --and valet parking--are the reasons for my choice.
Wonderful service and delicious food.
The Lafayette restaurant inside the Hay Adams hotel was a wonderful experience. Definitely more of a special occasion night out as it is expensive. Staff was attentive and friendly and food very well done.
