Went for Easter dinner. Had reservations. Seated immediately. Waitress was pleasant and accommodating. Combination of meals selected included Baked stuffed shrimp, filet mignon, and baked ham. Salad and dressing was nice and fresh, with hot rolls and butter. Everyone more than satisfied with portions and taste. Dessert was scrumptious. Carrot cake, cheese cake and chocolate cake were the selected choices by our guests.
I thoroughly viewed the website for Lafayette House before making a reservation for Easter dinner. There was no special menu listed on the website. I spoke to the hostess when confirming the reservation and she didn't mention that there would be anything different on Easter Sunday when we chatted. So I was extremely disappointed to learn that my 1:00 reservation would only be able to have a Brunch Buffet. It was NOT what we were looking forward to. Instead we had filet mignon in mind for our meal. To say I was quite unhappy is an understatement. Not to mention the cost $38.00 was really ridiculous for eggs and bacon. We really had no other option as we would never have gotten a seat in another restaurant without a reservation so we reluctantly stayed. The food was very good Thank Goodness! The freshly prepared to order omelet I had was exceptional. But I would suggest that they post the Holiday Menus and brunches on their website in the future.
My family and I went there for Easter brunch. The buffet was fabulous. So many delicious choices. The only thing better was the fantastic and friendly server Charlene. Thank you for a great holiday!
Easter Brunch. The food was excellent. Not so excellent was the added top of 20% because of our party size. For starters, the waitress was very unfriendly and was very inattentive. Secondly, for a buffet where you serve yourself there should not have been an added tip. We, as the customers, should have had that decision. My empty plate sat while everyone else had theirs removed. One tiny lithe creamer container remained after asking for extra cream. These are just two examples. Overall, though, the food was very good.
The food was awful and the service was comically bad.
wonderful Easter buffet. The decor was very festive and the food was so good it was hard to decide what to try next.
Great food and service!
Very nice great food and service. Generous portiins
we ordered House Specialties only to be told that they were supposed to be removed form the menu. Machine's were broken and the soda was flat. this isn't he place it used to be. I would not recommend!
This restaurant is back to it's old glory days.
The last few times I have been her were awesome.
The food was good (not gourmet but very tasty) and the portions were generous. We live in Boston and selected this restaurant because we were meeting friends from Rhode Island, so it was about the same distance away for them and us. I'm not sure I'd drive that far to go there otherwise.
I had the prime rib, which was a good cut but somewhat fatty. My wife had the filet mignon which was very tasty and prepared perfectly for her. Side dishes, potatoes and butternut squash were quite good as well. The dessert was disappointing as I had the chocolate mousse which was basically chocolate pudding. Overall, experience was good and a must for anyone who enjoys eating at an old New England restaurant circa 1780.
Bar scene the night after St Patrick's Day was very animated. The "Well Room", however, was very peaceful and perfect for celebrating ny wife's birthday. The server, Lannie, was very accommodating. She was timely but not intrusive taking our orders for drinks and entrees in a very friendly but relaxed manner. The servings were diverse, ample, tasty and well defined. The presentation was fairly ordinary. I first went to the L House some 55 years ago. Each time it has captured the moment.
While food was very good, the menu was limited.Unfortunatly several items were not available The prime rib was only medium or well. They substituted a filet which was good but not what I had wanted. I would return
We haven't been here in a while. It was very good.
I enjoyed the dinner and the restaurant. The service was excellent and the server was friendly and very good at her job. The food was very good and the presentation was excellent. It was a bit pricy, but the quality was excellent. I will be back soon. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.
Beautiful old carriage house restaurant form the late 1700's. Gas fireplace. Prices are fair to expensive but worth the money. You start with cheese and crackers then there is fresh baked bread. Portions are adequate to large. My Husband had the fried whole clams which were on special. Good portion for $17.00 with potato and veggie. I had a chicken sandwich with mustard sauce and potato. Every thing ketchup, vinegar is brought in individual portions not bottles. A nod to the nicer side. Service was attentive even though restaurant was busy. Lovely banquet room for small groups with wonderful windows although not much of a view as you are just off highway 1. Even thought place is quiet. Small bar area with TV can order same menu there. Very close to Patriots place with easy access and good prking can enter thru bar or restaurant alcove area. I love this place!!
Went again to this great restaurant and both the food and service was "outstanding".
Lorie is the Hostess on weekends and our favorite waitress was in attendance which made it just great. Ask for Linda she is the best.
We both had the clam chowder $4.00 a bowl along with beautiful fresh made rolls and whipped butter.
Salad came with the meals my wife had the Salmon and I had the Short Ribs.
Do try to go to this fine eatery yourself.
Tip (Baked Potatoes come baked in Sea Salt ) order the oven roasted potatoes or ask for a baked without the salt if you do not want it the sea salt.
Remember Lori hostess & Mary wait staff. (You will not be disappointed)
We were anxious to meet friends at Lafayette House for lunch since we had not been there for many years. We were a little disappointed because the food was just "fair".
We loved the early American feel about the place. On this particular day, there were very few customers - actually - we saw only one other table being occupied in another room. The 'greeter' wasn't very sociable but did show us to our area (take any table). The wait staff was friendly, offered drinks, bread and took our soup and salad order. The clam chowder was excellent as was bread.
The prime rib and filet was pretty tasteless as were the green beans. The baked potato - okay. We would probably not be coming back for a few years - until things improve, food-wise.
You can't help but feel the history in the restaurant. The menu has a wide range and the good is great.
Staff was very pleasant, restaurant was clean and food was excellent. Will definitely return.
We had a wonderful dinner at the Lafayette House. The warm bread was delicious, the house salad dressing was yummy, the prime rib was excellent, as was the salmon topped with crabmeat!
We splurged on an after-dinner drink and chocolate & caramel torte, which were both wonderful. The building dates from the 1700's and is fun to explore! The service was excellent and friendly -- we will be back!!
It was pleasant all around. While the portions aren't king sized, there was still plenty of it and it was very delicious.
Went for Valentine's Day with my wife and enjoyed every minute. I had the prime rib and she had the filet with lobster tail and both were amazing
We love the Lafayette House. The food is
excellent, service is great and ambiance is perfect. Great place for a date night or anniversary.
Nice atmosphere and the food was good. But the service was slow. We were seated right away, but had to wait about 1/2 hour before our order was taken and over an hour for food. People that came after us were eating dessert before we got served our entree.
I love the coziness of this restaurant! Beautiful place to eat on a winter night. The wait staff is very professional and prompt . The food is good although my filet was a bit over done. They have a very decent wine selection. A very nice place to go on a date or for a special occasion.
Went to Lafayette House Saturday night. The reservations were for 7:00 PM and we were seated promptly a when we arrived at 6:45. We found the food to be very good as well as the service. My wife had scallops and I had the bone-in roast beef. Delicious and plenty of it; we both brought home leftovers. If there was a criticism my wife found the blue cheese salad dressing a little too loose. We were seated next to a table of six that was a little noisy. I would recommend the Lafayette House and we plan to return.
Our 1st impression was it was a nice quaint place. They sat us right next to bus station so I got a view of dirty dishes. I ordered a martini orange dream that I could drink and waitress didn't offer to replace it. Good was ok. We will not be returning
My chicken dish was disappointing. The lemon sauce was very watery and not tasty. Everyone else enjoyed their meals. Loved the fireplace and service.
We had calamari, chicken fingers, prime rib all of which were excellent. The salad with steak tips was disappointing as the tomatoes were old, wrinkled and almost sour. The steak tips were very gristly and tough to chew.
Still decorated for Christmas and very pretty.
We were in dining room alone, so it was quiet.
The service was good.
would go back in a second
had a great time will be going back. food was fantastic, serve staff great.
Very disappointed. Steak was improperly cooked, they were out of prime rib and even the chicken dish was poor. I will not return.
My friends and I gathered for a late Christmas lunch and enjoyed the food and the ambiance very much. The decorations were beautiful and the food selections plentiful. We will be back.
started with a Shrimp Cocktail and after the first bite my thought was if dinner is at least half as tasty it will be a great night. We were not disappointed. I had the braised beef and had to savor every bite it was so good. My wife had the baked stuffed shrimp, the only thing tastier than the shrimp was the stuffing. Atmosphere was delightful. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised and will definitely return
Outstanding! We had reservations at 8:00PM on New Years Eve, we got there at 7:50 and were promptly seated. Our server Judy, was attentive and always there when we needed something. The food was delicious and was cooked exactly the way we ordered it. I highly recommend The Lafayette House and will be returning soon.
We went here on New Year's Eve -had the worst experience ever-drinks were horrible-had a groupon that online gave blackout dates-new years eve wasn't one of them-went to our table and on the way saw a cheesy hand written sign saying they weren't accepting groupons-so I asked to speak to the manager-she was very rude (woman with short dark hair) I was a restaurant manager for 5 years would never have talked to a customer like that-we finished our drinks and left-wont ever be going back!! Didn't even want to give it one star!!! Horrible customer service!!
There was no "atmosphere" or ambience!! This was New Year's Eve--the room was brightly lit, showing the worn carpeting on top of that. Online said there would be free music in the bar, and there was NO music all night. They need to pull out that worn carpet, shine up those wide plank floors, put candles on the table and candle light on the walls, and let this place be what it's meant to be--a really old cozy tavern. To be fair, my friend had a filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly and my lobster was good. The men's veal looked like a big glob! My husband ate about four bites. DON'T ORDER THE VEAL!
