Lafayette House Ratings and Reviews
Kayla was our server. She was wonderful. This was the first time we have dined out for Thanksgiving Dinner. She made the experience very personable. Her sweet personality came through and, even though the restaurant was busy, she made us feel as if we were the only diners there.
Thanksgiving the prices were inflated, noise level was very high, and waitress was pleasant, but overworked. The host was very stressed, due to the busy day. Reservations were running 15 minutes late, and request for a quiet side table ( for 3) was not honored. Salad was stale.
I had requested through Open Table that there were Vegetarian options for myself. There was only one, roasted vegetables. That was alright, but to than charge us for two classic Thanksgiving dinners ($32 each) and be told by our waitress "that was what I was told to charge you" is unacceptable. Obviously, we were not going to pay that amount at which point the waitress abruptly scooped up the check to make the change. We realize she and the restaurant was quite busy that day, but I was disappointed that a restaurant of their caliber would try to "stick it" to consumers that way. Needless to say, we will not be dining there again.
The Lafayette House was built in 1785...nine years after the American Revolution...for that reason alone...go there. Very good food, terrific ambiance, excellent service. We went for Thanksgiving dinner, but wound up ordering shrimp and steak. Both very good. It was a full house, but didn't feel crowded...it felt nice, warm and friendly. I made reservations and was readily seated. We even met the proprietor - great guy Ron - can't recall his last name. Highly recommend this gem.
Don't bother. This had to be the worst meal I've had in a very long time. Completely overpriced. My husband had to send back his meal because it wasn't cooked properly and then only took 2 bites. He NEVER does this. Menu on Open Table was nothing like the actual menu. I was hoping for Yankee Pot Roast at $19 and had to go with Short Ribs for $28 which were ALL fat. What a waste of money. The only people who seem to like it here are older people. So if you're under the age of 55, I would highly recommend skipping this place. So many better places to go that are nearby.
We (my girlfriend and I) made our reservations for 7pm on Saturday 9/9. We got there and were seated right away. People came in after us and were seated behind us and were given attention to before we even saw our waitress. Our waitress ended up being the same waitress as the people that came in after us and were being served before us.
To make a long story short, we only saw our waitress once every 20 minutes (from what I could see, she only had two tables) so why on earth would it take so long to get to us.
Clam chowder came out COLD.. had to send back .. my girlfriends seafood dish came out cold and my baked potato was cold. We would of sent it back but it took over an hour to get our food ordered and brought to us.
So we didn’t dare send it back and have to wait another hour to get our food back.
The people that came in after us, also had their food cooked wrong and sent it back.
So all in all, it was not a pleasant experience. It was our first time (and last time) going there, so maybe it was just an off night for them. But for the price they charge EVERYTHING should be perferct.
Stopped in prior to a show at Gillette, the parking is great, the restaurant was air conditioned and the service was very good. I enjoyed the salad (wedge) and shared that, along with the chicken salad wrap with a friend, plenty of pre-show lunch. Easy walk to the venue afterward and easy out onto Route 1 for the trip home. I would visit again for a leisurely lunch or romantic dinner. Charming, old decor
After passing by the Lafayette House for years, I finally decided to return to this childhood favorite where my parents would bring family and friends. I was impressed! Why haven't I come here more often? The price is right, food is served in three different areas, each is comfortable.
Quiet enough for conversations. Food was great; everyone liked their choice. I had a Cabrese salad with chicken. It was fantastic. The children was cooked perfectly, moist and tender.
We went for dinner on a Sunday night at 8pm. They were surprised to see us, informed us the dining room was closed, we could be seated in the bar, the kitchen was about to close, and would we hurry and order. Can't say we felt very welcome. Menu was limited and food was average.
LaFayette House is an Historic Institution, I had eaten there 3X in the past and always thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Had planned a dinner there for my Great Niece's 21st Birthday. I went to Open Table to set up reservation and read some reviews while there. Was totally surprised to read so many negative reviews, was frightened that things had changed since my last time there. NOT AT ALL! Everything was just as wonderful as it always has been!
2 in our party asked to split the house specialty, Tournados Lafayette, NO PROBLEM. They split it in the kitchen and delivered it to the table on 2 separate plates AND they each got their own salad! 2 others opted for Filet Mignon, so tasty and tender! Was offered with baked but we both preferred Roasted Potatoes and that's what we got, no problem. The last of our party wanted the cheeseburger, cooked perfectly. Have no idea where those folks who insulted this Magnificent Location usually go to eat but they were absolutely wrong in their review of Lafayette House. Cannot wait to go there again!! Sooner rather than later!
Hadn't been to the restaurant in a while, only the pub. Remember it as being really good for a special occasion. I ordered a medium steak and it came out rare. No one from the kitchen stayed while I cut into it to check how it was cooked. Our waitress took it back and the kitchen fixed it. Overall the food was quite good. Our waitress was nice, and she didn't have many tables, but everything was very slow. We had to wait a long time for our drinks to begin the meal. After that she reappeared occasionally but everything took a long time. The worst was waiting for the check at the end of the meal. We asked three times for the check and she claimed there was a problem with the computer. For the price of our meal I expected much better service. I doubt that I would recommend the restaurant to a friend for a special occasion.
We were there with the family to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. We had a round table in a room by ourselves so it was very relaxing and quiet for conversation. Everyone loved their meals. My mother had the teriyaki salmon which she had once before when I took her about a year ago. Our server was wonderful. She was attentive yet not overly so. We had a wonderful time and we will be back again at some point for another meal. Thank you to the Lafayette House for a very memorable and enjoyable event.
We made reservations a few days in advance. The day of I called to ask how far away the restaurant was from the Gillette Stadium as there was a special event at the stadium and I was trying to plan travel time. We arrived at the parking lot of the restaurant only to be told by the attendants that they were charging $50.00 to park even though we were just there for dinner. No matter its $50.00 to park regardless of what my plans were. No advance notice given though the parking attendant said we should have received a call since we had reservations to inform us of this circumstance. Sadly I called them and the man who answered did NOT have the decency to inform me of the parking situation. I've never eaten here and am NOT inclined to consider it in the future.
I am sorry but the Lafayette house was not good this past visit . I ordered Filet Mignon . Waitress said it came with roasted potatoes & green beans . Asked for a different vegetable, she offered Broccoli, wonderful! No I received a not good quality, nor tasting sirloin steak , baked potato & green beans . Waitress was hard to grab even though she only had 2 tables . My husbands Prime Rib was very little eadible meat . We told her & she just shrugged it off . Last time buying a Groupon for this restaurant. Not a good deal when food is not good
Your restaurant was recomended at a charity auction. We bid on the certificate to support the charity and to look forward to a special occasion to use it on. We did. Our 33rd wedding annivesary. In brief, the wait staff was pleasant yet the overall professional appearance was lacking and too much time elapsed between taking the entire order. Unfortunateky for us, all the recomendations made by the staff fell short of expectations in both apperance and flavor. I prefer an honest wait staff that doesn't come off as patronizing in greater favor to the menu than it really deserves (the menu items that were recomended as "I felt the same way but the stuff here changed my mind..."). The food was fine but not worth the price. The house special scallop appetizer was disappointing, (the fishy flavor could not be overcome, not even by the burnt, thick, and oversized bacon slices). My wife enjoys french onion soup and we've had fun sampling soups from all over but we've never found one made with bayleaf until yours (her soup had one). Not as appetizing as you think. The salad was a salad. Nothing special, not even the presentation. The prime rib was as advertized. It had a huge bone and was quite thick and my wife did enjoy that part. That was the only thing. My meal of filet with lobster tail fell far short of my expectations. (The wait staff did not bother to trim the tail from the shell prior to wrapping leftovers.) I don't expect to bring leftovers home. We just did not enjoy the food as much as we thought we would but since we spent that much for dinner, at least we could give our pets the remains. Our cats turned up their noses at the scallops too. So, in short, I would not recommend your restaurant to my friends. The food was decent but not worth the price and the plate presentation was overdone. The mousse was not light and airy as I would have expected, but heavy and overly thick which smothered any flavor. Overall we had a mediocre experience at a high end price.
Character of house is amazing, history of George Washington & Ben franklin as past visitors. Service was attentive & friendly. Scrod was almost inedible but at least I tried it. Breading was just placed on top instead of baked and no flavor to the fish. Husbands prime rib portion was enormous, generous helping of meat of which he devoured.
All food items were nicely presented, perfect temp, and very tasteful. The wait staff had nice interactions yet not overbearing. The timing of various courses allowed for conversation. I would NOT recommend the dining room if you are in a hurry. , and we were not, so the almost two hour lunch(with appetizers, dessert and coffee) was perfect.
Venerable institution, but don't visit when there is an event at Foxboro stadium. I was in an airport ready to board a flight two days earlier when I saw that my reservation had been canceled. We I called to speak to the manager, he said he canceled the reservation, so I would call him and that he was confirming and letting me know about a concert in the vicinity. He said that he cancels reservations to get people to call him back. I said that I thought that rather aggressive action, might dissuade dinners from eating there. We did manage to rebook the reservation, before the boarding door was closed! When we got to the restaurant, we learned we were the only reservation that evening. The restaurant was out of champagne, despite listing 7 on it's wine list. Our group of 5 was celebrating a special occasion. We were seating in an empty rook in which two mismatched tables were put together to seat 5, making for cramped quarters with the other (empty) table. We asked about a round table in an adjacent dining room that was set for 5, but were told we could not sit there. The service was slow and disjointed. Fortunately my family has a good sense of humor and the food was good and abundant, so we made the most of a rather bad situation. I think the management and waitstaff have a lot of work to do to live up to the great food and physical spaces of the restaurant.
We had a reservation for 10 on mother's day. They sat us in an addition that was set up like a wedding with round tables...but bright with no ambiance. There was a fixed (very limited) menu, which I wasn't aware of. Then they were out of prime rib. Kids only had one option (chicken fingers and fries). There was confusion over who was supposed to wait on us (uncomfortable to overhear the disagreement). Overall, I was very disappointed.
Food was cooked perfectly. It was mothers day so the choices were set and everyone enjoyed it. my only complaint is don't limit the salad dressing, yes I am being fussy, but seriously it's dressing and if you're billing me for a salad I should be allowed dressing I like.
The menu was limited as it was Mothers Day. There was no mention of that on their website. Luckily we were all able to find something we would eat. There were 10 of us. They sat us at an 8 person table and squeezed two more chairs in. The wait staff was rude. Two members of our party are former waitresses and were appalled at how we were being treated. I get that it's a busy day but they made me feel as if I was a burden. I have been there before and have gotten attitude but I thought I would give it another go. No more for me. Too bad because the food is actually good.
