Everything was outstanding: service, food & space. Will absolutely return here regularly!
Best show ever. Do yourself a favor — run don’t ask to it.
Lovely surroundings and great selection of food. It is a LOT of food for afternoon tea so come hungry! Service and tea selection were excellent.
Really enjoyable afternoon tea experience. The atmosphere is very quaint. The tea and food service was very great. I loved everything.
A wonderful afternoon for tea and delicious treats!!
Darling! I took my 13-year-old daughter here and we had a wonderful time. The food was actually delicious, but I’m not a fan of finger sandwiches or I would’ve given it five stars.
We went for the Thursday night 1880's salon themed show and really enjoyed ourselves. It is held above Cibar, in a restored Victorian townhouse. Very laid back friendly atmosphere where even the staff appeared to be having fun. 2 drink minimum with small bar food selection. You may have to eat elsewhere a second time that night for a full meal. We arrived early and enjoyed some live music in Cibar before heading upstairs. There is no charge for the entertainment but you can leave some cash in an envelope provided or Venmo some funds. It was a nice relaxed way to enjoy the company of others on a Thursday night. We will go back!!!
NOT Recommended! I've never posted a review, but I cannot let this one go. I owe it to all of you to share my experience. It started with a server who was so incomprehensible, none of us bothered to ask them to repeat themselves. Tea cups were dirty, I had to ask for clean ones. The entire crockery was so faded and worn, it was disgusting to use. They have a set menu, but one that is undisclosed?! That is unheard of with blatant disregard to options, possible allergens or reasonable substitutions/ eliminations. An informative menu sheet for the day could have been useful, but I suppose that was too much for a place trying to get by with as little effort as possible. Finger sandwiches were mediocre at best with enough for 3 people despite being a party of 4! Yes, I counted, and asked politely whether the serving plate was meant for the whole table. The response was that there was a charge for any extra, so the ignorance was clear. It is only logical to include a number of servings that is calculated as a multiple of the number of people, especially when paying per person not per plate. Also, do not be fooled, they did NOT serve clotted cream with the itty bitty scones- it was store bought cream cheese pushed into a mini jar. Attempting to spread it was not worth the effort. The entire course was predominantly sweet and utterly disappointing. The setting was unique, but lacked elegance and was more akin to a flea market or forgotten attic than a vintage tea salon. So underwhelming and overpriced, I wouldn't go again if they paid me. NEVER AGAIN!
Elegant and decadent tea spot, perfect for a special occasion.
This was my first afternoon tea. Beautiful place, service was excellent, tea was great. Wide variety of quality food. We had a great time!
Wonderful way to share an afternoon! Excellent service, food, and ambiance.
Tanzy was a charming and wonderful host. Can't wait to attend another Thursday.
I visit many restaurants for high tea all over the world. This was one of my favorites. Many different varieties of finger sandwiches and more food than you can eat in one sitting. We had a large amount of Leftovers to take home to enjoy later. The service and atmosphere was lovely and I will definitely be back.
I have always had a fantastic time here. They are attentive, the tea service is perfect, and the setting is beautiful. I can’t wait to come back!
What a lovely afternoon! The setting was beautiful , the service impeccable and the tea service was delicious! Well done! I will return again. Good for a lunch with a friend or a bridal party!
From the time we walked in the door, we were greeted with a quaint late 1900's backdrop. The woodwork, architecture and Victorian décor inside of this brownstone was beautiful. There were several fireplaces which I am sure are great in the colder months. To then top it off with a few mimosas and high tea service? Priceless. We were warmly greeted and shown to our seats which were all unique in their own way. I found the atmosphere comfortable and not overly stuffy as we were casually dressed. I am a very good cook so I am very picky when it comes to food. The food here was phenomenal (I would love the squash on crostini recipe). We were offered several different types of tea. The toasted coconut was our favorite. The dishes and tea cups were really pretty and exactly what I imagined it would be as this was our first tea away from home. The atmosphere was light and the jazz type music was very relaxing in the background but not overpowering. The service was on point. As soon as you were done, there was a server there to take plates, bring tea and offer the next course. You were not rushed at all to finish. I absolutely was comfortably stuffed when leaving. The price was very reasonable. When in New York, this is an absolute must experience.
Thank you Lady Mendl for the excellent experience.
My time at Lady Mendl’s was absolutely exquisite. The hostess and waitstaff were friendly and accommodating. The tea, savories, and sweets were truly a delight. I am so happy I was able to return to the city and Lady Mendl’s and receive such a warm welcome.
Elegant tea. Service was attentive and gracious. Food is sublime.
Highly recommend this tea house for a lovely afternoon tea. The service was on point and the food /tea was delicious. The decor was impressive - reminds me of my stay in London.
Best night out !! Show was classy and fun!!
Such a gorgeous tea!
Beautiful location, good to very good food. Noisy at times for afternoon tea, service was adequate to fine. Bill for 4 people pre fix menu and 2 drinks, including tip was $375. For the price, food, service, noise level and cleanliness of the bathroom should have been at least a little better. Lovely setting and had nice time, just would have expected a little more for the money.
Amazing experience! Such a wonderful afternoon. Would definitely come back!
Calming, refreshing and enjoyable. Being able to have conversation without blasting music. Beautiful setting and wonderful staff.
Delicious food and teas. I would highly recommend a trip to this wonderful tea shop.
Great overall experience. Would come back highly recommend.
I wanted to take my daughter to Lady Mendls for a very long time . All the great reviews I read and everyone was fussing about this place. What a great disappointment! We were there during the restaurant week and they had a prefix menu. Maybe that was the reason, but the food was less than desirable. Not sure how you can screw up the tea sandwiches, but they were uneatable . Dry, stale bread, and absolutely no flavor. Tea selection wasn’t great either, watery mess. Scones and crepe cake are the only two things that we enjoyed.
Service was good and we liked the interior.
Next time I decide to pay $200 for lunch, I’ll book at The Plaza hotel.
Love the charm and atmosphere of Lady Mendls. I've been here twice and plan on coming back again.
Absolutely loved everything about this place but the food was very subpar. The scones and macaroons were excellent, but not much else, including the tea. English Breakfast needed to be much stronger and I wish there was just a bigger tea selection in general. You had you basic English breakfast and Earl Gray, oolong which was coconut flavored, then 2 decaf teas: The sandwiches consisted of stale, hard bread and little filling. The salad was a seasonal watermelon and half of mine was the very pale, least tasting meat of the melon. The crepe cakes were from Lady M, which is fine, but I suppose I just rather have something more homemade and tasty at such a place as this. Everything else was simply lovely.
We celebrated a family birthday. Everything was fabulous from beginning to end. Highly recommend.
The setting is lovely, dishes beautiful, atmosphere quiet and adult. Friendly staff could use more formal training on serving - teapots over plates is not appropriate. First course is delicious! Not the place for serious tea drinkers (choices are limited and standard) or scone lovers (the two you get are the size of the condiment containers). Overall a good place to introduce the tea experience to for first timers or take visitors to the city.
The food and ambience were very good. Loved the 'old world' ambience. The only drawback to the experience was waiting for the bill. It took a long time to come. When I inquired about the bill, the hostess said I would have to walk down a steep set of stairs to get the bill since there were some technical issues with the invoice machine. The stairs were very steep and I am an elderly lady- the staff should have taken care of following up the bill for me.
Outstanding tea service! Beautifully decorated old brownstone- felt like you were in a wealthy old lady’s house.
Food was excellent- 5 course pre fixed and every course was amazing. Unlimited tea and generous portions. Wonderful way to spend a special afternoon with friends.
Where do I begin? Everything was so amazing. The photos do not do this place justice. The event planner Christine was so amazing and welcoming. The ambiance and service was superb. Will definitely be coming back soon!
I have been wanting to come here for years. The experience was great. The service was excellent. The tea service was 5 courses. They have the best egg sandwiches and I hate eggs. I definitely recommend this place.
Pleasant experience and did not feel rushed. Food was well presented with a variety of flavors.
However, they ran out of one of the two black teas without offering that more may be steeping.
The server was a bit careless presenting the check to the birthday girl.
Wonderful tea service and terrific ambience. We will definitely be back.
This was my second time at Lady Mendl's.
- Atmosphere is very feminine
- Amount of food felt substantial compared to my first experience
- Crepe cake is heavenly
Could be Improved
- Air conditioning is a bit weak for summer experiences
- Tea selection is surprisingly limited, could be more adventurous
- Final course lacks a true sour/tart dimension
Very chic, cute place. Quiet with prompt service and good food. Had an overall pleasant experience but may be slightly overpriced.
