Lovely Mom and Daughter tea opportunity in an historic setting. Enjoyed each course (ok, the cake part a bit too much cream over crepe for me) thoroughly and with a tiny table did not miss serving myself from a tiered platter. Was able to try multivarieties of tea throughout which is unusual in the annals of high tea places. A bit high priced, but then again, it's NYC.
I love, love, love this place. Celebrated my past three birthdays here, a friend's bachelorette....this place always lovely!
Lady Mendl’s was an experience and an EXCELLENT one at that! The different courses were refreshing and surprising and the tea choices were phenomenal. The atmosphere was quiet. The decor was stunning I did not feel rushed at all. I thought it was completely worth the price.
My daughter and i celebrated her 21st Birthday at Lady Mendl's and they made it a wonderful experience for both of us! Thank you!
Such a charming place, so beautiful china, everything just perfect!
This is a place I always enjoy -- almost like being back in London for tea time
It was greaf
Such a wonderful experience; so civilized, beautiful decor, great service!
It was absolutely the most charming spot! We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea and the service was superb. Highly recommend!
Lovely experience. Lovely ambiance
The experience exceeded expectations. There was no special occasion, it was a friend's get-together. I arrived exactly on time and my friend arrived late. I thought for sure they would cancel our reservation but I was allowed to wait in a nice Parlor room with no harassment from the staff. At first, we were seated close to the door but they quickly moved us to the back where the ambience was better. The sandwiches were delicious if a bit small. The tea kept flowing. The staff was attentive. Everything was authentic- from the fire in the hearth to the clotted cream. My only complaint is the dishes did not match. They were not part of a set. All in all, I would absolutely recommend this place. We received far more than we were expecting for only $59.
Great atmosphere! Some great tea options. The scones were some of the best I’ve ever had!
High quality service and dessert！love it ！
We enjoyed our tea, especially the ambience and the service. Overall the food was pretty good although it was sweet heavy as expected with tea. Wish they had a few more champagne options. Would come again!
Went for the high tea experience and while the location and historical nature of the setting was great the food was ordinary. Sandwiches were a little stale. The scones were a little hard and had a horrible crumbly texture ( worst I’ve ever eaten)and then a 20 layered crepe/cake which was too creamy.
The tea was nice although only 4 choices.
Overall a little disappointed.
I hadn't been there in years a and was pleased to find it was just as I remembered. I took my fiance and he was happy with the food and tea selection. Great afternoon at Lady Mendls!
The waitress was very nice and tried her best, but the overall experience has tanked. They were entirely overwhelmed by a fairly normal crowd size - we were left sitting for nearly an hour before they served us any food (or refilled the small teacup, since they only served the tea out of communal teapots). The scones were delicious, but the sandwiches and cake were deeply underwhelming.
I have enjoyed many teas over the years. I went here on December 29th. I called ahead to make sure they were running on time. When we walked in there wasn't anyone to greet us. The coat check man waved us over and then the hostess came over and said they were running late. There weren't enough seats for everyone waiting to be seated so we were a little crammed on an antique couch. The decor was nice and I am a big fan of the mismatched china. The seats are a little uncomfortable at the tables. Our waiter was terrible and we often sat with empty tea cups. When the finger sandwiches came and there was no serving tongs or spatula I asked for one. The waiter said, they are meant to be picked up. I get that but not from the serving tray that everyone uses!?!?They do not leave the pots of tea for you at the table, which I found inconvenient. Fist course was pumpkin soup- that was ok. Finger sandwiches were again ok but nothing spectacular. Scones were a little dry. Jam, clotted cream and lemon curd were spot on. Dessert was definitely from a box. I would not do tea here again.
They serve a gluten-free option for the afternoon tea which was great (and tasty)! Amazing atmosphere and it feels like another world. There was a delay in seating us and once we were there, the service was incredibly slow. Aside from this, it was a good experience! Would definitely go again and hope there are more servers.
Really was not the nest afternoon tea especially considering the price. Note that everything is served piecemeal. You don't get a tiered tray or pot of tea
We had a marvelous time and enjoyed the excellent service by Daniela. The Christmas decor was lovely. The food was delicious and we especially enjoyed trying Wonderland tea for the first time. The mismatched china from various pattern added to the overall charm of our experience.
Nice afternoon tea. A bit overpriced but still enjoyed it.
If you look at the photos online, you'll be reasonably prepared for this very authentic afternoon tea spot. It is expensive, but afternoon tea in NYC invariably runs so. Of course, I've had a lot of afternoon tea in London that expensive as well. Sure beats the Russian Tea Room in price, food and service. You get lots of tea with several selections, a soup (our was a delicious spiced pumpkin apple), scones and Devonshire clotted cream, tea sandwiches, cookies and a dessert. Don't go there thinking it's a light afternoon tea . . . it's not. The decor is highly entertaining within this very discrete Georgian brownstone. Assuming your manhood can deal with afternoon tea, take your wife or date, it's lots of fun.
An absolutely lovely experience having afternoon tea. Food was wonderful. Service excellent. The manager friendly and helpful
Great atmosphere. Loved it
Beautifully furnished brownstone, lovely table-settings. Food very good.
Our server was extremely defensive and at times, quite rude. My sister is Vegan and Gluten Free, which I mentioned in our open table reservation. Yet when we arrived the staff was not prepared and actually gave her a plate of salad and cantaloupe. If they weren’t able to accommodate a full prefixe meal for her, then we wouldn’t just picked somewhere else. We loved the ambiance and the historic building. The tea selections were great. Will not return because of the lack of hospitality training.
I have been doing tea in New York for 35 years and this is the first tea house that gets it all right. Fabulous scones, lemon curd, clotted cream, and attentive service...ambiance that is cozy traditional with a fun twist. Most astonishing is that they don't refill your tea till every drop is gone, so that you are truly getting a hot cup of fresh each time. Perfect Perfection!
Always lovely, gracious and accommodating. We enjoy the afternoon tea. This last time the tea choices were much more limited- disappointing.
Holiday decorations are special and very festive!
Made a reservation at Lady Mendls for afternoon tea to celebrate my sister's birthday. For those seeking a lovely place for high tea, this is NOT the place. It's not even high tea. We arrived at 4:30 to discover we were the last seating. (Most high teas start at 3:30.) They had only five teas to select from, including the two most basic, English Breakfast and Early Grey. Tea is served from the pot to the table so you had no idea whether they are using fresh leaves, or how the tea is steeped. Food is plated and served in courses, rather than on a tiered tray at the table. This gave the wait staff the ability to rush our meal, although for the most part, they were completely inattentive. We had to repeatedly request more tea. We also asked to be moved from our table due to the loud noise emanating from the kitchen (made worse by the fact that there was no background music playing.) The waiter told us the internet was spotty so the music went in and out. For the grand finale, they started clearing tables and stacking chairs for the next day as we dined. At $65 per person, this was a complete waste of money. Do not bother.
Took my mom here for a Christmas season mother-daughter day... She absolutely loved it! The decor is adorable and the atmosphere is cute and cozy. Teas were very nice, you could mix and match and drink as much as you desire. The food was okay, a lot of sweet courses... Even the savory courses had sweet elements, so we had to get a pretzel after to balance our taste buds out. It's only a few blocks from the Union Square Holiday Market, so we walked over and browsed for a bit before going home. The overall experience and excitement for my mom was totally worth the price! I highly recommend!
Absolutely delightful decor for afternoon tea... transported back to Victorian days. Food is terrific. It is expensive but for a "traditional" Christmas tea it is worth a treat.
Rude & inattentive waitstaff. Food was fine. Service quality did not match the beautiful ambiance. Had to request tea refills, forgot what tea we ordered, when we asked about the height of the ceiling (gorgeous brownstone) in the room, Waiter replied “I’ve no idea, I’m not an architect”.
Very unusual place for NYC - great architechtural details inside and antiques... service was really good and food was delicious.
Service was lackadaisical and unprofessional. Sandwiches were ok but bread tasted hard as if it has been cut and sitting out all day. Tea wasnt not and tastes oversteeped. Overall pretty disappointed.
I had afternoon tea at lady mend at least 3 years ago and thought it was great. This time the tea selection was limited and the sandwiches were smaller and no seconds were offered ( as in past years). Its a beautiful place but would not go back
Great experience! Excellent location and afternoon tea experience.
Took my teenage daughter for a surprise tea at Lady Mendl's. She loved it! The boho-Victorian ambiance is fabulous. Service was tremendous and food very tasty. Such a lovely afternoon. Highly recommend!
A wonderful place to meet your best friends and have a leisurely afternoon. Great for a birthday too! Perfect for the Christmas season. Wait staff is exceptional! Daniella was our server and she was charming and engaging and gave us all the time and space we needed.
Afternoon tea was fantastic. Definitely will do this again.
Really unique place for afternoon tea. Beautiful building and the ‘secret’ sign makes it a fun addition.
