Went for afternoon tea and enjoyed. excellent service- plenty of food- small portions but there are 5 courses. last two are desert- and very sweet- couldn't finish- would have preferred a plate of cookies to the crepe cake...tea and preparation great- you can try all the rest selections; you aren't limited to choosing one.

A special setting...like an old English parlor...this is a world unto its own with traditional high tea and a glass of cava to set the mood. The multi-layer whipped cream cake is divine...so divine the very very thin slice seems stingy. The pumpkin soup starter was not a fav but I'll write that off to not being a fan of pumpkin. The scones were yummy, the bread on the cucumber sandwiches didn't taste as fresh as one would expect, but the clotted cream is a luxury. Our waitress was friendly...though the service was not elegant...and in this locale that would seem more appropriate. But all in all...for a unique, close-to-authentic outing for tea lovers...this is the place.

I met my cousin here for high tea. I had never been. She had her mother's 85th birthday here a few years ago. I really loved the ambience. The coconut tea was delicious. The sandwiches yummy. Too bad the scones were so tiny!! But The clotted cream & lemon curd were outstanding The 23 layer dessert was amazing so silky & light. Thanks for a wonderful time!!

I came here with a friend on a Saturday afternoon for the tea service. The ambience is like having afternoon tea at a rich aunts house. The decor was eclectic (I loved the tablewear and how even the cups differ in size and design on the same table) and the servers were very nice and polite. Probably a little more on the expensive side for high tea but every course was served separately at a somewhat slow pace (don't come here if you're in a rush) as opposed to the standard tier system. We also got a complimentary glass of prosecco which is maybe why it was 59$ as opposed to the standard 50. I found it a little odd that the pots weren't set on the table and that every time you wanted a refill, the servers would pour it. It was maybe a little excessive but even if you are a fast drinker, they come by enough to never leave you thirsty. For food we started off with a hot soup made with pumpkin and topped with pepitas and pomegranate seeds. We then had standard tea sandwiches which were a little on the small side (bite size) which included an egg salad, smoked salmon, cucumber, roasted red pepper and cream cheese sandwich, squash toast and some sandwich with a sweet jam that my friend hated. We were then given piping hot scones (one regular and one with cranberry) that needed a minute to cool down with lemon curd, a raspberry jam and clotted cream. The scones were delicious I just wish they had been a little bigger. Up next was a slice of petit Mille feuille cake which I really enjoyed but my friend thought was a little too creamy and then we finished with macarons, a chocolate dipped strawbrrry and a sugar cookie with two of each of course. My friends favourite was the hot pumpkin soup and I enjoyed the scones with the clotted cream. I did request a table by the window and that wasn't fulfilled which was a little disappointing but it was a great time in general! I recommend trying it out if you're an avid high tea goer and want to try something a little different.

Very nice afternoon tea experience. Great ambience and excellent service. The web site made it sound like there was a selection of tea sandwiches to choose from, but actually there is a predetermined selection of sandwiches and you get one of each. The selection was nicely varied and I enjoyed them all. But, my dining companion only liked one of the selections and was not allowed to replace the other selections with the one she liked.

There was a nice selection of teas, not as varied as some other places we’ve had tea. But the quality of the teas we chose was excellent. And they pour the tea from pots in a central location where they are kept fresh and hot with unlimited replenishment.

Overall this was a lovely tea experience.

This was the worst tea service I've been to in NYC...maybe just an off day as it was so highly rated and recommended?! First off it was so hot that you can't enjoy drinking hot tea, the sandwiches were tasteless and boring, and they couldn't remember what tea we ordered for refills and even poured wrong. It wasn't really 5 courses as one course was 2 tiny scones and one was a few macarons. Too expensive for the quality and scones were dry. I would go to Alice's Tea Cup over this place any day!

A good place for a proper afternoon tea, but trying too hard to be cool and hip. Music was too loud. Hip hop does t really go with a proper tea.

Went to Lady Mendls to celebrate my daughter leaving for college. Waiter was very attentive. They brought out chocolate covered strawberries for her birthday without my even asking. This was the second time we've been there. It may seem pricey but you are paying for a 2 hour experience. Both times we left feeling quite full. Highly recommend,

Great food and excellent service. Unfortunately at $59pp this is a terrible value for the amount of food you receive. Bottomless pots of great tea (you’re free to switch your tea multiple times throughout the meal if you wish). Delicious finger sandwhiches and scones. Watermelon feta salad starter was good but very strange for a traditional British afternoon tea.

The wait staff was very attentive and very friendly. The atmosphere is very pretty and feels like you are in a Victorian home with lovely mis matched tea cups and plates. The food was good but very overpriced for what you get. It was enjoyable to experience a authentic high tea and is worth doing once. Unfortunately, due to the cost I would not consider doing it again.

Way overpriced for what it is. Too slow to take order. Found a hair in the first course. Mint tea tasted very off. All around a sub-par experience. Only positive thing I can say is once they got around to serving us tea, they made sure to keep our tea cups full. Will not recommend.

My wife and I came here with some trepidation given some of the reviews we saw on OpenTable. Overall, our experience was very positive. It should be noted that the room in which we were seated only had one other couple. So the service provided by a very nice gentleman was very attentive. Some previous comments mentioned the fact that a teapot is not placed on the table - I can see where this might be an issue. For us, it was not an issue as the service was very good (this may not be the case if the room happens to be full??). We found the menu and quality of the items provided very good. At about $60.00 per person (without drinks, tax, gratuity) it is not inexpensive, but we found the value to be fair based on the experience, and the fact one is dining in New York City.

This was my fourth and my wife's fifth tea service, so we have a lot of experience or very little depending on your experience. It was the first time, however, that the things we ate along with the tea were presented in a sequence like a series of course or a tasting menu instead of being brought together on a multi-level tray. We both prefer the way they do things at Lady Mendls. Everything was good to great and the wait staff was terrific. My wife was impressed by the authenticity of the mismatched china, and we both loved the ambiance of the place. We'll be back the next time we're in New York.

I have been coming to LM for years and noticed changes from previous years. The noise level is like a bar instead of tea parlor. Before each person would get their own pot of tea now they come to pour your tea cup if they see it emptied (around 3-4 times). Before they came around 3 times to offer the finger sandwiches now they only offer each once and that's it. The LM sliced of cake used to be more now they are thinly sliced. Overall the price is more now at $59 and offer less. Can't say it's worth it for the ambiance when the crowd cannot speak in a more civilized manner. It seems people have lost their sophication for tea time.

I'm astounded this place has so many great reviews because the food and service across the board was atrocious. Like, not "an off day" type of food, but literally everything tasted of low-quality, processed foods. Which, for $70 pp after your tax and tip, is totally offensive. The point of getting tea service is to have a leisurely afternoon with really nice tea, fresh baked pastries and quality finger sandwiches. Nothing there was fresh or of any sort of recommendable quality.

The first course consisted of underripe honeydew and crappy tasteless crumble feta with a few bits of wilted chopped basil in it. The second course consisted of finger sandwiches made with super cheap, dry crustless sliced bread with low-grade cream cheese and maybe some Smuckers jam, not particularly good salmon garnished with two capers. The third course was a foodservice quality scone you'd find in a university dining hall that was sliced in half despite the fact it wasn't even warm, served with I don't even know what that was posing as clotted cream, lemon curd and cheap preserves. And their supposedly famous crepe cake tasted like a Sara Lee frozen food aisle cake. There was only one server going around the room, so you get to stay for 3.5 hours if you feel like having a long catch up session. The tea was mediocre. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Celestial Seasonings. And whatever the claimed to serve as Sancerre definitely was not. It tasted like super cheap Sauvignon Blanc, which I'm guessing the majority of the people who come to this place probably don't know the difference with any of this.

Pro-tip: for half the money, you could get a bottle of natural wine and shareable snacks elsewhere or for even cheaper, go to Maison Kayser and order a bread basket, fresh pastries and a couple of beverages for a whopping $15-20 and they'll let you stay just as long with much better service. This place is a total rip off.

Found this place on line and booked it for my visit to NYC. I was there with my two 13 year old nieces. The place was beautiful. Very Victorian/British in style$. I felt transported to London. The service was impeccable. The adults were offered a complimentary champagne. The tea was delicious and all the China and tea pots were lovely. The food was delicious and there was something for everyone.

I found Lady Mendls annoying. Yes I'm critical, I'm English - but it seemed to me to be pretentious and unlike the many, good afternoon tea places I have visited in the past. I feel all those involved with the place should fly to London and visit Fortnum and Mason's for their afternoon tea to see how to do it properly.

Also - it was very expensive for what was on offer.

We were told to keep our "taking pictures" to a minimum and in the same sentence told us to stop taking pictures. The server was annoyed and his services showed. He was a bit rude to my friends and I but as we ate his attitude got better. I took my friends there because online it looked perfect for pictures and this was their first time coming to a tea place in America but after their experience there they told me that it was a mistake because of the server's attitude. I would understand it if we were annoying the customers around but throughout our time there we saw a total of 8 customers who also took pictures. I would still recommend anyone who would like to enjoy a nice and quiet afternoon tea here because this place was beautiful.

Afternoon Tea is not necessarily something my friends do but they indulge me by accompanying me to this venue. I forewarned that we maybe ushered out immediately after we complete our meal because that sentiment was consistent in a lot of review. That was not out experience on Sunday, 05/21/2017. We were able to sit and have great conversation and left when we were ready to leave.

Lady Mendl Salon space is beautiful. Ambiance superb. The servers were attentive. Loved the fact that the furniture were mixed matched but blended well together. Though it was afternoon teas (with treat), we were full before the last serving, number 5. I will be back in the space and my friends plan to be back also. Great experience.

Limited tea selection for a tea room. The sandwiches were good, the scones moist and yummy. Probably would not rank in the top 10 in London but for this side of the pond, it's good. I wouldn't return but that's only because I'm from the U.K. and get back there often enough.

Very nice change of pace for a date or afternoon activity, and I like that you can switch your teas with each course of the prix- fixe. By the end, we thought the portions were small to justify the price.
