Lady Mendls was recommended by a hotel employee where I was staying. And the tea did not disappoint. The building itself was so charming and the service was impeccable. I can't say enough about the food. I would definitely recommend Lady Mendls. There are many places in New York City to go for tea but this one is outstanding.
We have been to Lady Mendl’s several times over many years. I do miss the former extensive variety of teas that were available (my favorite was After the Rain) and I enjoyed the former 3-tiered presentation of scones, tea sandwiches and petit fours. Everything was tasty and the tea “pairings” were fun but not emblematic of teas I would have preferred to enjoy. Our server Alberto was fantastic and attentive. We appreciated his service immensely. We were fortunate to enjoy tea on a quiet, rainy Monday afternoon so it was the perfect way to pass the day. The salon was decorated beautifully for the holiday season.
Per usual Lady Mendls did not disappoint. I frequent the tea salon at least 3-5 times a year and the food, service, and ambiance are always top notch. Thank you Daniella and Alberto for your excellent service. Looking forward to my next visit.
Lady Mendls was nice but not as nice as the online photos. The food was good but service was not as good as you would expect from "Afternoon Tea".
Not easy to find, the tea cup on the wall is tiny. The front stairs into the cafe are a nightmare, and the door opens towards you whilst you are standing on the top step. We felt the waitress was rather non plus, she didnt seem to care whether we were there or not. There was no apmesphere and this disappointed as we are both vision impaired. We researched the High Tea establishments rather thoroughly, and Lady Mendls seemed the best in NYC.
Have been to Lady Mendl's twice now. It's really a lovely way to spend some time and have tea with a friend or family member. The food that pairs with the each tea was great. Would go back anytime!
Afternoon tea in NYC is a pricey experience, but I think this place is, maybe, the most expensive. It is lovely: the room, the food, the service are terrific. Tea includes a small serving of soup, a few small finger sandwiches, two small scones, and a piece of cake with a cookie and a petit-four. With tax, $70 (with tip, over $80). Maybe save this place for a special occasion.
Love Lady Mendls! Such a beautiful space with tasty food and above and beyond service. Highly recommend to anyone looking for afternoon tea.
Such a nice place with great service and great food! Would def go back
A quiet destination for traditional tea in a traditional setting. Prepare for 2 hours and many teas and courses. Tasty, well-prepared traditional finger sandwiches and sweets. Bring a friend skilled at quiet conversation.
Amazing!! Gorgeous room, great service and delicious food
Great! Good food, great ambiance.. Sophisticated wait staff.
The place had an aura of romance. It is the place that is very good to come alone.
If there is an opportunity, I want to visit it again.
I was worried about some the shops being dark.
The service at Lady Mendls is always impeccable. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The teas are always amazing and the savories and sweets are delectable. My only request is to bring back the Gramercy Pearl tea please!!!
We had a blast! I would take note that afternoon tea is a multiple hour experience. We had accounted for 2 hours to sit and chat. We were seated a bit late (which is NOT to be a negative note, we had a nice time sitting in the waiting room), but I had to run out a bit early (about 1-1.5 courses in/ie: just before dessert), about an hour and a half into our sitting.
I am definitely going back, and allotting for extra time.
I also cannot more highly recommend asking for the tea pairings. This way you try the array of teas, and they are well suited to the small bites of food you are eating at the same time.
Such an elegant, chic place! And amazing customer service! Loved it.
Wonderful experience. So glad that we found Lady Mendl’s!!!
Need to repair outside steps, one of my friends almost fell down one on leaving.
Wonderful, lovely and leisurely. As delicious as diving into an Edith Wharton novel. What a treat!
It was too noisy and I couldn't hear from a person speaking next to me. I expected to spend a quality time with my friend, and it was impossible even to listen to her. I felt like I was sitting at mall food court. Sandwiches were not impressive at all.
Staff was wonderful and food was great
A lovely treat to celebrate my friends birthday. Alberto coursed out our afternoon tea to a T!
It was lovely. The staff was very attentive. The food was delicious and just what you’d expect from a high tea. All the special finger sandwiches and scones etc. The place is cozy and felt like a we had time traveled back in time to someplace like Downton Abbey. It was a really nice treat.
Inventive menu, gorgeous space, generous refills, delicious choice of tea and you can try many different ones. Would have preferred not to have bill placed on our table before we asked for it; not conducive to the mood and we had not overstayed; in fact, we hadn’t finished. Otherwise this is a special, more intimate place for tea than the various hotels.
Some of the best afternoon tea I have ever had! Loved the warm scones and homemade fixings. The ambiance is so unique and beautiful
Lovely atmosphere, very small portions, uninspired sandwiches and very very overpriced
It was a birthday celebration w 6 women We try to go for high tea when it is one of our birthdays We all agreed that this was our favorite place that we have been to Everything was perfect and special and so elegant
Thanks for an amazing experience
This is a wonderful place for tea! Service was fantastic.
Always love going here. Food and service are wonderful
Lady M's is one of a kind & my favorite place for high tea! Give me a Brownstone in Gramercy Park over the Plaza any day. Not only is the tea service & food delicious. The staff, decor & ambiance just can't be beat. The same well mannered staff is there year after year. Which speaks volumes. You're greated by a hostess wearing a perfect black Breakfast at Tiffany's frock. Who blends the perfect combo of manners & personalization. The furnishings & decor are truly enviable. Surrounding one with happiness & style. I have always chosen the the tea pairing menu, as they know tea much better than I. Experienceing perfect tastes with both classic & innovative choices of sandwiches & desserts. Which are intricate, well thought out & a joy for the palate!
Honestly this place is the bomb!
Can I move in?....lol.
A very pleasant afternoon
Such a great venue for afternoon tea! It’s always a treat to come to this Victorian setting to just relax and enjoy earlier times. The food is plentiful (and delicious), although mostly sweet. Perhaps some of the breads needn’t be so.
The amount of food I received was NOT worth the price. I left hungry and it was a $70 meal. I paid $70 for a few snacks. It's a bummer because the food was incredible and the atmosphere was really nice, but that's not enough to justify the amount of food they give you.
Really enjoyed our time at Lady Mendl’s!
Daniella was amazing. She was very attentive and kind. Our entire 5 course meal was superb. I look forward to coming back again.
Catching up with old friend
I found about Lady Mendl’s through a Google search for afternoon tea. I read that they only opened at certain hours, and that they charge $25 for not showing up, so I thought maybe they will be snobby & unfriendly. But I was pleased that the staff was very friendly, beginning with the host who greeted us, and the space was intriguing with the sense of a British home.
Our table was next to the kitchenette, so it was a bit noisy. At first, when I asked for coffee, I was told that they only had tea. Then I asked again, because without coffee, I couldn’t enjoy the tastes (just me, my husband loves tea.) Luckily, the server accommodated my request, and I really appreciated it as I was just wondering where to get coffee!
The menu is fixed: a delicious watermelon & feta salad, various sandwiches, scones with cream & jams, a very delicious cake! On that date, it was vanilla cream cake, really yummy! Then a few sugary treats.
My only complaint was that the sandwiches were not enough for my big appetite. I wish we could have ordered just a few more. Other than the portions and the noise from the kitchenette, everything else was perfect, especially the service.
I took my niece there for her 16th birthday - very nice ambiance
Experience was Ok. Booked for my wife and her girlfriend for her birthday. Wife loves afternoon tea... (we are originally from England). She said it was odd one didn’t get a pot of tea to yourself, instead there were seven or so teas in pots on a bar/counter that were served to you. They weren’t kept warm and basically she got served lukewarm tea. For an afternoon tea, one should expect the tea to be served hot! Scones were delicious though... and served with a clotted cream (quite a light version but clotted nonetheless!)
Setting was quaint, in a brownstone so ambiance was great. Shame about the tea. It wasn’t busy, only two tables and service was meh. Would my wife go again? Probably not.
