Afternoon tea is one of my favorite activities - ever - so I'm always on the look out for a great spot. To date, this is my favorite place in the city. Everything about my experience from decor, to service, to the food was on point. I can't wait to go back!
I felt like I was transported to London with the queen. Fine teas and delicious finger sandwiches with the perfect scones. Can’t wait to rerjrn
wonderful way to celebrate 75 birthday for two good friends. definitely the perfect afternoon!
A very elegant atmosphere however Lady Mendelssohn really needs to consider a healthier menu for its patrons. Although delicious individually , overall there was an overload of sugar, carbs and cream.
Elegant and relaxing atmosphere from the decor to the music. Incredible service. We loved every moment!
Really pretty and unique reataurant in a historic building/brownstone on pretty block.
Afternoon tea was great— definitely expensive per person button was many courses over a couple of hours, and lovely service for a special afternoon. Soup and scones and butternut squash pieces were our favorite!
Sandwiches were our least favorite.
And of course th tea was good too!
It was a quaint tea house. Decor is lovely. Tea selection was delicious. Service was perfect. Definitely worth going to.
Luscious, leisurely, lovely, with extraordinary service and ambiance.
I had a problem making the reservation. I first called the restaurant to make the res & to request a round table for two. Time was flexible. Left message, received no return call. I then made the res on open table requesting the round table. Upon arrival they said they knew of the round table request, but our request was too late! We were offered a seating at a settee with a low cocktail table. This was very uncomfortable for eating, balancing a tea cup & for conversation.
Sandwiches & scones were wonderful, but desserts were overly sweet.
Would not come back
Fabulous experience. Wonderful food. Perfect birthday celebration for my friend. She was so happy. Waiter was so attentive. Had fun and left happy!! Would definitely go back.
Lovely service. Good surroundings. Perfect for relaxing tea with daughter. Loved the tea pairings.
Excellent all around. Great service, great food, and a beautiful house. Great for just a meet up with friends, or for a special occasion.
I have been here in Jan every year for the passed 5 years for my birthday.
This year was the absolute worst.
Our table was very close to the kitchen.
Every time the staff walked passed the table (which was often, being next to the kitchen curtain) the glasses and cups would rattle/shake with the movement of their steps on the floor.
The service was not as good as any of the other years, not classy and sophisticated like previous years. Hap hazard servicing of food, the sandwiches were from yesterday or two days before. The bread was hard for all the sandwiches. Expected for the crostini but not all the others.
Tea was a nightmare. It’s my favorite thing about lady Mendez usually, because you can try different teas with your different courses. Our very first cup was Extra Strong and luke warm English breakfast tea. My husband being british was appalled - and we sent this tea back.
Some instances our scones would arrive and our cups stayed empty for a long while, so we had to eat without being able to sip our tea. the empty cups were tended to, but well after. And the scones, were like biscuits. Hardish on the outside and somewhat flat.
I am writing this in the hope that management looks into it and turns this around quickly. The concept of afternoon tea makes me so happy, and having been to every single one available in this city... I keep coming back here for my birthday tradition. The room is quaint and Victorian.
It would be a shame for this to deteriorate any more.
We had a lovely high tea at Lady Mendl's. The setting, the china, the service were all superb. I hope to have a private party there very soon...
Absolutely charming surroundings and delicious five course tea menu. A very special experience, and conveniently, a great pre-theatre meal when you have an early 7:00 curtain.
Lovely, no-pressure, tea service. Tasty treats, bottomless tea, sweet decor and friendly service.
This place has a nice environment for conversation, but not much impressed about the quality of food and tea.
We celebrated a friends 60th bday, everything was perfect!! Not my first visit and definitely not my last. The tea sandwiches were terrific, and the scones were amazing!!
the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Perfect afternoon tea service.
very expensive and service was just non existent. We asked for food items to be identified and when the server didnt know, we never heard from the server again for the rest of the meal. Loudest talking in the room was the server complaining about money. There was not a lot of food, and what was served wasn't very good.
I have been taking my daughter’s and sister-in-law for tea at Lady Mendel’s as an annual outing for the last 15 or do years. We absolutely love everything about the experience
Booked an afternoon tea for my grandparents and they haven't stopped raving! They said I "hit it out of the park" with this recommendation. Loved the tea they chose and were full after all of the food (the crepe cake and butternut squash sandwich were highlights). The atmosphere was quaint and it was the perfect leisurely afternoon activity. It honestly might be the highlight of their trip.
Everything about this spot is special. An amazing few hours of tea in a gorgeous brownstone.
Excellent service in a beautiful townhouse venue.
Lovely atmosphere and beautiful decor. Very much like an authentic English tea.
El servicio debe afinar
Wonderful in every way!
If u r looking for a pretty place to have afternoon tea LM is quite lovely but the food is very mediocre. Actually, the only thing I truly enjoyed were the scones. It was $223 for 3 people for about $20 dollars worth of quality tea and not very wonderful tea treats. Go for the experience if u like but once is enough for me and Ms Mendel.
Date - High Tea
I love high tea, and it's always nice to find a fresh place in the city. This is not the high tea where they bring everything out on a tiered rack of plates; instead, you get five courses -- which are more than sufficient, including soup, small sandwiches (I was asked if I wanted more when I was done, and I would have but I knew other things were coming), scones with the required Devonshire cream, jam and lemon curd, and a delicious layered cream slice of cake plus little finger desserts.
Food wise everything was quite tasty. The scones were small -- like fit in the palm of your hand small -- and very crusty/crumbly. This may not be for everyone, but the texture was fine for me. I just thought they were a bit small, and I'd have taken another of *those*. They came out warm and my sense was they'd just been prepared, but it did take a long time between sandwiches and scones. The slice of cake was great, and the other mini-desserts actually too much for me; the macaron was the only thing I left partially finished.
The other slight downside (for some!) is that you have no say in your tea preparation; they come and refill as much as you need. Which is fine, but I love the process of steeping my own leaves and pouring when it's ready. I'd love it if they had that option. The tea selection was small -- about 5 flavors -- and that could be expanded as well, but the English Breakfast I had was just fine.
For the price, this is a once-a-year special occasion or event; Christmas/Holiday, birthday, bridal shower, etc. The high-tea is good, but it is the location and decor that makes it ‘extra special’.
For the four of us (2 mothers and our high school aged daughters) it was the perfect place to celebrate the holidays while introducing the high tea experience to our daughters. Service was warm, friendly and on-point without being overly fussy as compared with a high tea at the Waldorf Astoria, for example. Gramercy Park is a beautiful part of NYC and it nice to have an excuse to go there and explore.
Fantastic anytime but great tradition at the holidays.
Had an amazing time!!! They really made me feel special on my bday ❤️. Service was outstanding.
Food, Service and Ambience were excellent. Very authentic tea service and very delicious. Highly recommend.
The food was so delicious though we did have a vegetarian/non-cheese member of our party and the staff was not accommodating. We were told we would try 4 teas, one with each course, and that was not the case. We had the same tea over 2 courses and by the time we realized that we had the same tea refilled over and over again we had to get the waiter attention to change it. We ended up only trying 3 teas and half our group didn't get the 3rd tea. I'll look somewhere else for next time.
Beautiful setting and great service but felt it was overpriced
Had a wonderful time for my Mums 60th birthday. Beautiful food, attentive staff. A magical place ❤️
Food was not very good. The sandwiches were like eating a piece of white bread with a small smear of something. It was very very expensive for the amount that was served. Very disappointing.
Perfect High Tea! Portion sizes are spot on, and not heavy. Teas are delicious and served at the perfect temperature always. The atmosphere is elegant without being stuffy. My one little issue, I wish they had a wider tea selection. Music was also great.
