Laboratorio Kitchen offers guests a modern atmosphere paired with seasonal food and tender service. Chef/Owner James DeSisto has a seasonal a la carte menu featuring fresh seafood, pasta, steaks, and appetizers. In addition there is a small plates menu available (Tuesday thru Thursday) and daily specials every night. Chef DeSisto also has gluten free and vegan options for guests as well. Keep in mind we are a BYOB restaurant so don't forget the wine.

The servers were very attentive. I was expecting the food to be much better. I had the trout, and it was good. The portion was plentiful. My wife had the lamb and it was mediocre at best. The lamb had barely any flavor. We had the ravioli for an app, which BTW, was posed as the best app they had. It was basically a pesto ravioli. Nothing special.

Additionally, the wall next to our table was dirty.

The website says dressy; however, there were a few people there who looked like they were going out to play basketball. The staff should really address this type of clothing. One guy even had a hat on...no class!

All in all it was a decent experience. I don’t think we will be going back. There are much better restaurants in the area.

I really enjoyed my evening here. The food was wonderful. I had the risotto and it was just excellent. There was a slight side of fresh crab meat with some zesty chorizo sausage mixed throughout. I can't speak highly enough of the risotto, it was just delicious. I completely cleared the plate. My wife had a great time too, and the service was EXCELLENT - just the right amount of detail, not too bothersome, and good waiters.

6 of us went to the restaurant for a dinner.
Everybody enjoyed our meals. Portions are very general and tasty. We came early, place was quiet. Prices are reasonable and it is BYO - big plus!

Food was good but Menu was limited. Wait staff was attentive however person at the front area was extremely rude. It was later in the evening and everyone seemed like they wanted to go home. The ambience was just OK.

hi, we had a lovely time here. the organic chicken was delish and scallops were very good. super friendly, loved it was byob, would recommend to anyone in the area. our waiter, Alex, was friendly and efficient. thank you, enjoyed the experience.

The restaurant is located in Montclair where you can have trouble parking. Parking is right across the street. The restaurant is inviting when you walk in. I loved the decor. The service was impeccable. All Waiters and Hosts and Hostess were so friendly. The food was fabulous. The menu had so many choices. We will back especially for the Risotto.

First time, but will not be my last. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the food was very tasty. The service was great we did not have to wait long. We enjoyed the time together just relaxing, laughing and spending together in a warm place.

Another wonderful experience! We had one of the special salads of the evening. Arugula with asparagus, roasted tomatoes, bacon, and lemon poppyseed dressing. Delicious! For dinner I had the strip steak which was huge and cooked perfectly. My cousin had the pappardelle with the huge meatball and could barely eat half but loved it. Finally my mom had the scallops and said they were amazing. For dessert we shared the chocolate soufflé. Out of this world! Warm chocolate cake topped with vanilla gelato. Can’t wait to go back!!!

Such a hidden gem...We brought another couple with us and they were pleasantly surprised. Both couples decided to share appetizers, the Shrimp Arrabiato and House Made Ravioli. Although the Shrimp were good, the Ravioli was outstanding...we all agreed that we could of each had our own order of the ravioli and been satisfied!!!! We ended up ordering the same entrees - The Men indulged on the Special Prime Rib while the Women feasted on the Homemade Seafood Linguine. The Men were funny as they were in competition to complete the 14 oz. steak, but neither could...the Women saw the portion size and knew they wouldn't be able to finish it...Which are both very good things in our opinion.

This establishment is BYOW, which we really appreciate, especially considering the prices are not bad to begin with, and the staff was very attentive and prompt. I would highly recommend this establishment as we will continue to dine here.

Really loved the atmosphere. Excellent crostini appetizer with figs. Unbelievable in-house made burrata (best we ever had!) with a delicious balsamic truffle glaze. Homemade seafood pasta with tomato sauce was a tad too thick. Mentioned on our reservation that it was our 17th anniversary. Nothing at all was mentioned about it. Disappointing to say the least, why bother asking people. Didn't really receive that warm welcoming feeling from wait staff. Brought our appetizer and salads together. Very inattentive. Seemed as if they had only 2 servers working. Don't understand why you would have a beautiful restaurant, good food, but forget about overall service.

You need to eat here!! Everything we ordered was exceptional. I can't express enough how amazing the trout was, and Oh My God....the flan!!! I am so happy we found this restaurant. I will most certainly be bringing my friends and family here soon.

The staff were friendly when we were seated. We ordered two appetizers to share, thinking they would be brought at the same time: the roasted oysters special and the pesto ravioli. Before ordering we asked if the pesto had nuts in it (my friend is allergic to nuts and we have received "pesto" without nuts to accommodate her allergy, though as an Italian I fully understand and will be the first to say it's not really pesto) and to our surprise and her delight we were told there aren't nuts in the pesto. Then the server came back after we'd placed the orders to inform us that the pesto does have pignoli in it, so we had to order the shrimp arabbiata. Both appetizers were delicious, but we expected them to come out together and instead they were served as separate courses. The shrimp came out second and was so delicious we wanted a second round of bread to dip in the incredible sauce. The servers were looking everywhere but at us and it took several attempts before we could get anyone's attention for the bread. For entrées my friend had the trout and I had the scallops. Eventually. Two tables of four that were seated after us and who both also had appetizer courses received the entrées before we did. We had to grab a server (again, several attempts) and ask where our food was. It was brought out shortly after the request, but we had to ask for the check as soon as it was served; we had theater tickets and didn't expect the service to take so long. The waiter brought the check quickly, at which point we suddenly received more attention and personality than we'd had the entire meal. He was obviously making a last attempt at a good tip, though we had been neglected the entire meal. I will try one more time because the food was delicious, but with so many fabulous restaurants in Montclair, if the service isn't better, it will be hard to return a third time. The bench seating on the wall is slightly deflated and mildly uncomfortable, very straight seating.

This was my first time at this restaurant. The meatball appetizer was one HUGE meatball, totally unnecessary to be that size. It could feed four people. I ordered the rainbow trout which was flavorless. But beyond that, the noise level became so intolerable that by dessert I couldn’t take it anymore.

Laboratorio Kitchen never disappoints. Ever. It is the most consistent and reliable venues in this foodie town--they leave "trendy" to others, and "snooty" never comes into it. It's just always a pleasure to dine here--there have been some new additions since the last time I was in, and the small-plate and dessert menus are somewhat amplified since my last visit: just enough, never overwhelming. This place doesn't play; they take their craft very seriously and keep it simple. I never feel overwhelmed with choices; they do what they do exceptionally well. One very happy dessert addition: vanilla gelato, purely good all by itself. Not everyone is a chocoholic! This is where I take friends who just want an excellent meal--no frills, no weird stuff, just very good food prepared and served as it would be in a high-end restaurant , but without-high-end prices, no noisy crowd, no pretentious waiting for a cramped little table with a hawk-like maitre hovering until you leave. It's a pleasure to dine here, and (surprise!) you can actually have a good conversation with your dinner partner OR the maitre d'. THAT doesn't happen often in Montclair! P.S. Portions are big enough to take home leftovers--so I got two good meals for the very reasonable price of one, and good enough that I didn't want to just leave the extra!
