Laboratorio Kitchen is our favorite place for fine dining in Montclair, which is well known for many fine dining restaurants. The service and food are first class, and the atmosphere is inviting without being formal.
I love this restaurant. It has become our "go-to" place for special occasions as well as our monthly dinner out. Excellent staff/service. Highly recommend
Excellent food, service and ambiance
Our dinner reservation was for 6:30....on the early side for a Saturday night. Service was wonderful. Atmosphere was lovely. Food was good enough, not fantastic. My husband ordered the meatball for an appetizer. It was so large he had no interest in the pasta entree. The restaurant might want to consider portion size and food waste in this appetizer.
What I will remember about the meal was the noise level in the restaurant. It was off the chart. Absolutely impossible to talk. Our waiter told us there have been many complaints about noise and after checking other reviews I see noise was mentioned many times.
Unfortunately we will not return.

Amazing culinary experience. There is clearly excellent talent in the kitchen. Each dish was balanced perfectly and a true delight.
We were a tad early for our reservation, but we’re seated almost immediately. We had the absolute pleasure of being taken care of by Mario, whose energy and knowledge of the menu was fantastic.
He sold me on the Cavatelli, and my girlfriend had the Chilean Sea Bass special, and words could not describe how delicious everything was. We then had the Tres Leches and Banana Cream Pie special for dessert, to finish off a spectacular night at this amazing restaurant.
We will DEFINITELY be coming back frequently. Do yourself a favor, and make a reservation, bring you significant other or the family!!

Don’t order the tough, fatty steak au poivre which was barely edible. However every other dish was excellent S was the service.
For Food: I would have given less than 1 star. Ordered the Shrimp Arrabbiata--shrimp had no flavor and simply tasteless/flavorless sauce on top. My daughter had the Rigatoni pasta. She could not stomach it. My wife had the (overcooked) Salmon on top of grilled watermelon (the restaurant it seems is trying too hard to be "creative"). She just had the accompanying arugula and 1/2 the salmon--the watermelon was left alone. I had the organic chicken--which was edible (nothing more). My family dug into that to satiate their appetite. We are a desert eating family--but simply could not go there considering the awful entree experience (even though, it was my wife's birthday). The staff (on an upside) did put a candle on ice cream for us--this was a nice gesture. Not coming back again.
I love this restaurant! I’ve been here many times. Only one suggestion is to add more seasonal and new items to the menu.

We went as a group for a birthday celebration. Everything was perfect including the weather (outdoor dining). Will definitely be back!!!
It was our first visit to this restaurant but it certainly won't be the last. Our waiter, Mario, was absolutely amazing. He was nice, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I asked for suggestions and he did not disappoint. The food was amazing. He did not rush us to make choices or to move on to the next course. Dinner was a wonderful, relaxing experience. Can't wait to go back.

I heard great things about this restaurant and for the most part we had an overall good experience. We got seated immediately and offered water right away. Love that the server saw our wine bottles and opened them with out hesitation!
We ordered two appetizers but should have opted for just one as we got full pretty quickly. We ordered the Pei Mussels & Shrimp Arrabbiata, the mussels were amazing with a delicious broth. The shrimp was tasty but a bit over cooked, the sauce had a good kick to it. For our entrees we ordered the Rainbow Trout & Steak Frites, the steak was well seasoned and cooked exactly how I requested. The trout was well cooked but could have used a bit more flavor, my husband used the horseradish sauce from my steak to add more taste to the fish.
Overall the restaurant is a must try, plenty of options on the menu to choose from. We will be back to try the pasta.

We were very happy with their outdoor dining option - off the main street, quiet, well lit, tables well spaced apart and propane heaters! Service was excellent as well.
We dined outdoors, in a converted space. It was not covered but had heaters and tables nicely spaced. Definitely made the most of what they had to work with.
Food was excellent, service was a bit sluggish at certain times during the meal, but all in all a great experience.
It should be noted that I have enjoyed Laboratoria Kitchen many times pre Covid-19. This was my first time post COVID, and will definitely return
Overall the experience was very good, a little noisy with party on one side of the dining area.
Mussels appetizer was very good, gorgonzola fig crostini was OK. Spaghetti mushroom duck confit (special) and cauliflower scallops was awesome. Server Tony and overall service was on point.
Atmosphere is nice… contrasting interior design, particularly art choices a little confusing, in my opinion.
One of the better restaurants in the area, highly recommended.
Amazing food and service!
The restaurant is popular so they rush you through your meal for the next seating. We were 15 minutes late for our reservation so that didn’t make it any better.
The food is tasty but not exceptional, especially for Montclair.
The wait staff are good. Covid is hard and they should be applauded for their work.
Don’t think I will return during a busy time. Maybe when I know it will be a bit slower.

This was my first time. The food was wonderful. The service was excellent and it’s a lovely atmosphere!
We have been to at least three iterations of restaurants in this location. This one is the best one. Succinctly put, this is very attentive/responsive service (not bothering you every minute though), excellent cuisine with that freshness of ingredients that you know when it hits your tongue, in a nicely decorated space. This is perfect spouse date night or first date fodder for when you want something above the norm in terms of a dining experience, but not pretentious.
Food and service are outstanding. My wife is very picky about her food, but even she very much enjoyed our visit here. Our only criticism is with the noise level. There was a large party and another party of 4 which were loud. This was our first time here, so maybe it's not noisy all the time.
Our first visit after several attempts at weekend reservations. First, the staff was on top of our reservation, called about an hour before to alert us that they were running late due to unexpected rain. We dined late (9 pm) and the place was still full. The waitstaff was reasonable, if not a bit gruff...maybe a long day. Appetizers were exceptional, creative, and delicious. Entrees were spotty..Salamon was phenomenal, steak, a bit tough. Overall a positive experience and a definite return is in order.

the shrimp appetizer was spicy and delicious. The sauce was ripe for dunking bread in to sop up the last drop. The scallops were juicy and complimented with a cauliflower puree. Outstanding!
Laboratorio does not disappoint and tonight was no exception. Fantastic everything including the steak au poivre which is excellent.
