Excellent dans un quartier très vivant le soir
Outstanding. Every. Single. Time. From the greeting at the front door to the knowledge staff, recommendations from the Somm and every dish that was put in front of us, flawless. Always.
Best meal we've ever had.
The restaurant is beautiful with a great vibe, but the food is overpriced and the service unnecessarily formal.
Fabulous meal at L'Abattoir. My friend had the duck pate terrine which he said was excellent. I had the scallops, which were also very good. He had the sable fish which was cooked perfectly and enhanced with a tandoori influenced sauce. A unique treatment of the sable fish which was an outstandingly good compliment to the fish. I had the halibut, also delicious. We both had the Lemon Sllyabub. Fantastic flavour burst with interesting texture. Professional and pleasant, unobtrusive service. They were out of the Le Vieux Pin "Ava" but the Avrill Creek was a worthy stand-in. Terrific meal and a great way to show off Vancouver's culinary scene to my German friend.
Super fun, highly recommended!
Thanks for joining us! We look forward to welcoming you back :) -Team L'Abattoir
Our server was great and the food was delicious as always.

Hi Pierre, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a nice review. We are excited to hear that you thorougly enjoyed your experience the other night, and hope to welcome you back very soon. Best regards, -Team L'Abattoir
Great service, great wine pairings. Good food but didn’t quite meet expectations for the price. We had a nice time overall.
Hi Chad, Thank you for joining us the other night. While we are happy you enjoyed the service and the wine, I'm sorry we fell short on your expectations on the food. We take all feedback to heart in the restaurant and we hope to grow from this. Thank you -Team L'Abattoir
L’Abattoir is a wonderful restaurant and we have missed the privilege of dining there over the past many months. The staff are the best ever, the food is always amazing and so the chef and his crew are doing a truly great job as well. We always feel very comfortable at L’Abattoir and treat it as an extension of our own dining room.
A & D
Hi Alice! Thank you so much for joining us again. The kind words have been shared with the team. We look foward to having you back again and again so we can look after you and your close ones. Best regards, Team L'Abattoir
We were not very impressed. There was hip hop music playing relatively loudly, the servers were dressed very casual, the food was good but it was quite uninteresting. Ingredients didn’t seem to have a purpose (truffle that wasn’t fresh and was overwhelmed by other flavours). I have nothing against a modern vibe but this felt almost lazy. We decided to start small with two appetizers and a main to share, hoping that it would be exceptional and we would order more but we ended up finishing dinner and drinks within the hour so we could go for a walk and grab a pizza on the way home. It’s a mediocre restaurant dressed up to seem fancy. It was still an enjoyable dinner in good company but it was not all it’s cracked up to be.
Disappointing and confusing experience. They need to decide whether they are a pub or a finer dining establishment. Food is inadequately priced, bland, boring and does not make sense. Chef needs to understand that you not only have to choose interesting and premium ingredients but also honour and celebrate their taste. Atmosphere is tiring, music is too loud and does not fit the ambiance, tables are too small, service is mediocre at best. Nothing wowed us. You will be better off spending your big bucks pretty much anywhere else.
If you are in Vancouver looking for an intimate dining experience consisting of great atmosphere, attentive service, and exceptional cuisine, all provided by a small chef run restaurant. Then you can do no better than L'Abattoir.
What a night we had, from the greetings upon arrival to the dessert, we simply had the best exoerie ce in a restaurant for a while. Thanks to the staff
Loved it will be back - great food & wonderful space
Excellent dinner, everything was fantastic especially the heirloom tomato tart and the tandoori style halibut.
Best service I have experienced at a Vancouver restaurant. Server was all the things that make great experience: attentive but not intrusive, friendly and informative but not to the point of distraction. Tables were cleared and wiped down between each course which is something that is so often overlooked. Went for our anniversary and were delighted at the complimentary glass of bubbles to start the evening.
Definitely some of the better fare in Vancouver as well. We had the Gaioler's menu, which was well done though somewhat repetitive, many variations on cream foams and use of citrus / sour which individually was nice but did become repetitive on the palate. Ditto with the duck breast course, which, while nicely done, was a bit conventional (though the custard was interesting though would have preferred a shredded confit to the chopped leg).
Amazing food and impeccable service as always. Love L’Abbatoir!
Excellent menu selection and the service is professional and friendly. Great ambience!
This was our third visit to L'Abbottoir and we would come back again. Each time the menu has offered new and intriguing tastes.
My boyfriend and I are visiting from Ottawa and we had an incredible experience at l'abbatoir. Everything from the food to the service and the atmosphere was amazing. My boyfriend has a severe peanut allergy and we we're pleasantly surprised when our server told us that the chef himself is allergic too, therefore there are no nuts on the menu. We will definitely be back!
Our server was awesome, food was awesome, great experience, would recommend.
Fantastic food, cooked to perfection. Servers were super friendly. Almost too helpful, if that is possible. Meal portions were modest, yet filling. We got the best table in the house too, with a view right over the bar. It was cozy and pleasant, which was a nice surprise because my girlfriend and I were expecting a stuffy fine dinning set up, but it was very relaxed and chic. As one would expect in Gastown. Great experience. Must try the marinated octopus and tandoori sablefish.
Great restaurant and never ceases to meet and exceed expectations.
One of the best meals I’ve had in quite some time. Tandoori Sablefish was perfectly cooked, fragrant herbs and spices (not too spicy), a real treat. Labatoir is always a must anytime I’m in Vancouver.
Side note: the table next to us was clearly having issues. The couple was clearly not having a good night - nothing to do with the restaurant - angry with each other, too much booze or something. Our waiter was doing great to handle them. At one point t someone from the restaurant politely asked if they could arrange transportation for them. They had left their table, but as we left the couple were at the front door putting up quite a stink, asking to speak with management and seemed like they wanted to get the waiter in trouble. I hope you were able to manage the situation without incident. Fot what it’s worth the staff did everything they could and this particular couple was going to be angry regardless - their issue, not yours. So a long way to say 1) this does not affect my view of your restaurant. Staff was great , food was great as always, and I will be back, 2) here’s one opinion that I hope your staff were congratulated for making the best of a bad situation, and the angry customers were sent on their way.
All dishes we had were fabulous and the service was outstanding and engaging! Would definitely recommend it and we will be back, the next time we are in Vancouver.
Steak Diane was amazing. Halibut was tremendous & the lamb was divine. Can’t go wrong here
We took the Gaoler s menu. It was delicious . 5 *
Fully enjoyed our meal 🙌🏼
Well, I had very high hopes based on my previous visit a few years ago where I had an all-world dish of duck prepared three different ways. Things started great with the signature Meat Hook cocktail, which I was delighted is still on the cocktail list. But while my friend loved the quail with smoked and grilled foie gras, and our opening tomato tart was excellent, my main (tandoori style sablefish) was lacklustre and disappointing. Portions were a tad undersized for the price, and while the stupendous (and big-portioned) dessert (mille feuille) saved the day, the value was wanting. Here's to hoping the restaurant ups its game just a little to match the promise of former years.
Food was well prepared and quite tasty. Service was spectacular. I would highly recommend this place.
Hi there, Thank you for recognizing the team for your experience the other night. We are dedicated, and working hard to ensure we keep pushing forward in a creative, high quality direction! Best regards, Team L'Abattoir
I would recommend having one bar code rather than 4 different ones and our phones kept reading the wrong one. Some constructive criticism. But otherwise amazing food and friendly staff. Great experience all around. Definitely plan to come back

We always come back to L’Abbatoir to celebrate special occasion because we know the food is always great! This time we order their Gaoler’s menu and love everything! L’abbatoir has the best bread that they serve at the beginning. Will always come back and highly recommend this restaurant to our friends for French restro!!
Hi Anne, Thank you for the wonderful review, we like the bread as well :). We hope to see you back again soon for another special occasion! Warm regards, Team L'Abattoir
Not a nice greeting at the door. asked quite condescendingly if we had reservations (yeah, and we were on time...) Once seated the servers were nice.
Food was good, especially the first course. Set the bar high. But overall found the tasting menu pretty tame and basic. The duck was tough & the weakest dish.
The wine pairings were nice, some paired very well and others felt thrown in. The a la carte cocktails were disappointing, not balanced. Although the cocktails for the tasting menu were good. Desserts were on point and a strong finish.
Enjoyed the experience overall but can't say I would visit again.

Great food and drink and even greater service. Highly recommended
Thanks for the great review Aaron!
We have celebrated many birthdays and anniversaries at L'Abattoire over the last 8-10 yrs and it used to be our favorite dinning spot in Vancouver but we are rethinking that preference after our latest visit on Aug 14th,21. Sorry to say this but the main reason for that was the food - it was good, which is disappointing since it used to be EPIC!
Service was ok but again not as attentive as it used to be. Lots of new faces on staff, and while very apologetic when they brought us the wrong order, that mistake was fixed quickly but didnt feel quite as good as last time we were there (in pre-pandemic times).
We would maybe recommend it to someone young that is new to fine dining, but that's it.
Hi Diana, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We take all comments into consideration and use the feedback to continue to grow and train members of the kitchen and front of house. Thank you, Team L'Abattoir
Great Experience! Amazing food and service!
Hi there, Thank you for the kind words! We can't wait to host you again soon :) Team L'Abattoir
Went here for a birthday and ordered the special menu. Portions were very small, and food was quite salty. Overall ambiance and service was great though. For the price of the meal i would have expected the food to be impeccably seasoned.
