An absolute gem of a restaurant. What is it about the French Brasserie that is so intoxicating, so comforting, so deeply enjoyable? I am not sure. But I have always found it to be so. La Voile is exactly that--a French Brasserie in the heart of Boston. It would be difficult not to be charmed by this place. It is warm, inviting, unpretentious. I found the food simply and carefully prepared: in a word delicious! The service is warm and also unpretentious. You will feel well cared for. If I lived in Boston, I would eat here often. As it is, during a four day visit, I came here twice. Each time it was wonderful. I already miss it!

Great food and service - excellent wine selections - quite noisy and crowded - classic brasserie feel -we went for our anniversary and it was a great experience but certainly not romantic.

Food was good, not great (entrecote) -- service the same. Biggest problem is tables crowded so closely in the dining area -- no space, no privacy.

The unfortunate visit started with a 25 minute wait while they tried to find our reservation, one which they had confirmed twice, including 3 hours prior to arrival. It took ten minutes after showing them their confirmation phone number and the Open table reservation confirmation to admit we had a reservation. After the unfortunate start, the service was slow, in an only moderately full restaurant. The appetizers of escargot bourguignon and risotto finally arrived. The risotto was very nice, a delicate flavor and nice consistency. The escargot was acceptable although their treatment with rough chopped herbs and garlic was not very pleasing. The filet with truffled potatoes and shallot sauce was very nice. properly cooked and well plated. The Blanquette de veau was abominable. The sauce was pallid, a simple flour roué without the enhancing notes of the marrow melted into the same. The veal had been allowed to sit without liquid while the roué was being prepared, obviously, and as a result was dried out and was incredibly tough instead of the moist delicacy it should be. all in all a dissatisfying experience. To top it off upon leaving and searching for our coats (the ticket we had been given belonged to another party) we found my companions fur and my top coat thrown on the entry floor. Not what I expect in a fine restaurant.

I am an American, married to a French woman, who lived in France for seven years and who has been returning to France regularly for the last thirty years. When I dine at La Voile I feel as though I'm back in France. The food, the ambience, everything is authentically French.

La Voile never disappoints - the pate is flawless, the escargot was perfect and our Dover sole was to die for. Very happy with our dinner for our anniversary as two Francophiles.

In fairness, I have much liked La Voile over the years - authentic Parisian, good food, fair prices. However, for a most recent Saturday lunch for 8, we had to endure surprisingly hauty service, and worst, some who did not order a first course waited 90 minutes (!) to get served, and all in all, it took two hours for lunch (and no dessert or coffee).

Love this place. Authentic southern French food. Great, unhurried service. It was my daughter's birthday the last time I went. I let them know in advance and they brought out a champagne taste for all along with a serving of cake- nice touch. I've gone here for a business dinner and it is just a lovely. Quite enough to hold a conversation. Great value for the Back Bay.

Dining at La Voile is always a treat. I've been here many times and have always had a good experience. Service is attentive and professional, the ambiance is authentically French, and the food is superb. We enjoyed the roast chicken for two, which is one of my favorite items on the menu. The wine list is interesting as well, with some lesser-known varietals at all price ranges. Highly recommend La Voile for a memorable evening.

My meal was scrumptious. I started with the Frisee salad which was both bright with a nice hit of acid from the vinaigrette and unctuous from runny egg....very delicious. I then had the scallops. I am the biggest snob when it come to scallops. I detest rubbery wet scallops that taste like they came from a small cookie cutter taken to a pollack. These were the right amount of sweet and the right balance of chewy
/stringy bite but tender. They tasted and had the texture of a scallop that hasnt been overly doused with phosphates to retain moisture. They were prepared well. All in all a delicious meal that was prepared well in a cozy setting where you could be heard by your fellow diner without having to scream.

I do not recommend the price fixe. It is truly a tasting menu. Portions are tiny. The cod fish was dry. I would have been better off ordering the fish a la carte. It would have been tastier.
A piece of bread in my bread basket had a large bite missing. I could see the teeth marks in the remaining piece.
The restaurant is over rated. Never again.

My friend and I love La Voile as the perfect Newbury Street restaurant for early dinner. We always enjoy the French food, atmosphere, hostess, and wait staff. Particularly like $45 three-course meal, Dover Sole, Escargots, Choc Ganache.

Superb French flair at this gem of a Newbury Street restaurant. Alex our French server was "magnifique" in describing the menu selections. We were celebrating a birthday so he brought us glasses of champagne with our dessert. Wonderful, authentic French cuisine.

Had great authentic French brasserie meal. I had the foie gras appetizer. It was exceptional, followed by the rib eye, which was cooked perfectly - rare, but the ribeye was not quite tender enough. The shallot wine sauce on top was perfect. My wife had the Dover Sole, which was fantastic; she offered me a little piece. We finished with the desserts, apple tart and crème brûlée. The crème brûlée was perfect. The Apple tart was very good, but not a Classic tarte Tatin.

We chose to sit outdoors as the crowded interior was stuffy. Seated outside at a table with a top that was close to falling off the table, we requested if anything could be done. Nothing was ever done despite promises it would be.
Although we are in our late 40s or early 50s, we struggled to read the menus or wine list as there was no ambient light, no candle light, and no lighted menus. We had to read by streetlight from the other side of the street. Again, no help from the staff or waiters.
The wait staff was excruciatingly slow, the worst I have ever seen in my entire life. Getting water and bread was an ordeal. Getting our waiter over to take our order was a struggle. In short, if you want to be a world class restaurant, fire your entire wait staff and start over. The pretentious fake French accents are not fooling anyone. Stop looking stupid and drop them.
The food was average at best. The escargot was chewy and less tasty than any in recent memory, with the sauce drowning out any flavor. The duck was fair and the Dover sole was low to mid range in comparison to others.
In short, I have nothing to say about this restaurant except that it disappointed me at every level. Needless to say, I wont be back and I suggest you keep your $100-125 per person to spend elsewhere.

The food was absolutely fantastic; however, the service was not great. We sat for a long time while waiters assisted tables that were sat AFTER us...but it did get better. The restaurant is extremely loud, so I would recommend sitting outside (weather permitting).
