Love this little French restaurant neighborhood gem. Food is amazing and the wine list extensive. Staff is so wonderful and friendly !
Great authentic French bistro menu with many excellent choices from appetizers through dessert.
Great service, wine list was excellent and the service was very professional. Quality of food was also wonderful. Great Value
Disappointing food, we had the steak and pomme frites with a salad. The steak was unappealing, it was supposed to be seared but was not, cooked to order, but poor quality with much fat and gristle. The service should not fake French accents.
Felt like an overpriced tourist trap, disappointing.
Wonderful Meal with dear friends celebrating a special occasion. Wish Newbury Street could become a “Quiet Zone” to prevent people driving by from blasting their radios. It would make the dining experience more pleasurable.
Awesome french cuisine. I particular enjoy their Le Magret and pan-seared Foie Gras, both were cooked to the perfection.
It always a pleasure to go and eat at La Voile! I enjoy it very much.
We were outside and it was lovely. We had a wonderful time.
Great staff and terrific food unfortunately marred by the morons cruising Newbury with open mufflers and blaring music.
Dinner on a Saturday evening with friends. We sat outdoors under the gazebo which I think it’s the best location. Food is outstanding escargots, heirloom tomatoes, steak, veal, mussels, and fish (sole) meals. I don’t drink red wine but everyone else thought it was great.
Five stars based on the food. The ambience as also great but lost a star because of the intermittent street noise of motorcycles and revving cars driving by. Maybe quieter on a weekdays or lunch time.
Service and food was top notch! Highly recommended.
So happy we decided to dine here.
Staff, ambiance, food
Great experience. A few new servers so we had a little trouble getting started but everyone was so kind and the food was truly excellent. Haven’t had such well-seasoned food in Boston in a long time.
The restaurant should give people time to eat, relax, catch up socially and enjoy their meal. La Voile seems like a place where guests should be able to relax and not feel as though they need to Sprint through the meal to make the table available for the next guest.
The food is outstanding. The wine list is good (the wines I wanted were out of stock). The service, however, was non-existent. We saw our server 4 times all night (greeting, order, cleared, drop the bill). Dropped $800 on dinner for two. With so many French dining options in the city, I probably won’t be going back..
Always a treat to dine @ La Voile. Wonderful drinks. Simple fare done terrifically well, and a restaurant staff that is professional, yet friendly make this one of my favorite restaurants in town.
Went for an anniversary and the restaurant is really cute! Waitstaff was awesome, helped correct our shaky table which definitely would’ve been annoying. They gave us champagne on the house, which was totally unnecessary and very thoughtful. Food was great, really enjoyed the charcuterie board. Would recommend the señor Napoleon, a strong but flavored cocktail. Super romantic and nice, we sat outside under soft string lighting.
I've seen a few negative reviews and I don't get it. Service was excellent. Entire waitstaff treated my family like gold, made very good menu suggestions. Meat (duck and tenderloin beef) was cooked perfectly - two were a perfect medium the other a perfect medium well. Wine (Bordeaux - Pomerol appellation) was an excellent value. Ambience is a perfect French bistro. It took slightly long for us to get the bill but only because the restaurant started filling all at once. Every business in Sept. 2021 is hurting to find employees. Given the economy, this staff knocked it out of the park. I've worked in several restaurants and I'm a touch critic.
Transported to Southern France without all the travel or Covid tests (We are double vaccinated though!!). We sat outside with greenery and flowers around us. So pleasant and so French. I can see ourselves eating outside there even when 45 degrees plus. Last winter taught me that I can survive outside at a restaurant with snow falling in my wine, as long as I have a cushion for the butt to separate from cold metal seats (sometimes I brought my own), heat lamp nearby and laughter with my friends or hubby. Oh the waiters! the food! Love that there is not loud music. Can talk, drink and eat. Such a great ambiance. Wow, I wish I did not tell you all this, so I can still get a reservation!
Was here for my mom's birthday. There were 5 of us -- got a lot of food and drinks. Everything was excellent. Waiter was great. I had the french onion soup (which was amazing!!)
Perfect as always.
The essence of French Dining
A fine place with great priced wine choices .. knowledgeable staff
I always have a great time when I go there. Alex is the best and the people who work with him as well. All the best.
The food and drinks never disappoints!
We looked forward to ilium lunch at La Voile for quite awhile as part of our return from Iceland. Hoping for a taste of pan Seared food gras, we cut into the dish to find essentially raw duck liver that was so gross even my sister who eats pretty much anything refused it. We tried to eat the edges but it failed. Surprisingly this dish had a scoop of applesauce plopped on the plate and a small green salad, which was underwhelming.
The beet salad was 5-6 slices of beet with sprinkled goat cheese- again so basic and Uninventive and uninspiring.
The mussels in saffron sauce was “okay” - not great and we were surprised the options were curry or saffron sauce rather than white wine sauce. Fries were over cooked.
Our server was great.
The champagne was good. The Malbec was good.
It was disappointing the quality and presentation of the food as La Voile is touted as one of the best in Boston and we had looked forward to a great meal.
Excellent food, ambiance and service!
Awful service. Long time for a waiter to show, then appetizers came out in a flash…before our drinks or bread. We asked them to pace a bit better. Well, that was a mistake - then waited almost 1.5 hours for the entree. Whole ordeal was almost 3h.
Delicious! My waiter was wonderful. I was not rushed and enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you
The smokers standing next to the outdoor dining tables were not conducive to enjoying the meal.
The food was not hot
The onion soup was to thick with cheese and not hot
I was disappointed with the food and I eat here frequently.
Always a winner place - great terrasse and French food. Our waiter was nice and caring and the food is really good.
first time here and had a wonderful experience - from start to finish it was delightful - I live in Madison, WI and will make sure to visit again the next time I am in Boston - merci beaucoup!
Wonderful experience at the start of my month of Bday celebrations
Our anniversary compelled us to return to La Voile for a special dinner. Service was good, several staff attended our table. Beet salad with goat cheese and smoked salmon appetizers were enjoyable. My Salmon entree was tasty. Wines are always superb. As the chocolate fondant dessert was not available, we ordered classic crème brûlée which was delicious.
Visited twice this past week (Sept 2021). First time just for dessert and a glass of wine. They didn’t put in one of two dessert orders and substituted a random dessert wine for a Sauternes without asking. Chalked that up to late night issues with staffing or whatever. Then went for lunch. 30 minutes after ordering the salads showed up. 90 minutes in had to cancel the rest - nothing else ever showed up. Had no intention of making lunch an all day affair. I get that COVID has had an impact on staffing but seriously guys get it together. You used to be a fun place to visit. Now it’s just a place to get frustrated and p’d off.
Solid French bistro food. Return one year after initial visit. Will keep coming back!

Incredible atmosphere, incredible food, incredible service
Lovely evening outside by the street. Menu was limited and prices are very high. Ambiance was exceptional- we felt like we were in a French Cafe.Wait staff was ok given number of tables she had to serve. Overall a pleasant experience.
Ie. love introducing friends to this wonderful restaurant.. feel like we had a trip to France..
A must experience especially if your a French food fanatic there’s nothing better with an ambience that will bring any lover of this beautiful cuisine back with a wine list to savour
