La Voile Brookline
Dinner at La Voile is and was always a pleasure. This time however the service was less than acceptable. My dining partner's plate was whisked away the minute she was finished while I was still eating, twice. The quality of my steak was less than acceptable. Too much grizzle, too hard to chew. Still, those things happen. Dinner at La Voile has always been a pleasurable experience.
Totally underwhelmed with the quality of service and ambience. Certainly not worth what we spent for the meal.
We have had a number of very nice meals at La Voile. Unfortunately, with the exception of the service, last night was not one of them While the salad and french onion soup were great, my wife's salmon was overcooked. The flavor of my steak was good, but it had fibers running through it that made it extremely difficult to cut and to chew. Dessert also left something to be desired.
I've had too many good experiences at La Voile to give up on it yet. But if it happens again, it will be off the list.
Great melon soup and predictably delicious food.
A real genuine treat! Everything was great!
The entrees were excellent; the service outstanding; and the wine selection, a plethora of riches.
Great food and service, definitely going back!
Upstairs is much quieter but we requested upstairs due to having one of the party who was blind
Very much enjoyed experience and will definitely return
Food was very good but came cold.
Lovely atmosphere, gracious service, delicious food beautifully presented, pleasant acoustics permit conversation. A positive experience difficult to replicate.
Excellent creative food, excellent service, nice atmosphere that is conducive to conversation and to enjoying your friends.
We had a quiet intimate dinner with delicious food, attentive but not intrusive service.
Fantastic service, food, ambiance. Great place for a date. Would recommend and visit again!
Nice - a bit quick... and expensive
Excellent food in a quiet setting, good service. Perfect for a special occasion. The Ile Flottante dessert was totally fabulous, as was the whole fish , the rib eye, and the foie gras. The flavors were finely tuned, very tasty. It's clear the chef knows what s/he is doing which is what I remembered from a trip to the Newbery Street La Voile. We had a lovely evening. Thank you.
This Brookline gem is even a preferred destination for out-of-towners!
The food was tasty and well prepared but nothing I couldn't do at home for a writer the cost. There was just nothing special about it.
Always a lovely evening here. We can hear each other talk. Service is attentive (although this time our appetizers came before the cocktails we ordered). We had the fois gras terrine and it was yummy. My scallops were great too. My wife had the oysters and really liked the sauce. And, I always look forward to the profiteroles. But, there's a molten chocolate cake I wish I could have too (perhaps we have to come with friends and share both). never disappointed at La Voile.
Food was excellent. We went there for a birthday lunch and everything tasted wonderful. Service was a bit spotty, but the waitress was in training. The head waiter apologized and was terrific. Would definitely return and recommend. Escargot and steak frites were terrific.
The atmosphere was fine. Ethan and Emily were quite terrific - they helped us every step of the way but also took care of everyone else and gave us privacy. The food was really exceptional. This was our first visit to LaVoile Brookline - it will not be our last! My husband said 'where have I been for 70 years!!!!!!~! Thank you one and all!
Can’t say enough about the wonderful service we received when I took an old friend there to celebrate her birthday. They brought us complementary rose wine and could not have been nicer. We loved the crusty French bread baked halfway in Canada, then finished in Brookline. We each enjoyed the cod and the dessert was divine.
La Voile has a neighborhood feel and lovely Parisienne food. My mushroom soup was excellent, my husband loved his rack of lamb....and the tarte tatin was fantastic. The French bread was crusty and fragrant. Can't wait to go back! This is a real gem!
A friend and family favorite for special and - well - even not so special occasions!
Birthday party for my son and his mom: 6 persons : Excellent food and very special wines
Our dinner at La Voile was absolutely wonderful! The warm foie gras was superb, as was the scallops and cod dishes. We so enjoyed our evening there, and recommend La Voile for a delightful dining experience in Washington Square.
Great food, well prepared and presented. Attentive service.
We were a large group for brunch coming to celebrate graduation. The food was excellent and while the service was good, they just didn't quite seem to have it together. The wait staff didn't all seem like they knew what they were doing and we weren't offered/asked if we wanted more drinks, dessert menus, etc. just the typical stuff. They weren't rude or totally lax, but they just didn't all seem to know what was going on. That said, we were a loud big group so it could have been a little overwhelming. The food was EXCELLENT and the price point was great. We had some picky eaters and everyone was charmed and stuffed by the menu! Thank you for helping us celebrate!
My first time there. Excellent food with an expansive bistro menu. Very nice setting - lively but still comfortable for conversation. Will definitely return. Only slight off note was that service was a little sluggish, although very proper and professional.
Food and service very good. Many good choices. Atmosphere early very pleasant, gets a bit noisy later.
Perfectly adequate local authentic French restaurant. I would happily return
Great food. Great wine selection. Cozy atmosphere right in Washington square.
Took friends out for a celebratory lunch on a rainy Sunday, and we were one of two tables. Good service, delicious food, excellent price to quality ratio (very large portions for a French restaurant!). Parking was tough.
We had a work dinner for seven people with very different tastes -- beer fans, wine fans, apple juice fans, carnivores, pescatarians, foodies, and picky eaters. Everything was terrific; all of us left happy (no small feat). The service was also exceptionally friendly and attentive, from the host at the door to the several staff members keeping an eye on our table. Great job, La Voile! We'll be back.
Lovely little spot for a nice dinner in Brookline. Service was great, wines were nicely priced with good options. The prix fixe dinner menu was definitely a good buy. For the three of us dining, none of us felt that our entrees were anything better than good. Fish was a little dry, steak was a little fatty and the frites weren't particularly hot, and the roast chicken (which came highly recommended) was not particularly moist or flavorful. Bread was great, soups and salads were delicious, and the dessert was perfect. So, just need to navigate the main courses a little carefully.
Quite a disappointing dinner experience. Had an ok onion soup, and we both ordered duck confit that were not confit but perhaps roasted instead of braised in duck fat...the gratin Dauphinois was pathetic as were the soggy, dark brown French fries...but the foie gras terrine was excellent as was the service and wine. Decor sad and drab.
We really loved LaVoile. The ambience is perfect and the food was magical. The entrecôte and fries was classic and the risotto was extraordinary. We will happily return.
Wonderful staff and an amazing flavor palate.
Maybe I should have given them 5 stars instead of 4, because we had a very nice evening and they were generous in fixing a mistake. We ordered both foie gras offerings as an appetizer for the table to share. It never came. When our dinners arrived, we said to skip the foie gras. We were disappointed because a French restaurant is where to go to get that! The dinners were excellent, the staff talented at deboning the fish, and they were attentive. We ordered one dessert for the table, and they added a tasting dessert plate for the table to share as well. It was on the house, a classy thing to do. We will definitely return.
Great food authentically French and reasonably priced. Portions are generally large except for the fois gras.
The waiter was a bit obtuse but well intentioned.
This is not so much a review as a few comments and recommendations. I really like the food, the ambience, and the service at La Voile (also the wine list, which is excellent and affordable whether you order by the bottle or the glass), but I wish the menu were a bit more extensive or, short of that, more varied. I really miss the red snapper entree. It was superb - better than anything I could make at home and something I could highly recommend to others. One idea might be to send out notices to customers on your mailing list announcing a new dish or two that has been added to the menu. That would definitely appeal to people like me who really appreciate La Voile and are looking for more reasons to dine there.
