About La Vigna Restaurant & Bar
Located on Metropolitan Avenue in Forest Hills, an upcoming Restaurant row is La Vigna Restaurant featuring Chef/Owner Giuseppe Vitale’s masterful interpretation of Italian cuisine. With the walls painted in the warm golden tones of an Italian villa and huge wood framed mirrors which expand the intimate space, it is perfect for smaller dinner parties. La Vigna also features a beautiful wooden bar with an excellent selection of Italian and Californian wines.
Chef Vitale, born in Naples, was a chef for Lidia Bastianich for many years, learning the mastery of her techniques at Felidia, Becco and her original location in Forest Hills, Bona Via. La Vigna Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
this was a birthday lunch, but it happened to fall on Valentines Day. We thought they would have the price fixed lunch noted on the web site. unfortunately not. the everyday price fixed lunch menu was more interesting and much less expensive than Valentine's Day offer. for example, the every day had filet of sole. Valentines day. had salmon but it was farmed and at a price which exceeded its quality. but the service and people were very nice. we will try again.
La Vigna may be a victim of it's own success--it's become too popular (and thus overcrowded). Our main course seemed to have gotten lost--others who came in after us were finishing theirs when we started complaining. When the food finally came out, it seemed hastily prepared. The manager apologized and said he would make it up to me, but did nothing. They probably need to take less reservations.
I was disappointed. We went there for my mom's 93rd birthday. I asked for something special for her dessert. One waiter brought over the dessert with a candle - they did not sing Happy Birthday. About 20 minutes later someone else in the restaurant also had a birthday and all the waiters went to their table and sang Happy Birthday. Not a good way to treat customers - favoring one over another. Also, the service was slow. Pricey for our neighborhood. Would not go back again.
Took my friend for her 60th birthday. Like the last time, the food was superb and delicious. Three of us ordered the specials (appetizer and entrée) which were fantastic. Not a morsel was left on our plates. This was only my second time, but I have told many people to check LaVigna out because it's a wonderful place to dine. Thank you again for making my friend's birthday special (your staff sang to her) and for another outrageously delicious meal. Until the next time...
The first time I was here I enjoyed a great, moist chicken paillard which they serve topped with arugula salad. Lovely. The other times were in the afternoon, shared with a friend: zabaglione, coffee and Benedictine. Lovely.
This time, an evening with a friend. What was enjoyed: the leisurely pace ( a little slow for her but we had a lot to catch up on) and the relatively quiet and nice ambiance. What was less enjoyed: a salad 'ala Vigna' - so chopped up, it did a severe disservice to the ingredients - a chicken paillard which was so overcooked it was leather-like; they did not have the appetizers we originally wanted (on their menu) - tho their baked clams were very good - nor did they have the chocolate cake (ala Vigna). How does one run out of chocolate cake??
My friend does not wish to return, but I would - understanding the limitations and with a certain trepidation. I just like the feel of the place - but the next time that paillard comes up dry as bone, I'll return it vs chewing through it.
This restaurant is a gem hidden away in Queens. We're always looking for good restaurants in Queens near relatives, and this restaurant never disappoints. The food is delicious, the menu creative, and the wine list stands up to any Manhattan restaurant's. I highly recommend La Vigna.
