La Verona Ratings and Reviews
Some what of a disappointment. Food was just OK but nothing special. Being in the mushroom capital of the country, we expected the mushroom soup to be extraordinary but instead was watery and bland. The Caesar salad was also bland. Our veal entrees were tasty and reasonably priced. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The wines by the glass offerings were quite limited and unimaginative. We sat in the bar area which was extremely loud due to several patrons who had clearly had a "few too many"o
We had an enjoyable dinner at La Verona. The service was impeccable. Rachel did a great job taking care of us. The meals were plentiful and priced well. My husband ordered the special for the night which was lobster ravioli. They were a little fishy tasting. Otherwise, we enjoyed this very much.
From the menu I expected the duck entree to be like a duck a l'orange, but then remembering when I got there that this was Italian and not French, I was delighted in the brown gravy with a hint of orange and the vegetable risotto accompaniment. The wine was perfect and our waitress, Poi, was a delight. My friends had the veal parm and veal marsala and were also happy with their choices.
Four friends shared a meal together before attending a play at Longwood Gardens. This was our first visit to the restaurant. We each had a different entree and each of us enjoyed their meal. The bread/rolls were delicious. The restaurant was very quiet, but then we arrived early for dinner. This gave us time to enjoy the meal, and each other's company before Longwood.
This restaurant gets so many write ups, yet doesn't compare to those that DO earn your dining experience. We were there early 5pm, the actual owner walked by our table of 2, 4 times and didn't even have the decency to stop and say hello or ask how things were. Restaurant was very slow at this time, with few people...service was even slower. Almost like they had to go someplace and get the meal and bring it back. Very sad! We will not go back. Restaurant needs a major update and overhaul. Just raking in your money.
Parking is convenient (municipal lost across street, free after 5 pm and weekends). Table ready as reserved. Service prompt, friendly, and professional (good advice on menu). Very flexible on modifying standard menu options. Fairly traditional Northern Italian menu items with good sauces and sides. Very friendly. Good happy hour M-F, 4-6; live music Thur (after 8pm), Fri and Sat (after 9 pm).
La Verona is a great italian restaurant. It was the perfect start to our evening. From the restaurant, we were heading to Longwood Gardens. This was our first visit to La Verona. We chose this restaurant based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. I attended with my boyfriend, brother and sister-in-law. We are all "foodies". From the moment we entered La Verona until our departure, the staff treated us like family (and being italian ourselves, loved that!) The ambiance, service, appetizers, cocktails, entrees and desserts were all excellent. So many delicious choices on the menu, hard to choose. We plan on returning again and again to try more dishes on the menu! Throughout the evening, all of us kept talking about how wonderful La Verona was. One of the best italian restaurants all of us had ever been to, if not the best!
We didn't realize it was third Thursday, when the street is closed and all the restaurants add extra tables outside. We were seated inside, where it was much quieter, which was what we wanted. Even though the restaurant was busy, our waitress was efficient and friendly. We enjoyed the food, although my wife's veal Parmesan was a little burnt around the edges. The tiramisu was especially delicious. We would like to return on a day when things are a little less hectic.
The service was excellent and the food varied from good to excellent. The bruschetta was excellent. The Caesar salad was dry but additional dressing was provided immediately on request, after which it was very good. The tortellini was very good. The veal saltimbocca was good but disappointing. It skimped on the prosciutto and cheese and had no fresh sage, only inconsistent sprinklings of dried sage in a few spots. I've had much better elsewhere.
Food was good. Better than the previous owners. Had the special melon and prosciutto and melon app. Prosciutto was sooooo tender! Delish. I had the crab cake entree. The crab cake was okay. I've had better but it wasn't bad. Could taste filler but lots of lump and good portion size. The side of basil risotto was to die for. Perfectly al dente and not too thick. Hubby had the fish special and the red sauce was terrific! Wine was good too! Go if your in the mood for Italian! Too bad new ownership didn't change interior decor. While the food was a definite change the interior is the same. Go for the food! Sit outside if is not too hot!
Our party of four came for dinner before a show at Longwood Gardens. We were taken immediately however we're seated near the kitchen doors, don't have any idea why since there were loads of tables and it was only 6:15. The food was average, nothing innovative. I was expecting better based on the reviews. Would try one more time.
Although we showed up 15 minutes early for our reservation, we were pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately! However, our table wasn't set, and we waited approximately 10 minutes for our server to appear. After that, we waited another 10-15 minutes for our drinks, and to place our food order. Of the five at our table, there were no complaints about thefood! Everything was delicious, especially the Burrata and Artichoke apps! The website relays a "Business Casual" atmosohere...not so. Patrons were in everything from ripped jeans and t-shirts, to oxford shirts and sport jackets.
Our experience wasn't bad - but it wasn't really good either. It's obviously a popular place and was close to full at 7:00 on a Saturday. Our server was very busy, friendly but didn't spend 10 seconds talking to us. The food was good but didn't stand out in my mind, and frankly seemed a little pricey especially given the presentation and ambience. My wife wondered out loud if Lemons and Capers wasn't a better value. I would have to agree. I won't be going back.
We dine at La Verona on a fairly regular basis, when we're tired and don't want to cook or when we plan ahead for a weekend dinner either just the two of us or with friends. The service is always friendly, the food always good. Reasonable prices, large portions, great value.
Horrible service. Sat for 35 minute before water arrived. I was served an entree before 3 of 4 in our party had received their appetizers. Could go on and on with examples of "bad" during this meal. Worse (for the owner) is that the two tables next to us approached us after their meals to thank us for having called the manager out, sharing their equally bad experience with us -- laughing, as we were because the experience was so bad that it was almost impossible to be angry. Rather - we were looking for cameras to see if we were being punked.
I took my friend here for lunch to celebrate her birthday. It was on Friday afternoon and a perfect day to sit outside in Kennett Square. We had a long leisurely lunch and never felt rushed.
The food was amazing. Great flavors and creative combinations. We had many choices from an extensive wine list. A good range of brands and price points.
Our darling server Morgan was terrific.
I highly recommend La Verona. We will be back.
